I know this isn't the thread to talk DPOY, but the media hype over Howard and the Knicks completely overshadowed Marion. Howard was going to be handed the award again, had he stayed healthy; and probably, deservedly so.
The main argument I always see with Tyson is the variance from the Knick's defensive numbers from last year to those of this year. I always find myself scratching my head at the fact these "analysts" and "experts" can't see the fact that the Knicks defense was a joke for years before Tyson was brought in. Plus the additions of Shumpert and improved D by Melo. I don't know. I always get tagged "biased" when discussing this topic.
Marion was called upon to guard Kobe, Durant, Aldridge, Paul, LeBron, Wade, Pierce, etc. I could go on and on. The point being is that not only are you talking about him having to defend the most prolific offensive players in the game today, and on an almost nightly basis, he has had to defend a range of positions. And, to my opinion, did it very well, all things considered.
He is definitely my DPOY but then again I'm glad Tyson is getting respect. Just would rather Marion get a little more respect among the media and "experts."

It's pretty simple to me:
A) Knicks were PUTRID on defense last year and the credit goes to him
B) It's happening in NY, so the media is going to hype that up

Tyson is getting the credit for guarding all of them though.

Defensive player of the year should be "Canning Mike D'Antoni."
(I know their defense improved some before D'Antoni left. It's a joke.)

Still think it was the best decision to walk Chandler. 4 years at 15 per is way too much. If only Chandler still had a couple years remaining on his original contract when he first came here.

Ironically, if he had a couple of years on that contract the Mavs may have never brought him in - the move was framed as a way to preserve flexibility to make a run for a guy like Chris Paul after we struck out on the Dust Chip.
Steve Nash --> Nash cap-space --> Damp --> Dust Chip --> TY --> Ty's exception --> Lamar Odom's --> ?

4years at 14.
Edit:specifically... 13.1, 13.6, 14.1 and 14.6... So actually 13.85/year.
And tysons salary last year was 12.6

Could and should. Question is whether the Mavs would throw that amount of money at him with Deron in town. I personally was kind of hoping Kidd would take a minimum salary.

Bad timing, bad move.
Sorry, but in May 2013 he won't be a mid level guy (performance wise)..

Kidd not but if Chalmers and Cole fail in the playoffs the Heat would offer Kidd whatever he wants.
I also saw that GSW was gonna go after Kidd so Kidd could be a mentor for Stephen Curry.

Yeah Kidd isn't worth that much I wouldn't mind him getting his start in Mavs front office.

People are acting like Deshawn/JJB/Caron are lighting it on fire in there new places. Caron was absolutley terrible on the clippers he shot 40.7% from floor and didn't even get to the line 2 times a game, also only 3.7 RPG in 30 minutes. Barea shot 40% from the floor and he did a nice job with 5.7/2.5 A/TO ratio that being said he continued to prove he isn't good enough as a starter to lead a good team, solid backup but a backup isn't worth the money he is making. Deshawn meanwhile was absolutley terrible, whether it was injury related who knows but he shot 28% from the floor for christ sakes. BTW if you look at his twitter account seems he wants to go back to Dallas. People don't seem to want to talk about it but a big reason for Mavs decline this year is Dirk/Marion/Jet all regressed on offensive side of the ball.
I don't believe anythings a done deal with Deron either way till he officially agrees to resign with Nets or signs deal with Mavs. That being said I think it is down to those 2 options.

So True. Also, watching some of the other series, we lack guys who do the dirty work really well. I just love how Marc Gasol/Clipper bigs set screens. The defender can't go over or under the screen, that's how good they are set. Half the time, our guards have to call off the screen because they are set so poor that they get in the way of the ball handler. And lets not talk about boxing out for rebounds.
I do miss D-Steve in this series though. I believe he guarded Durant better than Marion, hence Casey switched Deshawn onto Durant and Marion on Westbrook during crunch time.

How are you defining crunch time? Because based on how I define it, Stevenson never played during crunch time. Marion was the one guarding Durant during the last 5 minutes of every game. Marion basically spent the entire game guarding Durant.

I don't think it will ultimately matter much at all in his decisionmaking, but getting swept is not the best thing to do when you're trying to woo a big FA who wants to "win now."
He's smart enough to know that it doesn't really matter much, especially because it's pretty much impossible for him to project what the team would look like with him based on what it looks like without him. But everything else equal, it'd be better to not give his other suitors (mostly the Nets) or his agent any additional ammo at meetings.

I can see both sides of this argument though - if our selling point is 'win now' then it's hard to push it when you don't know what half the core is going to be. Presumably, the FO has a framework in place both with and without Deron.

I more or less say this in my second paragraph.

Agree with this also. You can make the case both ways. The most important things, though, are going to be Dirk and the organization itself. The other pieces will fill in. I have no doubt whatsoever in the Mavs' ability to fill out the non-superstar portion of a roster. The trick is getting that second star.

Boobs, a couple of picks, cap space, I think alot depends on Batum and what he signs for. If he's long termed, they'd probalby keep LMA, now if he's given a one year tender...it could be anyone's guess. This is where Cuban's flexibility kicks in, he becomes available, Cuban gives them cap space to get LMA.

Lamarcus has 3 years left on his deal....how is he even in discussion. He is Portland's franchise player. They have a cap space, in addition to 2 lottery picks.
