We aren't in the C-3PO race to begin with. He won't want to play behind Kidd.

True, C-3PO always seemed like more of a catcher than a pitcher...

If the Monday meeting goes poorly, I have to think the Mavs will be absolutely sick with regret over already moving Damp. Granted we'll still have avenues to explore, but you have to think Damp instead of Chandler would have been a huge plus.

2 separate trades, we take on Okafor for Tyson. 3 million cash
Then the 2nd trade of Paul/Posey for expiring contracts and 3 million cash.

he's wrong about Portland. Miller, Pryzbilla and Oden could all be off the books after next season. they would also send Batum, Bayless, Fernandez. this would be for Okafor/CP3
if they really want Posey gone too the Mavs are positioned best to make that happen though.

Rudy Fernandez is an interesting possibility at the 2. He wants out of Portland, has a very manageable contract, and offers both pure shooting and versatile scoring from from the 2. Doesn't offer much defensively, but then this team isn't going that direction.

They're basically like the Clippers in the sense they could assemble talent but they're likely not going to get anywhere with it...with a much worse financial situation. They had a nice little run, but it's a flawed team and it's not going to suddenly get better. They just happened to have a Superstar in the mix. Again, if the superstar can logically see what the situation is, he's going to try to force the issue if he can. If not, he'll bide his time and use his next weapon which is free agency.
Again, It just depends on what they ultimately want to do. I can see the point with NO having the leverage but it's not out of the realm of possibilities that they play ball and be the good guy in the situation and facilitate to CP3s requests and try to ship him to one of the 3 preferred locations.

I guess my very broad ">" comparisons sort of touched on this.. but the biggest thing is that there is a MUCH larger demand for Chris Paul than Al Jefferson. You're very right in the sense that if we made the best offer (and by best, I mean far greater than the 2nd best) then sure they would do it. But knowing the demand for Chris Paul... knowing what other teams would be willing to throw at him... knowing that we're a division rival... it just isn't happening, IMO.
edit: and if he gets traded to someone for a way lamer deal than "Damp-Butler-Roddy" or if he gets traded to Charlotte for the Dust+whatever, then I will be horribly wrong and we would have definitely missed the boat on a very possible CP3 deal.

Rudy Fernandez does not = versatile scoring. He's a one trick (catch and shoot) pony. He cannot create for himself. He's very soft. He has a huge ego. I'd rather have Terry starting than him, to be honest.
No thx.

Even if charlotte gets CP3 for Dust + smth, we would not have made a huge mistake. They just fired their GM wo was totally opposed to trading CP3. Two weeks ago, no way CP3 was on the market.

Yep, at the end of the day, we'll see what kind of goodie bag NO takes home, I mean contracts are one thing, but for Paul's caliber, picks and youth are in the cards.

^^^ I'd rather keep the team we have now than make that trade. We'd have to completely gut the team to get Chris Paul. No thanks.

LoL at Paul coming to Dallas... sigh.
The best young player we ever got offered in years was Al Jefferson and we said no.

It's something to talk about...what else would you rather discuss Mavs related?
AJ might have been the best young player, but there is a difference between that and the best fit for the roster.

Yeah it is something to talk about but we could talk about Kobe forcing a trade to Dallas, too.. and yeah, Paul is significantly more likely than that but you have a significantly better chance to get hit by lightening than win the lotto, too.
Sorry for the negativity. I'm usually a rah-rah guy but I'm a little perturbed by how this offseason has gone, after yet another first-round exit, and am exhaling skepticism at this point after inhaling DUST for a year...

God knows I understand this sentiment, but this is at least much more realistic than all the Lebron/Wade talk we all engaged in over the summer (which, let's face it, was an absolute pipe-dream from day 1.)
The difference here is that Paul isn't a free agent, and therefore it's not up to him to decide where he goes. It's just gonna come down to who out there can give NO the best offer. I'm by no means saying that the Mavs are gonna be that team, but it's at least possible. The Mavs are at least in the running for Paul. They were never in the running for Lebron or Wade. Not for a second.

