Portland has a 3/8 shot of getting the 7 seed - so it's 21/128 or 16.4% that they face as a 2 v. 7 seed
Memphis has a 3/8 shot of getting the 7 seed - so it's a 21/128 or 16.4% that they face as a 2 v. 7 seed
New Orleans has a 1/4 shot of getting the 7 seed - so it's a 7/64 or 10.9% that they face as a 2 v. 7 seed
If all possibilities are equally weighed, Dallas has a 6/16 shot of getting the 3 seed, 2 scenarios w/ a Win and 4 scenarios w/ a Loss
If it's with a W, 5/8 (62.5% chance) they play Portland, 3/8 (37.5% chance) they play Memphis
If it's with a L, 5/8 (62.5% chance) they play Portland, 2/8 (25% chance) they play Memphis, 1/8 (12.5%) chance they play New Orleans
And of course, if they're the 4 seed (3/16 scenarios), they play Denver
so my best answer to your question fluid is: "??!?!?"

Would be great if Spurs somehow could beat the Lakers tonight. Then we got basically a 50:50 chance of meeting either New Orleans or Memphis. Otherwise we'd only have 35% of meeting one of these teams.
Best option for tonight would be Spurs W, Grizzlies W. Then our chances of meeting Denver or Portland are 37.5%. "Worst Case" Lakers W and Blazers W. That would most likely lead to a matchup with Portland or Denver (75%).

Well, then we have to hope for something extraordinary to happen in what appears to be the final game for the Kings in Sacramento.
Or we could lose, let OKC win, and take that 4th seed.

Yeah .. so much for securing that NBA-best record. Totally unimportant for Greg. They don't want to meet the Lakers in the second round and they won't.
At least that makes the decision easy which game to watch

Stoopid tanking Spurs. Oh well... even with a full roster this was gonna be a tough game for the Spurs. You know the Lakers are gonna be trying harder than hell...

Lakers will play in Sacramento. Probably last game in Sacramento ever and they hate the Lakers there.
Could be fun and hard game for the Lakers

Hollinger claims that Memphis should tank that game. What am I missing? Do they want to end up with the Lakers in the first round?

I guess the plan would be tank both games and guarantee a matchup with the Spurs, rather than risk playing the Lakers. They're doing a pretty bad job of tanking right now though...

I'll add that it would make sense if they wanna get away from the L.A. bracket. But they own the tiebreaker over New Orleans and so New Orleans would have to win tomorrow against the Mavs. And for us, tanking is completely irrelevant. Oklahoma City plays after us, so even if we lose, they could decide whether to win their game or not. I really don't get it. At worst, Memphis ends up with the Lakers in my eyes.

What's strange is that you don't think Brewer is a good fit in the the "crucible", but you think Roddy is.

What I actually think is that as poor offensively as roddy has been, the coaching staff seem to feel that he's doing well enough defensively and know what he is doing. What I also think is that neither brewer nor roddy will be impactful in big minutes. Spot duty yes but nothing that will turn a series either way. In other words just like roddy earlier folks now think brewer is a saviour because they are looking so hard for one.
They'll make some good plays and some bad plays...but neither one will make much of an impact on the series. They are both being tremendously overrated.

I'd probably hang with roddy because he's been on the court the most at the two and Carlisle must want a young fast defender and guard. Hopefully one that can start to hits some shots. Barring that I probably would start dsteve, out of need, but his ball handling is poor and he does not have the ability to drive the ball.

You don't know if he's done for the year. He's probably not playing against SAC tomorrow but we won't know any more till the MRI comes back.

"could" but I edited my statement.
You know if Bynum doesn't play against the Kings the Kings could have a punchers chance
how exactly are the Lakers going to score off the bench?

Well, if Portland loses, I'm not so sure they want to win this game.

They will still win. I have higher hopes for tomorrow to be honest. Spurs would be plain stupid not to lose this one.

Ah ... I completely missed the fact that New Orleans has got the better divisional record. So they own the tiebreaker over Memphis. It all makes sense now

I understand the sentiment, and to be honest I cannot deny that I felt better about the Mavericks' chances when I heard about the injury, but you should be careful when making comments like this. I'm sure you don't wish injury on anyone but people will put you down for coming out with a statement like this.

Then I guess I shouldn't say that I hope all the spurs get food poising and have to forfeit all postseason games.

My personal take is that it doesn't make any sense to tank the game against the Hornets. Because if we do we'll end up with either Portland or Denver and the Thunder could decide whether they want to stay in the Spurs bracket or move up. The overall consensus is that Memphis will tank their game (if needed) to move down and match up with the Spurs. So a win against the Hornets would land us the Hornets if the Lakers failed in Sactown. They will be without Bynum, Barnes and Blake down there.
