Cousins said he would have only gone to Boston or Golden State. That's it.
We didn't want Randle (he's a terrible fit), but even if they did, he went to play with his friend Davis.

Its not false. He says he got no offers. I've also heard Celtics and Warriors offered him the asme deal. Does he turn down a 1 year 15 million dollar deal?Maybe he does. Maybe he doesn't. I at least hope we offered something.

If this is true then fair enough. I've heard Cousins say he was only offered the mid-level.
I don't understand how Randle was a terrible fit. Especially for the money he got. Especially since it was reported the Mavs were interested in him at one point.

Yeah you can't really just take other teams' deals and think the Mavs could have gotten the same. Boogie to GSW was because he's a coward and they offered as much as they could. It's not like 5M was his asking price.

I think Randle was definitely on our radar, but DJ is by far the superior fit. Was just priorities and Mavs got their #1. If DJ hadn't worked out, they would have probably considered throwing a pitch to Randle.

Coward if he turns down millions to get a championship. Only cares about money if he signs for a max contract on a losing team. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
Honestly, I view it as their decision and don't fault them either way. According to spotrac.com, he's made $80 million for his career. That's nice money but he still gave up a lot of money not going somewhere else.
As for GS, they've put together a massive super team all within league rules. After 4 years, they are finally going to hit some serious luxury taxes. Again, I applaud what they've accomplished. If the MBT had done this, we would have been saying how brilliant they are.

I get what you're saying, but I doubt he even surrendered much. It's a transition year for him anyway. He won't be healthy until January, the market for Centers was dry and next year's cap is projected to go up considerably, meaning he's going to get more money wherever he'll sign.
Reports say he wanted to get into Boston or GWS only to have a shot at a ring. Don't make this about money, he's simply the second true Nazgûl after Durant. Hopefully the fans will start to show some more hostility towards that crap team and I'd also be interested in the playoff ratings. For whatever reason they've gone up in recent years, but with the East being shit and Warriors title guaranteed this could be the year where it starts backfiring.

Someone on NBA SL broadcast said Warriors players were asked about them signing Howard and they said no. They were asked about Cousins and said yes. So not even the Warriors want Howard... even in a bench role capacity.

According to him he didn't have any deals after Pelicans took their deal off. Whether you believe that is up to you but I find it hard to believe.

Better fit for now? I'd agree if we were making a playoff run. But with Randle's age?Seems like a superior fit.

No matter your talent level, if you’re a big who can’t hit threes or guard the rim in today’s game you’re going to be a bit of an odd fit. Personally I’m glad we didn’t pursue Randle. I also think it’s telling the Lakers let him walk despite not having a real replacement identified.

Randle doesn't git the modern age NBA as he is mainly offense yet can't stretch the floor. It's clear the Mavs are trying to somewhat compete this year, which means Randle would have been too much of an experiment.

We can agree to disagree then. This year Boogie was no max player because of injury uncertainty, market, and not being game-ready before January or something. So he figured that he might as well chase a ring in the meantime. The Mavs had no shot unless they were willing to max him out, which would have been hella stupid.

Even then he turned down 2/40 with NO and set his mind on either BOS or GSW.

Weird fact:
Borderline playoff team OKC has a payroll before taxes of 159.7
Dominant playoff juggernaut GSW has a payroll before taxes of 143.1

When I read about Melo, I immediately start to think about advanced statistics and "moneyball". I get the marketing value he brings to putting butts in seats, but I just don't see his appeal beyond that.

@bansky: so... this was an absolutely FASCINATING listen with the 3 Cavs beat writers: https://923thefan.radio.com/articles...and-joe-vardon
they cover just how bad the disdain was between Kyrie and LeBron in the first hour and it's wild. there's tidbits like
1. lebron telling Kyrie after a game when he was with the heat "you never know man i might come back here and we might be playing together" & kyrie hating that
2. Kyrie NEVER wanted LeBron there. didn't want to be under his shadow.
3. It wasn't on the court stuff that bothered Kyrie. it was off the court stuff. LeBron used to haze Kyrie and he HATED it
4. Kyrie was going to ask for a trade after the 2016 Finals. was talked out of it
5. when Kyrie was hobbling around the 2015 playoffs LeBron was upset. Calling him soft privately
6. they intimated that, even though Kyrie isn't scared of the big moments, winning isn't the top of his priority list
7. There were entire playoff series where Kyrie wouldn't talk to ANYBODY in the organization. Would show up to practice, do his work, leave.
8. Dave once asked Kyrie about LeBron's improved 3pt shooting and Kyrie was appalled, basically saying "he can't shoot like ME"
9. Kyrie resented how much sway LeBron had with the organization.
10. Kyrie's dad and Randy Mims (one of LeBron's best friends) had beef that played a part in the whole situation
11. LeBron did nothing to try to keep Kyrie in town until the Cavs told him they had the deal set up with Boston. Then he told them it was a bad deal and to not trade Kyrie.
12. The writers said the LeBron Kyrie relationship was much worse than they realized. and LeBron essentially confirmed that this season
13. the "little brother" thing drove Kyrie crazy.
14. The overarching point seems to be that Kyrie simply NEVER wanted LeBron on the team. ever. he wanted his own team and didn't want to be under LeBron's arm or shadow. he hated the attention LeBron got and power he had
the other two hours of that show are really good too. they detail how much Kyrie didn't like Ty Lue. they talk about how fractured Love and LeBron's relationship is too. How much Wade broke the locker room this season. it's a must listen. https://923thefan.radio.com/articles...and-joe-vardon

@wojespn: Tony Parker has agreed to a two-year, $10M deal with Charlotte, league source tells ESPN
@wojespn: Source: Parker called Gregg Popovich in the last hour to inform him of decision to accept Charlotte offer. Spurs wanted Parker back, but Parker will take on a significant role with Hornets behind Kemba Walker.

@wojespn: San Antonio Spurs restricted free agent Kyle Anderson has signed a four-year, $37.2 million offer sheet with the Memphis Grizzlies, league sources told ESPN.
@wojespn: Deal includes a 15 percent trade kicker, source tells ESPN. Spurs have 48 hours to match.

They waited until all the money dried up before they made an offer... The upside of having an RFA in a tight market.
