But the difference is that we're going after Tier 2 players like Whiteside, Conley and Batum instead of Tier 1 players like Durant. LeBron and Horford... Not sure if it will pan out, but it's not exactly the same situation as the last 4 summers. The Mavs seem to be playing it smarter this year.

@WojVerticalNBA: Sources on @TheVertical. Dallas Mavericks emerging as a frontrunner for Miami free agent center Hassan Whiteside. Heat's lost ground on him.

At this point players like Whiteside and Conley are big fish for Dallas. We need to get young guys like them to make the roster more attractive for future free agents but I'm fully resigned to the strong possibility Dallas will be stuck on that mediocre treadmill until after Dirk leaves and the rebuild from the ground up begins.

I completely understand shielding your tender MFFL heart from further disappointment, but it feels like we're at a breaking point here -- either the Mavs land some players, or Dirk walks... Resolution is right around the corner.

I consider a 30 year old Horford tier 2 too.

Mavs ground is we have cap that isn't in a cluster like miami. I don't know if miami's cap is as bad as the lakers. But I heard it's kind of off. Hence why Wade called us.

I'm sure the Mavs are hoping for a yes on Whiteside and bring him to the Conley meeting.

Can we? Isn't there a moratorium until the 7th.
Personally think Matthews is the best guy to speak wth Conley. Both guys are high-drive, high-character guys.

Didn't Tyson help try and recruit LA to Phoenix during the moratorium last offseason?

It appears they're getting Whiteside. Would be moot point. They liked him about five years ago. Not so much now
He was responding to a twit about AL Jefferson...but appears to be getting Whiteside before meeting with him?

That bodes VERY well for the Mavs. Holy crap, I can't believe I'm saying this, but the Mavs actually have the best shot now.

You do realize that Whiteside is 27 and Conley is 28. Yes, they are younger than Dirk and Duncan, but I wouldn't call them young guys either. Player-wise, they should be hitting their max career potential right now and declining in the next 2-3 years.
But yeah, if they are willing to come here ... sign 'em up.

Barnes Philly
Conley Mavs
Whiteside Mavs
Horford Bos
Wade Bucks
Noah NY
Parsons LAL

Simmons must be drunk. I'd say the odds of Durant going leaving OKC are about 5% at best.

Yep I'm aware. Thing is that's about the age upper tier free agents hit the unrestricted market. It's incredibly rare to see highly coveted players available to everyone before then but yea definitely sign em up if they want to be a Mav.

To be fair, the guy had Stein's pic and @NBASteinLine is pretty close to his @ESPNSteinLine -- nobody was reading the details before they retweeted.
