But there was a report earlier that the Clips would only go after Pierce if Jordan planned on re-signing with them... This news doesn't bode well for us.

I thought they been interested in Pierce for like a month. Because of Doc Rivers wanting him. Didn't think an old 38 year old Pierce signing would be the X factor for DJ to re sign there.

Pierce's three-year deal with Clippers will earn him nearly $10M, league source tells Yahoo Sports.
Forget DeAndre on to the Aldridge thread i guess ...

Yeah...no disrespect to Dirk but Parsons is probably more of a factor for signing DJ than Dirk at this point.
And if there is an x factor for a player drafted in 98 then I'd think Dirk would be the more appealing player.

You have that backwards -- supposedly Jordan would draw Pierce to LA, not the other way around.
If true, then that means Jordan has already told the Clippers that he plans to re-sign. But I'm not sure how much truth there is to that rumor. I guess we'll find out soon.

Rivers attracted Pierce. LAC thinks that Pierce will attract/complement Jordan.

When Splitter was traded it was a sign LMA was signing with Spurs.
When Pierce signs with LAC its a sign Clips get Jordan.
When TC leaves for Phx its a sign our FO is as inept as <insert username here> claims they are.
Mavs fans default setting is fallout shelter.

If Deandre wants a bigger part in the offense, the signing of Pierce does not help the Clippers. It should hurt them.

Another scorer to take the ball out of Jordan's hands? LOL, good plan, Clippers!

Have to think Pierce felt pretty good about Clippers chances with DJ before he committed to LA

Well I don't know. I would say Parsons and Dirk combined are the X factor. Give Dirk a center with the stature like Jordan. He'll be making it rain on fade away's. He has a good season left in him I know it.

@ramonashelburne: DeAndre Jordan told a Clippers teammate after the season that he was probably coming back. If he leaves it's because someone swayed him

The more optimistic Ramona Shelburne gets, the better I feel about us signing Jordan... I saw her use this defense mechanism with Dwight -- she's getting nervous.

I give the Mavs about a 5% chance of signing him. Honestly, the past few seasons have been butchered so badly as far as personnel goes.. There's no reason for a big free agent to sign here

@espn_macmahon: Heard that Mavs coach Rick Carlisle really impressed DeAndre Jordan with X's and O's discussion during today's meeting.

No doubt and couldn't agree more about Dirk but DJ wants to be da man and probably considers Parsons as his long-term sidekick.
I'd think Dirk is probably a great added bonus at this point.

But I think this is different.
In Dallas he will be a focus on offense where LAC he will be a 5th option on offense...especially with addition of Pierce.
At least that should have been the pitch.
Howard would have been a #1 or #2 option no matter where he went.

He wont be a focus on offense anywhere until he develops an offense...
At this point its probably more about winning sth. and the chances with CP3, Blake and Paul Pierce are significantly higher than with Parsons and a 37y old Dirk..

Completely disagree.
His decision will be more about his ego and the chance to cash in big after the 3rd year.
He has a better chance to do that by being one of the best players on the team than merely a defensive specialist. He has a better chance of becoming an offensive force on the Mavs than on the Clips.
If its all about winning he is only using us to set the bar which could very well be his strategy.
We really don't have much to offer him more than LA other than a chance to be a #1 or #2 player. Not saying that will happen but Cuban should certainly use that to his advantage because that is about all he has.

I really dont know whats the problem that we are always in the race and seem like the frontrunner than all of a sudden never get the deal done.

Same thing I wonder. Great owner, willing to spend, no state income tax, great fanbase. Maybe one day we'll land a franchise changing player in FA -_-

The part "willing to spend" isnt really true anymore in terms of Donnie and Cuban thats why we nearly completely change the Team besides Dirk since 2011 and thats part of the problem no big FA is coming here.
There is no consistency in the FO decisions.
Let alone that the future isnt looking bright. We have a 37y old Dirk, Parsons and gave the Draft Future away in the Rondo trade that turned out to be a Neckbreaker.

I still say one of the reasons is that we've had and still have a franchise player on the team.
Big egos want to be the face of the franchise and that aint happening while Dirk is on the team.
I'm not suggesting Dirk is at fault by any means or that we should get rid of him for that reason but I do believe that is part of the reason why we are unable to seal the deal with superstar caliber FAs.

The big reason is probably that other players don't see the Mavs as long term contenders.

It was also a lot of bad luck
Paul pushed Dwight to sign together with the Mavs but then Dwight did his Dwightmare-opting in crap. Give him the chance to re-do and we have a Big-3 with Paul and Dwight.
remember Deron told it was a 51:49 decision (well, good luck longterm)
Iggy was one hour away from signing with us. Warriors lucked out finding the Jizz to take the giant Biedrins/Jefferson contracts for picks...
Fegan pushed Dwight to sign here because he knew it would be a better fit but since Dwight has no brain he didnt sign here...
Thats a lot of bad luck almosts in a few years.
Yeah and course the ultimate draft brainfart by Cuban himself...overruling the Giannis pick

They needed to hit and retain better non star level pieces... Needed to do a better job in the draft even though they drafted late... And needed to have usage of assets not blow up in their faces. Sure, some of it hindsight... Some of it isn't.

My concern is that Carlisle might have overdone it. I remember hearing stories about how Doc had to very slowly introduce advanced defensive concepts to DJ. Another way of putting that is that he may not be very basketball smart...whereas Tyson understood very quickly what he needed to do along with everyone else in advanced concepts.
I want DJ, no doubt...but it concerns me just because Carlisle may not be that patient.
