Yeah, I just busted my ass on my own sidewalk.
My offices/schools are closed....AGAIN.

I know, walking is probably worse than driving.
Seriously though...three "rolling blackouts" already this morning and it isn't even 9.

I'm cold.... My company just moved to a new office yesterday. Uhm, gas isn't set up yet. It was supposed to be set up yesterday morning, but the tech that was going to turn it on called and left a message at 7:30 before anyone was here saying that he needed our BTU load. Unfortunately, he didn't leave a call back number. I've never had anyone request the BTU load before setting up electricity. Personally, I think the guy just didn't want to get out in the cold. Our heating and a/c repairman thought the same. Unfortunately, they can't be back out until tomorrow. So, I'm pretty damn cold right now.
Yesterday morning, I had to leave at 5:45 to be here by 8... this morning, only took me about an hour and a half.

I meant....4 blackouts of the electrical type. I also broke out a bottle of scotch last night....so 5 blackouts in all.

The area by the AAC was terrible yesterday for driving and walking. Luckily haven't needed to go out today...power has gone out 2-3 times but no more than 10 minutes.

Man busting your rear end on ice can be really dangerous. I did it one year and I thought my head was going to bust open on the sidewalk..
eeh..what was that?? Why am I here?

The busted ass preceeded the bottled of scotch. Necessitated, perhaps. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Had a minor fender bender....never again will I attempt to drive on days like these
Why only sand and salt the major roads and highways, but leave all other road as they are? - covered in 2 inch sheet of ice.
Why don't I ever remember Chicago streets like this?
4 day weekend here I come!!! ![Cool](images/smilies/cool.gif)

^Yeah, the sand trucks definitely didn't do enough for most of the roads around me. I saw a Dart bus abandoned earlier today because it couldn't make it up freakin' knoll trail.

Yes it's cold outside. But when the road you are on has no trace of ice it is NOT necessary to continue driving at a pace of 10-15 MPH. No funeral.

This.
And whoever decided that spreading sand all over the highway was a better idea than getting some equally inexpensive rock salt should be shot in the face (don't give me this "it doesn't snow/ice in Texas" crap either - this happens a couple times EVERY year...)

Around the corner from my house. This is abnormal down here in South Texas.

Agreed, but they wouldn't order enough of it anyway. I'd estimate 80-85% of the side roads around me still aren't sanded. Not having the f'in dallas parkway along the tollway sanded is pretty unacceptable. (at least around Keller Springs it still isn't) I understand you can't have every road in the metroplex sanded, but gimme a break.

Fortunately, I did NOT get stuck in Chicago...almost did get stuck in the Boston area, but fortunately, amidst all the other canceled flights, I managed to get from Newark to DFW last night!!!
Was up in the New England area visiting clients from Sun-Wed...yes, in the Snow Storm :-)
Even up north, folks are stupid on the road, so go ahead Dallas celebrate...idiots exist EVERYWHERE!!!
That being said, the roads down here are much more dangerous...there is a big difference between packed snow which is what we see up north, and a sheet of ice, which is what we get in Dallas.
Either way, we have drivers who don't understand the concept of letting off the Gas a little, adding a bit of time to one's commute and then the idiots who simply get pissed off, because the guy in front of them is going a bit slow...
That being said...I confess, the past couple of days, I have been that idiot going too fast...but now that I'm home, I'm keeping my arse indoors and simply relaxing with the joy of not stressing out...it'll warm up soon :-)
I only wish, I was still in school, so I could enjoy the school being closed...unlike you youngins...I still have to work, there is no such thing as a Snow day when your on the job...working out of the house means that you just keep working when the weather sucks!!!

Yes, when there are huge gaps in the ice where everybody has been driving, you don't have to go 15, even 20. If you just stay in the tracks, you have complete traction.

If I'm stuck in my house for another day im either going to have to eat my dogs or have sex with them. They seem to sense something is up...they're rather nervous.

I am so pissed about this snow! I've been waiting on a new modem for over a week because it's been stuck in a UPS facility in Oklahoma City.
My problem outweighs anyone else's.

How about some movies to match this weather? Here are my recommendations...
Empire Strikes Back (I've already made a few Hoth jokes this week amongst friends)
John Carpenter's The Thing
Groundhog's Day
Dr. Zhivago (which was on recently on cable)
Fargo
Add to the list.

lol @ people who don't park their cars in their garage, is something I've been thinking a lot this week watching the action outside my window.
And secondly, I gagree with the alcohol sentiment.
I am going to leave the house tomorrow for the first time since Tuesday. Looking SO forward to it.

The roads are much better now. I drove from Addison to Las Colinas in nearly the same amount of time it usually takes me.

I'll probably run out of alcohol tonight, so tomorrow will be the first time I'll leave the house since Tuesday as well.
