Can I make a request that you join the 21st century and start putting 's after singular possessives? Beaubois's, not Beaubois'.

(PS: If it's an ESPNDallas editor who did that, and not you, allow me to make an alternative request: destroy him.)

(PSS: Awesome seeing your name there, as always.)

Mavericks essentially out of the race for free agent guard Monta Ellis

The Mavericks are essentially out of the running for Monta Ellis according to Donnie Nelson. Too many people are already in the backcourt to make acquiring that free agent a reality. So now it looks like it's Andrew Bynum or bust.

If Dallas is out of the race for Monta Ellis, Harris will be our starting SG.

PG- Calderon - Larkin - Mekel
SG- Harris - Ellington - Ledo - Vince Carter

Yeah for the cost of Ellis we got two old spares in Calderon and Harris.

Among qualified PGS
1st - Calderon 61.6%
9th - Harris 56.5%
63rd - Ellis 49.3%

If we get Bynum, we may have a starting lineup that is all high in TS% (scoring efficiency) at their position.
8th - Bynum - 59.4% (2011-2012)/6th - Wright 60.6%
10th - Dirk - 56.4% (2011-2012)
22nd - Marion - 55.3%
10th - Carter 57.1%
1st - Calderon 61.6%/13th - Harris 56.5%

And top 10 in PER at every position.
2nd - Bynum - 23.00
7th - Dirk - 19.88
8th - Marion - 18.02
5th - Carter - 17.87
9th - Calderon - 18.80

Top 10 in production from every position and a lot of very efficient scorers? Sounds good to me.

Yup. Dodged a bullet there. Whatever will we do without a below-average three point shooter that heaves up four attempts per game (at 29% last year, no less!)?

Devin plays defense and hustles, even when he isn't getting shots.

And his entire contract will likely be cheaper than one year of Ellis.

And FWIW I hope we go into the season with Wayne as the starter so Devin can be our change-of-pace guard off the bench. If Ellis can't handle the starting responsibilities, bring him in as a long-distance flamethrower. If Wayne's not getting 5-6 3PA per 36, we're not using him correctly.

That last conjecture is looking, shall we say, questionable. Not that the post you're responding to wasn't way off-base.

I suspect they'll trade off. Teams that struggle to keep opponents out of the lane and/or lack a big SG, Devin probably gets the call. Teams with bigger SGs, Ellington might get the nod.

Edit to add, super-quick point guards might earn Devin a starting spot as well, with he and Jose cross-matching defensively.

Getting Bynum and dodging Ellis is pretty much the ceiling this offseason. Lots of question marks going into the season, but in terms of putting together the best team available, that's it.

No. We already missed out on the best possible plan B's once we wasted a week on Dwight. We are onto plan C and beyond.

What would've been your Plan B?

Meh. We got my "plan A" PG (Calderon), we'll likely re-sign Wright (also part of my plan A). I never thought we had a real shot at Howard which looked to me like taking a long shot on Bynum or Oden would be their move at center (though after missing the playoffs I thought they might draft one). Only thing which hasn't gone as expected so far has been picking up Harris and Ellison at SG (was kinda hoping Gerald Henderson might be available cheap). Of course spending more money there would severely limit options at C even more than they already are.

Teague would have been a nice get. But they're both restricted. T-Wolves just match anything for Pek. And potentially we lose out on Calderon, Harris, Bynum, Ellington AND Teague and Pek! No thanks

Both of those guys are restricted free agents, which means their teams would have a week (the same amount of time you say we "wasted" chasing Howard) to match any offer... Same risk, less reward - brilliant Plan B!

No they don't just match anything. They have their two stars in Rubio and Love. You think Minnesota is going into luxury tax for Pek? Signing Pek to a near max would hamper re signing Love or Rubio to their max when the time comes. Shipping Marion off would of had us close to 28 million. 14 for Pek and 12 for Teague. Leaves us two million. If I thought I had to dig more Carter is gone and the offers go up.

Well then you tank. You don't sign a bunch of scrubs to ensure mediocrity. If we are even to mediocrity yet.

So we can be like the Bobcats? Yeah, that's a much better Plan B.

You should stick to poking holes in other peoples' ideas...

If the Bobcats land Wiggins this year you will be singing a much different tune. Watch a few Wiggins clips on youtube and remember that when we are getting stomped by the Rockets or Spurs this year. Not only will we get stomped we'll have no shot at getting one of the franchise changing players to go in the top 5.
