Well, they called it on the Ticket today...Danny said they would lose 1-0 tonight. 2-0 is pretty close.

*sigh* freaking Rangers stranded two runners on third with less than two outs against one of the best pitchers in the American League. You just can't do that.
Oh well. At least I was pumping my first with the Mavs' game in my ear as the final out happened.

I was thinking about you at the ballpark while the 4th quarter was unfolding. That was just bad timing. But it's all good tonight.

I certainly hope that the GENERAL manager's status this season has nothing to do with the big league club's record (unless they do something crazy like lose 100).
Now the MANAGER...that dude should be updating his resume......

What a baseball noob.
And I'm going to bed. Mavs' viewing will happen early tomorrow morning.

Byrd, Cruz and Kinsler were the goats tonight not getting a runner in from third with less than 2 outs. That is inexcusable for such to occur over and over again.

I have been very forgiving and very leniant when it comes to Wash, but man he's been just idiotic this season. Mainly with the pinch-hitting...he leaves .150 hitters at bat when he can pitch hit a .350 hitter on the bench. He takes out Young with the bases loaded. Removes pitchers too soon, doesn't ride a pitcher who is pitching well, refuses to play players who are tearing it up at the plate (Andruw Jones) and has the wackiest batting orders (seriously, Cruz has pretty much been demoted to the 6th or 7th spot after starting in the cleanup spot).

I wanna see me some Holland today.
Actually, I really don't, because I would prefer that Padilla goes 8 or 9 innings. But if Padilla doesn't go 8 or 9 innings, and the situation is right, then I'd love to see me some Holland.
I'd also like to see Josh have a good game. He tore up the Arizona leagues (spring training) but since the start of the season, he just hasn't been himself...

Starting Lineup
Ian Kinsler, 2b
Michael Young, 3b
Josh Hamilton, cf
Andruw Jones, dh
Hank Blalock, 1b
Nelson Cruz, rf
David Murphy, lf
Taylor Teagarden, c
Elvis Andrus, ss
Davis is taking the day off to work with Rudy Jaramillo, according to DMN Rangers blog. Too bad Salty isn't doing that too. Man, I had high hopes about that kid after Opening Day, where he was awesome. He's been just awful since then.

there was absolutely nothing cruz could have done. Theres not a right handed hitter in baseball who makes contact with any of the 3 fastballs he saw after being up 3-0. Greinke hasnt given up a run in 34 innings for a reason.

94 with movement on the outside corner at the knees. No one does anything with that. Cant even elevate it for a sac fly.

I don't care how depressed your baseball team has made you over the past few days; a walk off and a mob at home plate should bring a smile to your face. I feel good right now.

Actually, that's a good pitch to just slap at and hit a little roller to the right side.. just fine for scoring a guy from third.
No, it's not the easiest pitch to hit, but he has to get something done in that situation.

That was a nice comeback. Perhaps it'll spring board them to a nice little hot streak. It's just a shame that some of the guys have gone cold at the same time.

Whaterver happened to Blake Bevin? Is he still a highly rated prospect. All I hear about is Feliz and Holland.

Yeah he is. He's just a little further away than some of the top end pitching prospects. He's squarely in the top 10-15 Ranger prospects, and that's an accomplishment right now.

So is he competing for a roster spot next year or is he still a couple of years away?

He has started this season in High A. If he does well he should be in AA (Frisco) before this season is over and that would probably put him in line to at least spend some time in big league camp next spring.
But ultimately I think mid-season 2010 or maybe 2011 is more likely. But I'm no expert, and with these pitchers it can be hard to pin down. Holland started last season in A Ball and he's already been called up, although he wasn't a high school pitcher, they generally take longer for obvious reasons.

Beaven was dominant last year even with a drop in velocity. It'll be inetesting to see how he pitches this season and to see just how hard he's throwing.

Beaven is still a high rated prospect, and I'm sure he could be a #1 or #2 or #3 pitching prospect in other farm systems. However, in this farm system, we have at least 5 pitchers more highly rated...
1) Holland (I'll call him a prospect for now)
2) Neftali Feliz
3) Michael Main
4) Wilmer Font
5) Martin Perez
Not in any order, but I think all 5 of those pitchers are better prospects than Beaven right now, and that's not a knock on Beaven, because he's good. Its just tells how our farm system is killer.
The next "tier" of prospects has Beaven, Kiker, Neil Ramirez, Poveda, Boscan, Diamond and Moscoso.

i'm glad to see them bring Holland up. if they're aiming for a big run next year ("the" year as everyone is saying) i'd rather have these kids with some experience than filling out the roster with rookies who haven't played much. solid move in my opinion.

The end of that game was absolutely bizarre.
But Derek Holland had a nice debut. Very excited.
