Wow, that draft was something else...
Autodrafters really threw the whole thing off...

Well at least I know for the next league that I need to pounce on my deep sleepers before BG can snatch them out of my claws.

QB - Philip Rivers
RB - Steven Jackson
RB - Pierre Thomas
WR - Hines Ward
WR - Chad Ochocinco
WR - Malcom Floyd
Flex - Reggie Bush
TE - Tony Gonzalez
DST - Giants
K - Who Cares
Bench
QB - Palmer
RB - Tomlinson
RB - Montario Hardesty
RB - Leon Washington
WR - Mike Williams
I think Floyd is going to be a steal for at least the first half of the season, if not all season. He played well to end the year and VJax is going to hold out and still has to deal with a suspension. I've got PPR friendly WRs with Ward and Ocho, especially with Ward and Big Ben being out the first chunk of the year...the deep-routes won't be there, so Ward is money.
I've definitely got bench support @ the RB department, I'm pretty sure at least 1-2 of those will pan out and the big gamble is going with Thomas/Bush. Bush is a solid flex player and I think Pierre can be the closer on their drives.
If Williams plays with his head on straight, he'll be a legit WR.

Is that Mike Williams supposed to be a headcase too?

The one thing that scares me about the New Orleans running backs is that Sean Payton has shown no fear in using his third running back a lot (wish Jason Garrett would learn from him). Chris Ivory has been pretty impressive in preseason so it wouldn't surprise me if he took most of the carries that Mike Bell used to get. So there is a lot of danger that those running backs are going to cannibalize each other. As much as I liked Pierre Thomas, that kind of scared me off.

Yup, he was a problem in college but it looks like he's focused and he's been very productive in the preseason...it's all upside with him. The team is still going to be bad and they'll be behind. Outside of Winslow, he's the premiere deep threat.

Well, there really wasn't a sure-fire fit at RB at that spot, so I went with who I felt was the best available RB. It's a potential whiff on Pierre, I can see that, but Reggie is still a viable starter...2nd RB or Flex, ESPECIALLY in a PPR format.
I have belief that I protected that investment with Hardesty, LT and Washington...one of those 3 will pan out so it's solid insurance.

It's not that Pierre will be a whiff (unless you are counting on him to be a star), it's just I don't think there's upside in that situation. It's hard to see him producing much more than he did last year with the way Sean Payton manages his RBs.
I think Bush is an intriguing pick though, and he's had a pretty good preseason by all accounts.

Oh I think there's upside over last year. He missed three games last year and Mike Bell isn't there any more. It's certainly possible that they use Bell's replacement as much as they did Bell, but I think Thomas is in line for more production this year if he can stay healthy.

Yeah, in a PPR format I have my eyes on Reggie Bush. Excluding the first tier of RB's, he'll get you as many catches at the RB position as anybody will.

Yeah, but that's the thing. Mike Bell wasn't any good in the first place, yet Payton kept giving him carries. I think Payton values his running back platoon a lot so he's more than happy to give his third back plenty of carries. Also Thomas averaged 5.4 yards a carry, which is going to be hard to replicate. So even with a few more carries, he may not see whole lot of improvement in his numbers if he can't match the high bar he set for himself in ypc.
I don't want to sound too down on Pierre though because I just drafted him in another league lol.

Again, I didn't have very many options (in my opinion). And I was going to have to wait a LONG time before another RB came around. He was the safest pick at RB at that time.
I can't overly justify picking any of the next 4-5 RBs that were taken AFTER him. Last year he was ranked just inside the top 20 for RBs. Based off of my projections, he's definitely in that mix again and could top out as maybe top 15-16.

Don't think I'm trying to trash your pick BG. Like I said, I picked him up in another league so I don't think he's garbage. I just shied away from him in this league because I think his upside isn't super high.
He's actually a surprising good pass catcher out of the backfield so he's not a bad back to have in PPR. I think you'll get your top 15 back without too much trouble.

