Is it worse to support a sports franchise a few years removed from winning a title, or digging up the memories of relatives as a means of garnering sympathy while being an intolerable cunt? That's a rhetorical question.

Wow, I just posted the same thing in the other thread... Murphy3 should make a time machine and go back to his "good ol' days" back when anybody on this forum gave a shit about what he said (oh, wait no they didn't - he was always getting banned back when this site actually had moderators.)

Obviously, they have not accomplished their goal when Cuban and donnie decided that they were head and shoulders smarter than the rest of the league with regards to the CBA.. At this point, there's no way to salvage what they've lost. So no, when you look at just this off season, there is a chance that the off season might not be a failure (a very small chance). But as far as Donnie and Cuban's grand plan that went into place after the championship, there is no other way to categorize it... an absolute failure.
The Titanic, much like most of your comments, never reached its destination. This team won a title with the same front office we have now. And Cuban and Donnie ARE head and shoulders smarter than you and most of the Niagara-Falls-of-menses crowd.

Really? Cause it seems like it's forum guys who are screaming most about blowing up the team like they should've kept everyone. In retrospect, anyone can look at how players progress and pick what a team should have done. I have huge issues with how the Mavericks piss all over the draft year after year, drives me insane and I curse them year after year for it. But the only asset I would've kept from the 2011 squad is Chandler. And even then, they would've sucked last year due to Dirk missing half the year. Which was the first year they've missed the playoffs is what, 13 years? So clearly it is folks like you who make it an all or nothing, win the championship or tank the team. I'm happy to see a competitive team take the floor and optimistic about some of the few young pieces we have. Will that win a championship? Not likely. But I love the game of basketball and there's 82 (or hopefully more) other games I'll get to watch over the course of the season for which I want to see the Mavs win as many as possible and I don't stake my entire fandom on winning the title.

This has entertainingly turned into a good example of the results of being overly anti-optimistic and stubborn-istic.

Yeah, those kinds of deals are what we need, but we did get one in Harris. Plus, AK doesn't really fit with Marion here.

Wouldn't be surprised if AK got, or going to get a little something-something under the table. Would have been a great signing, could have backed up both forward positions for 30-32 minutes a night.

Was just thinking this. I cannot believe that's all the value he had on the open market, and it's just a little too convenient that he's taking a $7 million pay cut (relative to his his deal with Minny that he opted out of), to play for the only franchise in the NBA with a Russian owner. Maybe I'm wrong and the money had just dried up, but I'm really blown away by that contract.

taxpayer mini-midlevel at 3.1 mil. I still cant believe he took such a small amount of money. And why did he opt out of 10 million this year with a team on the rise?

On the other hand, i can also see AK not caring about the money that much at this point in his career. His career earnings so far is 101 million dollars and some change. That's only the NBA. He might be around 120 million with everything added. He probably has a big portion of that saved too. So yeah, money might just wasn't that important to him this time.

Such a great post.. A lot of people on these boards think if you tank you van just magically make something happen in the near future... Ask Washington or the bobcats how that works. I just want to see a competitive team that's the best of what we had available this off season.

He can always use "ring chasing" as an excuse with that roster, but yeah, it definitely looks shady as hell...

I'd love to see the NBA block the acquisition, but they know about Prokhorov's ties to organized crime and gave him a team anyway, so I doubt they're going to.

Iguodala also had other offers to consider, and some started to evaporate. The Sacramento Kings pulled a four-year, $52 million deal off the table. Denver made him a frontloaded five-year, $60 million offer, and the Dallas Mavericks also got into the mix.

Some of the delay was, in part, because a few teams were waiting on the most coveted free agent -- Dwight Howard -- to make a decision. Even Iguodala felt the frustration.

"I actually texted Dwight, 'Yo, you're messing me up,'" he said.

Hmm...

I keep coming back to this quote wondering who, exactly, Carlisle is talking about...

Is he referring to possible amnestied/waived players? It seems like he has specific names in mind, but Artest is the only guy that qualifies so far... Also, he used the plural, although that might be obvious since we have more than one hole to fill.

Not many "names" left in the free agent market. Maybe there's a trade brewing?

I don't see it happening. Unless... we trade off Marion for a big or shift him back to his old PF spot. Which would have Peace being SF. But that's really a coin flip idea.

The second-highest paid guy on this roster isn't going to be a backup...

The ONLY chance of Artest coming here is if Marion gets traded.

If the Hawks keep Teague, then I think Ellis could be a real possibility on the cheap. Who else is going to pay him?

I think that part was his personal opinion... And the tweet from EKS came from earlier today.

That was weird..If MWP ends in Dallas and you call it because of the "good name" reference..Good call! I thought it was a fredurian slip or just RC been jovial.

Exactly. But could this add another idea of starting Dirk at center? You have a lineup of Calderon, SG, Peace, Trix, and Dirk.

Well, there's still a lot that would have to happen for Artest to land in Dallas... And I also wonder if Carlisle really has any interest in reuniting with that headcase. I know RC is always talking about wanting "character guys" in his locker room, but I'm not sure if Ron-Ron is the kind of character he's referring to.

Artest and Marion combined would be one hell of a feisty defensive man to man pair. Dirk would mostly have to rebound on the defensive end. Which he's decent at doing.
