In other news, the Mavericks have also expressed exploratory interest in several free agent forwards, including Kelly Oubre Jr. and Derrick Jones Jr., league sources told HoopsHype. ? via Michael Scotto @ HoopsHype

Wait, is he sending Siakam back on the return trip?
seriously though, where was the poor guy sitting? hopefully somewhere with lots of leg room.

First row in 1st class, so he had a little bit of leg room. When he stood up though he didn?t have a ton of clearance from the roof, but he could stand up without hitting his head. Seemed to be by himself.

Like Oubre if they jettison Tim.

@newlyalex
?
2h
some interesting Derrick Jones Jr stats from last season:
-shot 36.7% on corner 3s last year
-was in the 100th percentile in defensive versatility
-guarded Cs and PFs 46.1% of the time he was on the court
-had a TS% of 62.9%
-generated 1.36 PPP on P&Rs as the roll man (100%tile)

Panda Hank vid up on Richaun Holmes Highlights
naturally it's a highlight vid, but the available tools look good - surprisingly good handles - hook shot, floater/push shot, dunks and finishes with authority. seems to move his feet well on defense to stay with guys driving on him and good recovery to be a weakside shot blocker.
hope he gets back to where he was a couple years ago

Stein says we are trying to get Capela in a 3 way Siakam deal. Nice to hear it from the horse's mouth.

Are there really people that haven't seen enough Richaun Holmes to know what he's done and capable of? His runner/push shot rivals some top guards.

yeah haven't really watched him much - i know many were banging the drum to get him in past but since there was never any traction on that, i didn't bother looking into it. it was the kings lol
but yeah that little push shot has some nice touch - not an easy shot
he's got a little baby hook thing too which is nice if it hits but looks more like a prayer to me lol. hope he doesn't try for that too much.
But some of those hard drives because you have to respect him rising up and dunking on your head, he's able to slow down and still finish. nice to have that in his bag...

The main optimism for Holmes is his offensive rebounding. I'm not really hoping that we are gonna get that 14/8 player again, but he would have to be completely awful not to be better than Powell.
And if we get Capela, then it's all gravy from the rest of the center rotation anyway.

Two years ago I was all over the thought process of the mavs Hopefully trading for Holmes
But the mere fact that they continue to love their locker room guys Powell and kleber has lowered my expectations of any new center coming here and supplanting either of those guys because of the loyalty they get.
I just think no matter what the mavs are going to live and die with Powell and kleber at the end of the day.

This is just my uninformed gut opinion, but I'm betting if we trade for Capela that Kleber, not THJ, is on the way out.

This is so encouraging to know. Not necessarily because I think it will happen- I'm not getting my hopes up too much simply because I don't think the Raptors are that eager to trade Siakam. But it's so encouraging to know that the Mavs FO is thinking exactly the way we and is at least trying to make the exact right moves.

At their best, Holmes is at least 2 tiers better than DP. It would be a total flop if he isn't better. Like career done level flop.
There's a real good chance he's going to revive his career here.

Only catch is there seem to be more than few suitors for him. So the deal only makes sense if Pascal goes to Atlanta.
But yeah, I'm sure we're waiting for Dame, Harden, or Siakam to move to jump in on something to get us a big.
And I suppose if that fails, then try to get Drummond from the Bulls.

Day dreaming about a
Luka
Kyrie
Green
Grant
Capela
Starting 5?. Like once they mesh that has to be one of the most complete lineups in the league right?!

Cam Whitmore looks like the real deal
I wanted Hendricks at 10 but Utah ruined that
When Whitmore was dropping I thought for sure the mavs would scoop him him big physical wing player ready to contribute day 1

I like what I saw from Prosper. I think once he gets adjusted to NBA and improves his 3, the Mavs won't miss not taking or landing any of Whitmore, Walker or Hendricks.
They should have gotten TJD once he started dropping past 45. What kind of owner claims he is such an IU person not know what kind of person and player TJD matured into. As an owner, he should mandated that GM make the move to acquire a pick around 45-50.

The Lakers paid $3 million dollars to move up just a few spots in the 2nd round. When the draft is actually going on the picks are getting expensive. Afterwards they flow easily it seems though

I'm OK with Oubre but he is so inefficient. I'd rather go cheap route and think the Mavs are fine to start season. Adjust once you see how things are working. What if Holmes is working out and Lively proves he can play consistent rotation minutes even if only 15 per game and you still have Maxi. Hate to see them make some crazy deal for Capela in that scenario unless Holmes is on way out..
Guys like Bazley or Langford still have potential to become solid rotation players. They just haven't landed in right scenario. Langford is probably better defender than Oubre but numerous injuries have stunted his offensive development. Bazley really fits the profile of a combo forward just like prosper. Having 2 athletic players pushing each other is not a bad thing.

