thought this would happen. Mavs would really have to go hard if they wanted to pry him from Miami.
I still think Tolliver would be a great addition to fill out the roster. Along with Mo

I'd love to see what Ricky Ledo looks like on the floor with real NBA players...

I could live with Mo, not sure about Tolliver.

The team looks very good as of right now. If we could just strengthen our point guard spot this team would be a problem. I'm hoping we can get a guy that can hit threes and play tough defense. What do you guys think?

Yep, traded him for Rudy Fernandez. Rudy would be nice on this team right now. (Won't happen though).

Personally just want us to pick up Mo, re-up James as our fourth center and grab a high-potential young guy and be done. I don't want 15 vets.

Chandler/Wright/Smith/James looks beefy on paper but Chandler is due for a couple of missed games, I'd like Wright to mostly be a PF and Wright is situational at C, and Smith may not be/stay 100% healthy.
Plus, even if those three all stay healthy, James seems like a great, hardworking guy to practice with. You could do worse for a towel-waver.

@tomhaberstroh: Wow. Mavs have 3 of the best free agency deals: Dirk at $10M/yr, Devin Harris at $3M/yr + Richard Jefferson (absolute steal at vet minimum).

@WojYahooNBA: Free agent guard DJ Augustin has reached a two-year, $6 million deal with the Detroit Pistons, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.

Can't afford to pay him more than the $2.7m room exception...

Our offense (which was already top notch), just got a LOT better.
Our defense may only be marginally better. (Dirk/Ellis/Parsons all average to below average defenders)
Still, this has been a really salty off season for the MBT.
Well done, Donne&Cuban. You still have my trust.

Just looked up Smith's age. Wow. 3-year vet who is 23. I don't view him as a young project as much as a scrapper/journeyman, but he's still way younger than I thought and considerably younger than James, who will turn 30 during this season.

We still don't have a backup pf. Really like to see one that isn't of a different position.

Everyone should rest easy tonight with the job the MBT has done during this free agent season. After several very frustrating off seasons this one should go down in the Mavs' history books as one of the very best.

I am interested in knowing how much better of a defender Marion was LAST season compared to Parsons.
The ole eyeball test had Marion slipping a lot last season. Just didn't look as quick/explosive. Still good...but nothing like we saw for the bulk of his career.

Wright is a natural PF who didn't get much burn there because of how much we needed him at center and his relative lack of range. Crowder was actually best when he played PF. Parsons was just as good at the PF as he was at the SF, he just couldnt defend the opposing PF, so he may get some time when against a team without a scoring PF.

The past two off seasons on the whole had been a failure. The Mavs wasted Dirk window years. But yes, now Cuban does deserve credit. Good job

It still seems strange not to get an insurance policy there at the very least. But maybe we will?

How about Andre Blatche for Dirk's backup? What could Carlisle do with him I wonder?

Good point. I hadn't even really considered Parsons at the 4 because of his weakness inside on D, but your right.. against certain teams in the regular season he could absolutely put in some valuable minutes. I believe the scouting video posted online said he had something like a 50% conversation rate (albeit low attempts) when posting up inside on someone..... and had some nice moves at that.

I wish there was a good individual measure of defense, but the best we have is On/off PP100.
On/off Offensive numbers (bigger is better)
Parsons +5.0
Marion -4.0
On/off defensive numbers (lower is better)
Parsons +2.4
Marion +5.3
As you can see, Marion hurt both our defense AND our offense by a lot. Parsons hurt the Rockets' defense, but not by nearly as much, while making the offense considerably more efficient. Then again, on/off PP100 are easily skewed. I'm not sure who would sub in for Marion, but that impacts the defensive numbers. The numbers are even more skewed because Marion was asked to defend the SG, SF, and PF positions this year, even those his age limited his ability to guard SGs and his size hurts his ability to guard PFs. Had Marion been able to only guard SFs, he may have looked better defensively. It's also of note that Marion was 11th among SFs in rebounding. Parsons was 40th (although the different play styles can account for some of that). Marion is still an elite rebounder even if his defense has slid with age.

Love it. Getting younger while maintaining flexibility long term and plenty of veteran leadership. I have two questions about the players listed above for people that have a better knowledge of the summer games.
Ledo- I keep hearing he has made some progress, but still has some ways to go. Is there any player who has had a similar skillset and taken a similiar journey as him and actually made it? Seems like his game is more that of a superstar who never made it. Could he be a solid role player? Sorry in advance if this is kinda elementary.
Brandon Wright- I just don't see him being on the squad next year. I said two things probably had to happen for us to get an A-A+ this off season before it actually began. We had to find a way to unload Calderon (love him, hate the fit), and we have to find a way to sell high on Brandon Wright. He's 26 now, has all the tools to be a nice piece somewhere, but just doesn't seem to fit in our 3 year window. Do you think im understating the impact he can have on games in the playoffs? Are the Spurs just a really bad match up for him and maybe against other teams he could be worked in more efficiently?

I keep thinking the Mavs need some size at the guard spots. Felton, Harris, and Ellis are all a bit undersized. Mo Williams won't really help that case. I don't see any SGs with size left on the board, other than Alan Anderson who I always thought was more of a SF.

Everything I have seen on Parsons tells me he can be an average to above average defender with the right coaching/scheme. Monte is just outmatched as a 2 guard in this league. This is not the case necessarily for Parsons. I think his potential on the boards might be somewhat limited, but everything else tells me he will not be a weakness under Carlisle.