The New Orleans Hornets have yet to start entertaining trade offers for Chris Paul, but that hasn't stopped the superstar point guard from making exit plans.
The Orlando Magic have emerged as the top team on Paul's list of preferred destinations, replacing the New York Knicks, according to league sources.
Paul
Paul
While the Knicks are still high on Paul's list, he believes the Magic, with All-Star center Dwight Howard, would be a better fit. Paul also realizes Orlando has much more to offer New Orleans in a trade and therefore believes it is a more realistic destination than New York, according to the sources.
Paul will meet with Hornets president Hugh Weber, new general manager Dell Demps and new head coach Monty Williams to discuss the future direction of the club. The Hornets hope to convince Paul to give the new regime a chance, but sources say he is fully expected to present New Orleans with a list of teams he would like to be traded to.
In addition to Orlando and New York, Dallas and Portland are on Paul's list. The New Orleans Times-Picayune reported on Friday that Paul's agent Leon Rose reached out to all four teams this week.
While New Orleans currently has no plans to trade Paul, the club also realizes how problematic it would be to have Williams start his coaching career with a disgruntled star.
That's why the Hornets may indeed decide to trade Paul even though he has two years left on his contract. But New Orleans would not limit itself to the four clubs on Paul's list. Instead, the Hornets would look for the best deal for its franchise, according to league sources.
New Jersey and Charlotte are known to be among the many teams that would make offers for Paul. Some league sources believe New Orleans would insist that Hornets center Emeka Okafor, who has four years and $52 million left on his contract, be included in any deal for Paul.
Orlando is one of several teams that called New Orleans about trading for Paul earlier this summer, but the Hornets refused to consider moving the three-time all-star under former GM Jeff Bower. League executives are now wondering if that stance will change under Demps.
New Orleans has not listened to proposals yet, and most clubs will likely wait until after Monday's meeting to begin making offers. Orlando has not had trade discussions with the Hornets regarding Paul, according to sources.
Paul's desire to play in New York is largely tied to Carmelo Anthony, the Denver Nuggets star. Both players would like to team with new Knick Amare Stoudemire to form a Big Three that could rival Miami's trio of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.
But while such a scenario is possible, it will be difficult to pull off. First, Anthony must turn down Denver's three-year, $65 million extension offer, which is something most league insiders don't believe he will do. Then, the Knicks must put together a package for Paul that entices the Hornets without eating up all the future cap space they would use to sign Anthony as a free agent next summer. If the Knicks took back Okafor with Paul, signing Anthony as a free agent in 2011 would be impossible.
Beyond that, sources say New Orleans may be unlikely to send Paul to New York because so many other teams could present better offers.
Orlando, with point guard Jameer Nelson and former All-Star Vince Carter, who only has one year of guaranteed money left on his contract, is one such team. And a pairing of Paul and Howard would unquestionably make the Magic a title contender.

What a great lineup this could be!
Hmmmmmmmm.......
Paul/Kidd/Barea
Kidd/Jet/Dominique
Marion/Posey/Dominique
Dirk/Marion/Okafor
Haywood/Okafor
Two SUPERSTARS!!!!!! in caps, and we can still buy first round picks so we can get better (jet and Kidd are expirings next year too).
that's a GREAT team, and we have our superstar for the next 10 years!
Remember when San Anton got their second star, Duncan?
This would be REALLY good. Thank goodness the MBT is smart enough to get Chandler and keep their flexibility rather than lock into Al Jeff.
2 starting Centers!!!!!!! 2 starting point guards 2 starting power forwards!!!!

This roster will be nice but Okafor for Chandler it's not good idea.If Chendler will healthy this guy help us to win NBA champion.Kidd+Chandler=Alley oop
Paul hhhmmmm will be great but I think this trade is not good for us.CP3 rather will go to the Orlando or NY.I think that he does not take us under attention. In Orlando is Howard his friend.I think dallas haven't chance in race for CP3.

So you wouldn't do this deal if it included Chandler for Okafur, right? I can understand you saying that you don't think this will happen, but it's not good? Come on... I'm tempted to give you a red box for this one.

