@SpearsNBAYahoo: The Bulls are expected to trade center Greg Smith to Mavericks as early as Monday to help clear salary, sources said.
@espn_macmahon: Greg Smith’s career per-36-minute averages: 13.3 points, 10.4 rebounds, 1.3 blocks, .623 FG%
@BallinWithBryan: Smith is on the books for $948,163 per Shamsports.
@espn_macmahon: Greg Smith will fill DeJuan Blair's role as low-priced banger off bench. Mavs also likely to re-sign Sarge James
@espn_macmahon: Mavs moving on from DeJuan Blair is sign he made it clear he wasn't coming back for the minimum. Can get more after quality year in Dallas.

Smith seems like a pretty nice little pickup, IMO.

If he stays healthy he has a high ceiling for a minimum backup banger. FO cant do anything wrong with such a trade

Do the Mavs have to wait for the Parsons deadline to sign vet minimum guys?

Just curious if anyone has heard about any other teams interested in Marion.
Wonder what his going rate or asking price is.

I don't get the Greg Smith add. Maybe just a player to stash on the D league until he gets better. It's tough to see Blair go. I wanted him back.

It seems to me like Blair wanted more money than minimum. Dallas couldn't or didn't want to pony up. We filled Blair with a similiar Greg Smith. Hopefully he can show the heart and extra gear Blair showed at times.

Yes. Based on my numbers, I think they can add one more under the cap right now (be it Greg Smith or someone else). But it's so close I could easily be wrong.
But to go over the cap using the veteran minimum exception, they have to wait until the Parsons deal actually executes (or doesn't).

Chicago Bulls Greg Smith is a 23 year old 6'10 F/C who averaged 13.6 PPG, 10.4 RPG, 62.0% FG per 36 minutes
Looks like a pretty good upgrade and some youth at Center, 16.2 PER a year ago, and he's only 23!

@ESPNSteinLine: ESPN has learned that Pierce will sign a two-year deal with the Wizards at the mid-level exception with a player option entering Year 2

Eh. I guess he's done chasing titles and is looking to ride off into the sunset with a paycheck.

Out of the East I would say they have one of the better teams for sure. Could see them playing in the ECF this year.

True, but you can have a .450 winning percentage and be considered a good team in the East.

Yes, but only if they have more than 1 year in the league.
We have x number of salary holds on our cap space equal to the number of players we have on our roster below 12. The holds are equal to minimum salary of rookie players (about 507k)

Lots of news today. I'll have to look up some stuff on Smith. The Ariza and Pierce signings…could the media have been any more off in their characterization of what the going prices on these guys would be? I was hoping Ariza would ultimately cost something closer to 9 than 11, for example, but didn't remotely anticipate him going off the market that quickly for a million less than the low end of his reported asking price. Possibly good news for Deng's ultimate asking price, I suppose.

Roster progress report
Chandler/Wright/Smith
Dirk/???
Crowder
Ellis/???
Harris/Felton/Mekel
-------------
Inactive: Ledo
10 of 15 players signed. Ledo probably in the D-league, which means room for 3 more active, 2 more inactive.

Man... I really hope Houston matches on Parsons and we end up with Stephenson for like $9M/year and bring back Marion and sign Mo Williams.

Hope we beat out the Rockets for Birdman. He is 36 and looking for a payday, Rockets seem to have the edge on us there. Love the playoff experience he brings.

Works for me Stephenson, Al-farouq Aminu and Mo. Al-Farouq is taller than Marion, better rebounder, better passer, similar offensive skills at this point, but Marion is on his way down at 36 and Aminu is on his way up at 23.

So guys where are we going on from now?
Is Greg Smith done deal? I really like Blair, his energy and toughness (is it definitely that he's not coming back?)
And are there any rumors about Marion? Is he coming back this year? What amount of money is he looking for?
Personally I do not like that money we are giving Parsons, but it is what it is. The team should be better than last year, but how much better? 7th seed?
And what do you think about those guys in SL? Ledo showed some offensive skills, and I really like Mekel, that guy must have some minutes next season. Bernard James?

Everytime I saw Greg Smith play last season he was either dunking on someone or sending someone's shot away. He seems like a high-energy, athletic guy.
