Carlisle called Roddy "one of our prime options at point guard" behind Kidd.

So they will test him at PG. There will be plenty of minutes in all those b2b even if they sign another vet.
But will be good to see if he is a longterm option there or if he is forever an undersized SG...

As per BG, Carlisle also noted that Roddy "went live in practice today." He was running, jumping and dunking...with authority.

Training camp reports are almost uniformly rainbows and unicorns when it comes to evaluations of young players. Any and all reports on Ian, Booby, DoJo, and Brandan should be digested accordingly. That said, I've never lost faith in what Booby's capable of if he can get healthy, and I'm very much looking forward to seeing him bounce back and take a big step forward this season.

I thought I evaluated the authoritativeness of his dunking rather well, without rainbows, unicorns or hair bands.

Almost forgot that Roddy is still a Mavs. Must feeling bad knowing that the team won the title with his services not needed. Same goes for Tough Juice.

I'll take any good news with Roddy I can get. I just hope to the one above that this kid can remain healthy and reign in those amazing skills he has. If we can get a healthy Roddy, he can be a game changer for this team. I don't think I'm overstating his potential impact.

Just a report that he's dunking is positive news as far as I'm concerned, especially given that the previous page of this thread made his health seem fairly uncertain. Dunking is a high-stress activity for one's feet so that makes me think that he's pretty far along in his recovery. Sounds like he'll be in uniform on opening day.

Part of the working out for him was one on one in the mid-post. He was working on facing up and using a burst to get around and finish at the rim.

Btw Bryan, what's up with the Mavsfastbreak link in your sig? I'm getting an 'Error 403' message. I want to read about this stuff!

I was too lazy to take it down during the lockout. The site hasn't been reset since it's now over. I've been told it should be up "shortly."

So what you're saying is, Booby's painting the rainbows, and you're just riding the unicorn to spread the word and let everybody know where the pot of gold lies? Dig it.
Good to have you back on the beat, BG.

For Roddys PG minutes i would like to see him with Terry, Dirk and Odom on the floor. This would take a lot of pressure of him.
Terry and Dirk as the mavs player that draw the most attention (and as shotclock running out bailout options) and Odom as Pointforward.

We need him playing like in his rookie year, not last season.

Have to say that there is progress for the first time since his rookie season in my eyes. Only little things but he took a step into the right direction between G1 and 2 in the preseason.
In Game 2 he utilized screens much better (or at all since... I don't remember): http://youtu.be/pSvb7F0cQ7o
He split a double team earlier in the first quarter but instead of taking the floater he tried to pass to Mahinmi under the basket which resulted in his only turnover. The high pick and roll with Dirk looks like what they did with Barea and I liked that he went to the basket and earned free throws instead of kicking it out to Odom, who was wide open in the corner. And the two man game with Dirk also was nice to see.
It's encouraging.

Looked in the 2nd half finally more confident again. He need a few good games to boost his confidence.
And the re-steal against DeRozan, damn....

I like his game. I think he'll keep getting better as long as he gets consistent minutes.

Kidd being out was a godsend. Roddy got some consistent minutes and now he is looking like the guy we all have been expecting since his good rookie season year before last. I doubt Carlisle lets Roddy get his confidence back with PT unless Kidd was out....

It was one game, and no, he didn't get consistent minutes. He should be after this game though, because our offense is lethargic until Dirk get's a little closer to his optimum production. I would be all for sitting him a little, if it can help his knees, but he kinda implied it gets better with playing, so maybe it's a muscle thing, maybe it's those muscles that help the knee. Anyway, great game by Roddy, on both ends, he saved our behinds tonight. Keep it up Rodrigue.

So Roddy has been able to do a little bit of this and that throughout different games thus far and so the advanced metrics had him scheduled for a game where he finally can put it all together to fill the boxscore.

I'll get excited when he plays even better versus NO. A big game for the young fellow.
It would be lovely if he and Ian could make us feel good in a worst case scenario of no big star being signed or traded for.