Wow, just got around to looking at my roster for the first time - I totally forgot who I drafted!
I didn't get a lot of the guys I planned on, but I also didn't have any disappointing picks... Every one of my players is either a starter, threatening to be a starter, or a possession #2 WR (solid in PPR...)
I wasn't sure how I did until I looked at the other rosters, but now I feel a lot better... Some of you guys have teams FULL of players on my "do not draft" list - have fun with those weekly ulcers!
QB1: Joe Flacco - I believe the hype! (Boldin helps...)
QB2: Nobody - why waste a roster spot on a bye week fill-in?
RB1: Ray Rice - he'll be a monster in PPR and I get to double-dip with Flacco when he gets receiving TD's!
RB2: Matt Forte - I see a bounce-back season. Sure, Martz is great for RB's in a PPR format, but an even bigger impact should come from the offensive line being healthy and Mike Tice as their offensive line coach...
RB3: Arian Foster - did you see him shred the Cowboys the other day? If Forte doesn't pan out, Foster will...
RB4: Michael Bush - my 4th RB is a starter (and a beast, at that)... Some of you have 2nd-stringers as your #2 RB... 'Nuff said.
RB5: Tim Hightower - I don't have as much faith in Beanie Wells as the folks at ESPN... There could easily be a 50/50 split in duties, with more throws going to Hightower (especially since their JV quarterback can't get the ball down the field!)
WR1: Randy Moss - he's in a contract year and Brady is healthy. More importantly, he's Randy Moss.
WR2: Calvin Johnson - Stafford looks good, Burleson is stretching the field and the Lions offensive line is holding... I think Megatron could easily be a top-5 WR again.
WR3: Hakeem Nicks - he's a big-play maker and should remain so if Eli keeps chucking it like he did last season...
WR4: Devin Aromashodu - the guy scored 75 points in the final 4 games last season. He's not a fast as Knox or Hester, but he's a lot stronger and more durable, plus Cutler looks his way enough to give him value in a PPR league. Probably only a #2 WR on his team, but an injury could propel him into the #1 spot and he has the talent to capitalize.
WR5: Legedu Naanee - kind of like Aromashodu, but less upside. Should flourish as the de facto #2 WR for the Chargers while Vincent Jackson is suspended (maybe even longer if V-Jax holds out...)
WR6: Chris Chambers - everyone forgot about this guy (except me)... He filled in nicely when Bowe was suspended last season and continued to perform well down the stretch as Cassel's #2 option... I guess I'm a bit partial because he saved my team in the Spygate Freakout league when Indy pulled the plug on Wayne...
TE1: Zach Miller - Campbell loved tossing the rock to Cooley & Davis in Washington, and Miller is more of a receiver than either of them... Believe the hype.
TE2: Nobody - seriously, bye week fill-ins should never occupy a bench slot for half the season...
D/ST: Texans - I didn't have many options by the time I chose a defense with my second-to-last pick, but I liked what I saw from Houston the other day... If they suck, all the other options I had are still on the wire...
K: David Buehler - I didn't have any Cowboys on my roster - had Felix cued, missed him, had Witten cued, missed him, had Dez cued, missed him, had the Cowboys D/ST cued, missed them... Plus, have you seen the Cowboys red zone offense in the preseason? If that continues, Buehler should have plenty of opportunities to score - he just needs to capitalize when the chances come around...

UD I have to say that I like your team. Only iffy spot is Flacco. And he could still be pretty good.
But for a 12-team league, there's a lot of quality talent on that roster.

Thanks.
Hopefully I'll do even better in the Spygate Freakout league, and I hope to completely run the tables in the auction for the Hardcore league...
I like your team in the D-M league, but your RB's kinda scare me. They're all either going to be complete studs or complete busts - the ultimate risk vs. reward team (at least nobody can accuse you of not having balls!)

Well when you don't have much in the way of keepers, high-risk, high-reward is the only way to get back into the race.

It was interesting to see how many folks drafted multiple QBs in a one QB league, especially with a truncated bench. Even in a ten-team standard league with a deep bench, I never draft more than one.

I totally didn't notice that the Texans were playing Indy in Week1.
I now have Da' Bears, who have a cushy match-up against the Lions...

He hit FG's from 51, 45, 40 and 31 yards last night and also made 2 extra points - that would have been good for 18 fantasy points in the regular season!
Sure, it's only the preseason, but does that really matter for a kicker? His FG job was on the line, so it's not like there wasn't pressure to perform...

I knew Hardesty would be a risk but the upside was definitely there...he fit the Browns running style better IMO.
I'm actually surprised McCluster was still available, that guy is going to be a jack of all trades player for the Chiefs.

I'm still unsure what I'm going to do when it comes to business time in the SGFO league lol.
I'm totally excited for the auction. I think I've got a good formula in place and I definitely like the format. It makes you test yourself haha.

Yeah, my strategy for Spygate got flipped this last week - lots of position changes in the snake... More than a few guys have moved up/down several rounds since the D-M draft (like, there's no way I could get Forte/Foster again - they're in the same round now!)
I'm definitely hyped about the auction though. You can't really have a "plan" because you have no idea how much other owners will value certain players - it's 100% improv...

Ehhhh...agree to disagree
I've got a pretty decent idea of what could happen...I'm planning for the worst and will be ready for different things. If you see the blitz, you can always audible lol.
If the perceived value is higher than what you believe, there will be bargains down the road.

Yeah, you are much more likely to get the pet players you want in auctions than in snake.
The only problem is if that player is someone else's pet player. That's when the fun begins...

To an extent, I've had a few instances where I've had the "pet player" and been in a battle, then it becomes do you feel this is cost-efficient or not?
It can be a hard thing to walk away.