Oubre is awful.
If you hated Wood, Oubre is just Wood 2.0
Yeah Oubre can score and find his own points, but his defense is awful and often gets lost in defensive schemes like Wood. He?s not a team player like Wood and that seems minor but it wrecks a locker room and we saw that last year after having a tight locker room the year before.
Can he change? Sure. Anything is possible, but there has been no indication that he even wants to be anything more than a guy who gets his own stats.

Keith Smith
@KeithSmithNBA
I talked to two different teams this morning and both independently mentioned that they are monitoring the Thunder and what happens with the roster.
One exec told me "Some good players are going to get cut from OKC and we all need to be ready to jump when that happens."

Unfortunately I my instinct says we're probably done for this offseason. We might make another minimum signing or something, but I don't see a big trade for a Capela or someone else. It just seems to rely on too many variables that are outside of the Mavericks control, and it seems clear nobody is interested in THJ. So unless we're trading some combination of Green, Hardy or 2027 FRP, (which I hope we don't) it looks like we're locked in. I hope I'm wrong.

I don't think anything will happen until Dame and Harden are moved.
And I still hold some hope until PJ Washington is resolved. Think that if that drags out that you might be able to jump in with THJ/2 seconds to get him. Would be tricky, but it's not impossible.
While obviously THJ hasn't garnered much interest, his contract is super cap friendly. Remember he is owed 16 million in his last season as the contract is descending. You can't tell me that's immovable.

No reason to jump the gun if nothing is there at the moment. I'm fine rolling into the year with what we have and making a move in-season/at the deadline to shore up any inefficiencies. Hopefully Green and Hardy make it to where it's even harder to think about trading either, then the 2027 FRP becomes more palatable to deal.

Is this the current roster?
Luka
Kyrie
Grant Williams
Josh Green
Richuan Holmes
Seth Curry
Jaden Hardy
Tim Hardaway
Dwight Powell
Maxi Kleber
Dante Exum
Dereck Lively II
OMax
Javale McGee
Two Way Contracts - Miles Jr. and maybe Lawson (?)
Exhibit 10 - Taz Moore.
And I believe that Jelly Walker has an undisclosed 1 year contract
If so, then maybe they have one roster spot open (unless that is Walker)

I wonder if a Maxi for PJ trade would interest them more. Give them a veteran guy on a great contract.

The biggest issue with him is the SnT. If he gets 17mill, it looks like THJ for Washington would work, but BYC means that he'd count at around 8-9mill for contract purposes.
If he gets 20-22 mill, he's overpaid, but Kleber or Holmes for Washington works straight up
If he gets around 18 mill like he wants, he'd count for 9mill with BYC and that would be REALLY hard to match for us. McGee/Green? McGee/Hardy? That's about all we can offer until Dec 15th when we can also trade Curry and Exum.
Definitely feels like Hornets can't ask for much, but I think McGee/Hardy or McGee/Green would be overpaying for talent and giving him 20-22mill a year would be overpaying in money for a guy who will play the 3/4 with Green/THJ/OMax/Williams

Mavs should look into Dosunmu. Chicago wants Wood but can probably only offer 1 year deal. Maybe they want him for 3. What if the Mavs wind up moving Green or Hardy for frontcourt help.

I like the kid but not entirely sure why we?d do it
He?s likely to get the MLE via sign and trade (rumors are Raptors) and we?ve used most of ours so it?d likely to have to be SNT. That means probably trading Kleber and a pick or McGee and Green. Bulls know we can?t do the MLE and can match any offer so they?d likely be asking for positive assets like young guys and picks. We?d also have to outbid Toronto if rumors are true.
I?m not sure I?d pay assets to get the pleasure of paying a backup 12mill a year. He fits a lot better in Toronto where he?s likely be given a starting position rather than 8-15 min playing spot minutes behind Luka, Kyrie, Hardy, Curry, etc

Definitely not letting go of Hardy, he has too much potential. Green is at the proving stage but I'm not letting go of him either unless it's in a package for a clear upgrade at center.
Theres a good chance Holmes surprises here. I'm fine with starting our season as is, but we will have to make a move IF DP ends up being our key center. Fvck that noise.

Are time machines a thing yet? We got our Tyson Chandler. Just need to age him up. Now we need our prime Marion to dominate the boards.
