I also notice a lot of guys underrating Butler here. His long range J is suspect but another year and a traning camp with the Mavs? Shouldn't we expect for him to be more better? Consistent? I don't know. But he should definately have a better year this year than he did last. That's why i'm against all of these trade deadline deals. It takes awhile for players to actually get comfortable in their new teams system. Butler at times looked as if he was trying to fit in but not step on anyones toes.

i agree Butler will be better for sure. so maybe we can snag Craig Smith or Admundson w/ the BAE? they can both probably get a little more right?

Marion had a full camp and couldn't get many shots. I think we need to rely less on Dirk and get others better looks, rather than when Dirk is tripled. The thing I loved about Boston was while Allen was circling around screens, Rondo and Pierce were working a 2 man game. You create many more options than your primary if the ball is spread.

Hey, maybe defense will become our calling card. Roddy embraces the 2 guard role, Marion-Jet-Chandler comprise the 6th man role......

I think we used the BAE on Mahinimi but we can split the MLE on those two if we want, which I would not mind (probably not the full MLE but 2-2.5M per?).
We have only one 4 on the roster and both those guys bring inside games. Smith is more offensive-oriented, almost like a Baby Baby Davis, and Amundson is more defensive and scrappy, kind of like Haslem actually. Both are 27. 3 years/7 millie each?
Get er donnnnne!

Either would be nice. Smith brings the low block action to offset Chandler's offensive short comings.

Donnie said that we didn't use the BAE on Mahinmi, and we still have it available.

Sefko says Mahinmi's deal is "apparently" for the vet minimum.

I stand doubly corrected. BAE it up then..
I'd still like both for depth if nothing else.

Is it still a 2 year deal? So we got some coinage to toss around MLE and BAE are both available.

We should grab TMac with the BAE.

His upside is crazy but odds are unlikely.
His downside is just the BAE. Heck even if you split the MLE with him and Shaq you haven't really lost anything if they don't pan out.

I'd love Matt Barnes. Tough gritty player who can play the 2 and the 3. He always seems to be on winning teams, he's just a great glue guy to have.
Although I wonder if having both he and Stevenson is a bit of overkill as they are similar players.

I know the odds are that he will re-sign with the Lakers, but why not take a shot at Shannon Brown?

Fairly positive write-ups on Smith/Amundson from basketball prospectus. Dirk takes kind of a hit in there though...
Smith's stall stature hasn't kept him from being a highly productive offensive player. His True Shooting Percentage ranks second to Amir Johnson among free-agent power forwards, and Smith uses plays at an above-average rate. He's more limited defensively and on the defensive glass, which is why Smith is doomed to a reserve role throughout his career, but he could be a bargain.
If it's energy you desire off the bench, Amundson is your guy. A poor man's Chris Andersen, Amundson flies around the rim at both ends of the floor, blocking shots (only Thomas is better among free-agent fours) and finishing with dunks. Amundson's dirty work was key for the Suns last year, and could come cheap.
http://www.basketballprospectus.com/...articleid=1184
Overall, very nice statistically-oriented write ups on free agency. Too bad Chandler doesn't get a write but I guess if its based on 09-10, it wouldn't be too encouraging.

In the 2 previous rounds that they did win.

They do have point on Dirk. A story that seems to have largely gone unnoticed around here is that Dirk has kind of slipped as a rebounder. He's kind of below average now for a power forward.

You'd like to put it on his cast being superior rebounders but a lot of guys considered "above average" are gone, played like average or are average in their late age (Howard, Damp, Kidd).
Even now, I don't know if we have a truly outstanding rebounder at any position. Marion and Kidd seem fairly ho-hum after being regarded among the league's best at their respective position for years. Dirk is now average or below at rebounding. Wood is probably a little above average and Chandler as well if healthy. Butler/JET/Beaubois are meh.
In that respect, Amundson seems like a good pick up as a robo-rebounder, especially if he is like a poor man's Anderson with the blocks/defense. I do think we need some offense coming from our frontline besides Dirk though so I hope we add Smith, too.

I'd be down for bringing in Amundson for a backup that hits the glass hard. Not sure what it will cost to bring him in, I imagine he comes pretty cheap, right?

I don't see Barnes coming to the Mavs so I don't know why he's playing games when everybody know's he's gonna jump on the bandwagon of the Lakers or Heat.

Yeah, Barnes is a fantasy. No way he signs with us.
Too bad we couldn't have gone hard after Morrow or Korver or someone with the MLE before they all got signed.
What about Azuibuike? I know he was in the Lee trade, but he had a player option this year. I guess its a decent assumption to say he exercised it, considering that trade did go down and its hard for GS to trade a player they don't own.

Possible Euroleague free-agent target?
Quote:
Dallas Mavericks could be close to sign Romain Sato
Despite the huge interest of Olympiakos to sign Romain Sato, the 29-year-old Central African Republic forward could be close to reach to an agreement with the Dallas Mavericks. This would be the second stint in the NBA for Sato, currently a free agent after his contract with Montepaschi Siena expired, after being signed by the San Antonio Spurs in the 2004-05 season, but without playing a single minute. Sato, MVP of the last Lega A, averaged 14.7 points and 4.3 rebounds in the Italian league.

Sato is a pretty awesome player whom I would rather sign than Ronnie Brewer. Interesting that Dallas is the only NBA team pushing for him.

Just checked wikipedia:
He was named the Italian League MVP in 2010 (while being known as a defensive stopper) ...sounds pretty good to me.