First right now as far as we know Chandler is the backup and Haywood is the starter. But even assuming that is not the case... So you think that a team with
Dirk, Chandler, Jkiddo is better than a team with .
Dirk, Okafur, Jkiiddo and CP3??
What ARE you smoking in Poland. Dirk's game is find for a running team, he doesn't have to be in the box, he just lags the play and shoots a 3ptr during the secondary break.
Our reliance on a running game is a big part of our problem imo.

Tim Thomas is eager to return to the NBA after missing most of last season to take care of his ill wife.
He's eager to return to the Dallas Mavericks, too.
Thomas' agent, Bob Myers, told ESPNDallas.com that he and the club are working toward a new deal that would resume the 33-year-old's career in Dallas.
News, notes and analysis of the Mavericks from ESPNDallas.com's Jeff Caplan, Tim MacMahon and the rest of our team. Blog.
Although nothing has been finalized, Dallas does have two roster spots open and a need for frontcourt depth.
"We're hoping to get something nailed down to bring him back there," Myers said Saturday.
The Mavericks were excited to land Thomas last season to add experience and a proven perimeter touch to their bench. But Thomas requested and received a lengthy leave of absence so he could care for his wife and their children through Tricia Thomas' serious health issues.
Thomas sent word through team officials throughout the season that he preferred to keep the specific nature of his wife's illness private. He also praised the Mavericks for their "tremendous" support through the ordeal, paving the way for a return.
After missing the start of the 2009-10 season while recovering from knee surgery, Thomas appeared in just 18 games before leaving the team, averaging 7.5 points in 15.8 minutes.
Thomas' original deal with Dallas was a one-year contract at last season's veteran mininum of $1.3 million. The Mavericks could try to sign Thomas to a similar deal or, if necessary, use some of their $5.8 million mid-level exception to bring him back.

He was behind Marion on the depth chart at PF last year, I would certainly expect that to continue again.

I think this shows why we cut ties with our old friend Shawne Williams.
Former University of Memphis basketball players Shawne Williams, 24, and Kareem Cooper, 25, were detained on separate charges today when detectives spotted Williams driving his Dodge Charger down Winchester Road without a seatbelt.
Officers reported they detected a strong odor of marijuana wafting from Cooper, who was in the passenger seat near Graceland at the time of the routine traffic stop. As Cooper stepped out of the vehicle, he turned over a handgun loaded with 20 rounds to detectives, who quickly spotted a bag of marijuana weighing 17.2 grams concealed in his crotch area, police said.
Cooper was charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to manufacture/deliver/sell and felony possession of a firearm. No bond has been set.
Williams, a former Conference-USA tournament MVP and the driver of the vehicle, presented officers his driver's license, suspended Feb. 12 for failure to satisfy a citation. A physical arrest was made to prevent the offense from continuing, the police affidavit said. His bond is set at $250.
Williams is still awaiting trial Oct. 1 for the January indictment for four counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to manufacture/deliver/sell and four counts of conspiracy to manufacture/deliver/sell a controlled substance, a codeine-based syrup. His bond was set at $16,000.
Cooper was last booked on July 10 for domestic assault with bodily harm, records show. His bond was set at $2,500.

I try to stay realistic but I would love to see zone defense with:
C- Haywood
PF - Okafor
SF - Nowitzki
SG - Marion
PG - Paul
and then Paul + Marion + Nowitzki running fast breaks.
One good thing about this Roddy+Butler+Stevenson+Chandler for Paul+Okafor+Paosey would bet that when trading deadline comes then we have still some good trading chips. There are allways playoffs teams who need then some big guys. We have Ajinca and/or Mahinmi to offer. There's some need for shooters and we have Terry and I think Barea + draft pick + cash can do wonders.

I think he was a pretty solid backup player at the beginning of last season, especially at $1.3 million. If his wife was healthy enough for him to return and he wanted to play for the same money (or lack thereof), then I'd gladly welcome him back for another year. It's not that we have millions of options anyway.

For something in the realm of $1 to $2 million, Thomas is actually a really good pickup. And I don't much like the guy. But we saw what he can do last year in that Cavs game when Dirk was out, and that ridiculous game at Houston where the Mavs went from being down 15+ to being up by like 25 in the span of a half or so.
