That would purely be an asset grab. He can't be anything but a backup PF on this team.
I'm not real sure how we can be aggressive on Brand and Scola.

I take Brand over Scola. But happy with either one. Tolliver can be an energy guy!

Is that assuming he gets waived via the Amnesty Clause?

Scola or Brand? Can we bid on both and then only take one (assuming we're the high bidder on both), or do we have to choose up front? How does it work, exactly?

One interesting wrinkle here is this may mean the Mavs can bid less for Brand. You would assume that Portland will completely shift their attention to Scola.

With all these rumors surely the Mavs have a destination in mind for guys like Roddy and Dojo.

If you bid you have to be able to clear the space if you win.

Looks like Houston is gunning hard for Dwight Howard . . . which means it'll be a lot easier for him to start shopping for a place to live in Dallas before next summer.

Scola has 3 years left on his contract, so doesnt that mean the Mavs have to go 3 years to claim him?

Scola has three years left and can't play next to Dirk. Seems like an obvious choice to me.

Can we ever trade the Scola contract? 3 years at mle is a very valuable asset.

If you signed Scola and not Brand, I think the Mavs would be willing to go "big" from time to time to assure Scola got his minutes. He's simply too good not to get minutes on this Mavs team. Either that or Dirk would get more center time than expected.

Brand has more attractive stats and proven chemistry with Kaman.

Scola is a stud in my book. Brand might have the edge only because he's capable of playing the center position as well. Defense and position abilities probably make me lean towards Brand..

Tough choice but Scola is clearly the better player imo. Brand might be a better fit though. Very tough.

Scola is an average rebounder. Could be a problem. Dirk needs good rebounders on his team. Last season it was really tough to watch sometimes. We allowed too many 2nd chances. I think short term wise Brand+Kaman (better rebounding+chemistry) is better for us.

The Mavs also need scorers. I'd give Scola the edge over Brand on the offensive end even if it's not a big edge.
I worry about Brand and his injury history even though it's probably completely in the past.. Neither get to the line much anymore. I'm not sure about defensive rebound percentages, but their numbers per 36 are pretty close on the dboard side of things.

Both would be great
PG:Collison/West
SG:Jones/Carter
SF: Scola/Marion
PF: Dirk/Scola
C: Kaman/Brand

So I was looking at Brand's playoff stats... They seem to go significantly down in the post season. He averaged 18 points in his regular season, but 9 in the post season. 9 rebounds in the regular season and 5 in the post season.

Eric Pincus is reporting (via Coon) that the minimum bid for Scola would be $10M because his contract is partially guaranteed.
http://www.hoopsworld.com/amnesty-cl...la-prohibitive
If so, how can the Mavs even bid on him?

If it's a choice between Brand and Scola, this year, for this team, give me Brand. I think they're pretty comparable in terms of what each can give you ignoring position, but Brand's had considerably more success playing as a center. That said, Scola's a quality player, and he'd be a nice asset to have. I just hope they choose wisely in bidding on Elton. It'd be a shame to miss out on him.

Exactly. 6th man, backup point guard, scoring off the bench, 3 point threat. Great fit imo.
