Marc Stein seems to think that there's something else up Nelson's sleeve. The usual suspects are Wallace, Marion, O'Neal. Seems Charlotte tossed Wallace out there for Marion, but Miami didn't want the long term deal.
Supposedly there was a 4 teamer, OK City, Charlotte, Mavs and Miami, but Dallas threw a wrench in there with the Diop trade, Miami's also looking for a legit center. But would think that the same essential players could be rehashed and something worked out. Felton-Wallace-May-Nazr-Stack-JHo-Marion-Watson.

I am definitely pro Gerald Wallace being here and would not mind the long term contract. Id much rather not wait two years to compete... and if we can swing Kidds contract for a big and get Wallace with J Ho then I see that team competing.

Kidds contract? We traded Devin remember? We need Kidd running the point if we're still trying for that championship, unless you think JJB is ready to lead an elite team...

Charlotte has won 4 of 5 and 10 of 17 since the Diaw/Bell trade. And Felton's still playing really well. We'd better hope they start losing. Augustin hopes to play Sunday. Brown does know what he's doing. Wish we'd had a shot at him this offseason. He would've reshaped this roster by now.

If we trade Howard for Felton, and dump kidd for an above-average starter that plays a position other than the 1, we are in business.
Then again there is a real chance we trade howard for expiring contracts, and let Kidd expire

Don't mind if we trade Howard for expiring contracts as long as their names are O'Neal and Parker(Jermaine and Anthony, not the other, better ones). Serviceable players that can be re-signed or re-traded. I just hope we get SOMETHING back for J-Ho at this point. Whether it's before the deadline or after the season. Unfortunately I don't think they'll trade Kidd. But trading Kidd would be the quickest way to reshape our roster. He would fetch us 2 or 3 good players.

Howard for Felton is not a good trade. We absolutely have to get more than that for Josh if we want any chance of being successful before Dirk is done here.

Diop was 4-5 from the field last night, 8 points, 4 boards (2 offensive) in 16 minutes.

Nash: 2-time MVP
Finely: NBA Championship
Harris: All-Star (?)
Diop: 4-5 shooting in 16 minutes
I swear, EVERYBODY gets better after the Mavs let them go!

If Gana becomes a 8/4 guy then someone should get fired. Carlisle, Donnie, Cuban... I don't care who, as long as someone goes fishing. Good news is that I can't imagine he'll avg more than 2 pts/gm.

Actually, it was blocked (more like tipped) because of Diop's shooting percentage, which is the reason that it went in. Otherwise, it would have been 20ft over the backboard.
There. I feel better know that I've made fun of Diop.

In just under 5 minutes of play against the Lakers tonight, Diop has a per48 of about 20/20 with about 10 blocked shots. That's Mantis territory, baby!!!

Well, as far as Diop is concerned, one swallow doesn't make a summer. He will have to average that kind of numbers from today and the last game on a consistent basis to justify his big contract. I guess it's just as likely that his salary will give the Bobcats a headache sonner than later. He is basically just their 12-minute backup center and makes lots of money to play that very limited role. I assume the Mavericks offered him his contract with the idea in mind that he could become our starting center in the forseeable future, at the latest in 2010 when Damp's contract expires.
On a somewhat related note, the Bobcats just missed five or six free throws in the last two minutes of the game against the Lakers to "send" it into overtime. Absolutely unbelievable.

well, Diop ended with a very respectable 4 pts and 6rbs in 11 minutes. I expect him to go on to garner 2 time MVP status, ala Steve Nash. Anyway, his last 2 games for the Bobcats were better than any of his games for the Mavs this year.
On the related note, Charlotte won in 2OT, which means almost nothing to the rest of the West, because everyone is so far behind the Lakers that .5 games doesn't mean jack. That is, unless this is the start of an ugly slide. Maybe they'll end the season on a lackadaisical and mediocre 20 game stretch and the Mavs can regain some respectability by upsetting the unbeatable #1 seed in the first round. Then we can laugh at all the Laker fans because we know how bad that feels.

Diop hasn't been getting boxed out as well there because they actually have a post presence to keep the other defenders busy. Dirk doesn't present the low post threat so it was harder for Diop to get position for rebounds and putbacks.
