Hassan Whiteside told at least one Heat teammate earlier this week that he was staying in Miami, AP is told. We shall see.

@ShamsCharania: Miami left its meeting with center Hassan Whiteside without an agreement, sources tell The Vertical. Dallas next up in New York.
So I guess Dallas didn't get the first meeting? Still, no deal so far.

@WojVerticalNBA: Miami swung back momentum with Hassan Whiteside in meeting tonight, league sources tell @TheVertical. Heat regained footing with Dallas.

They probably finally realized that they were just wasting their time chasing Durant. *sigh*

"Whiteside Meets with Heat
Friday, July 1
Whiteside reportedly left his meeting with the Miami Heat without agreeing to a new contract, according to Shams Charania of The Vertical. However, Adrian Wojnarowski of the same outlet noted "Miami swung back momentum with Hassan" and "regained footing with Dallas [Mavericks]."
Whiteside told at least one teammate he will re-sign with the Miami Heat, according to Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press"
How the hell did I let myself get my hopes up? I should have known better.

Those Dirk retirement thoughts are creeping vack up again. If the meeting is over and Miami has regained footing I seriously doubt he's coming.
Cuban has to realize were the ugly girl at the prom. Shoot for the Prom King but you're probably going to get rejected. Take what you can get (Parsons)

Mavs are the biggest joke of the league in terms of FA. Poor Dirk. Dallas has no appeal whatsoever

It seems we're getting to the point of Whiteside or bust. Howard would be a nice plan B but I'm not sure what we have to attract him compared to other teams. Boston would be much more appealing imo.
Unless Conley and Howard are communicating and want to pair up to come here, I don't see why Howard would come to Dallas.
Whiteside might actually help us lure another decent FA....don't see that Howard helping us that much in that regard.
I'm getting bad vibes about ever seeing Dirk in a Mavs uniform again. If Cuban misses out on Conley, Whiteside, Howard, and Batum, there aren't many other real difference makers out there. And with no trade assets it will be virtually impossible to trade for anyone that would bring us even close to contender level. That situation, along with Dirk opting out, not wanting to play for a rebuilding team, and Cuban contemplating about tearing it down last season after missing out on DJ, makes me wonder if Dirk will decide to move on.
So signing Whiteside is imperative at this point from what I see.

Just seems like the Mavs are used for leverage. We knew this FA plan was a long shot at best and the worst happens yet again. Used to it by now.

I give Cuban a lot of credit for giving it a shot but it does appear it's coming to an end. Agree Dallas has no appeal to FAs, especially now that Whiteside and some others appear to be gone, but I wouldn't say Mavs are the biggest joke in free agency. It's tough to pry star caliber players away from their respective teams and Cuban has at least made an effort.
I do think he should look at a different strategy and direction for this team if none of these FAs sign with us.

Until Dirk retires and they build this thing over again, the Mavs will simply be leverage every July 1. I'm out. I hope Dirk goes to GS and gets one more chance at a ring. It will be much more exciting to watch him there than here.

It's about to get real ugly. I hope you guys like NBA in general because the Mavs games are gonna suck and you might be forced to watch other teams.
Actually is it ironic that we could be bad enough this coming year to get a high enough pick to draft that german kid someone was talking about a year ago.

No shame in attempting the Hail Mary when down 5 in the final minute and failing to connect. It was a long shot and we tried but it wasn't meant to be. I think I'm suddenly a lot less excited about the Mavs. May take some time off here.

We should be careful what we wish for but I must admit that I'm with you on this one.
If Dirk leaves for another team it will be tough to come to the realization that we could very well be worse than the Sixers and Lakers.
I guess we'd have the best opportunity in the Josh Jackson sweepstakes to look forward to though.

We should at least offer Barnes, sign Howard, and resign Deron.

Can we sign and trade Dirk to the Warriors for their #1 at least?
Has anyone seen any stats on NBA free agency? I'm curious to see what the percentage of players are that stay with their team. And where they fall in the salary ranking. Like is it 80% chance that the top 20% of the free agents stay with their team.

Dirk owes us nothing and we've been operating on borrowed time with him for a few years now. It's one thing to strike out on top tier free agents, but we're striking out of second tier free agents now.

Dirk could get 20 million next season. I'd like to see a team give him a contract that he is actually worth.

People don't want to admit it but it was going to be bad for us either way. Conley and Whiteside were not going to do much for this team. It would've made us a 2nd tier team......still likely to be kicked out of the 1st round.

I don't give him an ounce of credit. He's a slightly scaled down version of Dinald Trump. Good job keeping that powder dry.

True, but it having Conley+Whiteside would have ensured a fun season to still watch Dirk. Now, I honestly don't want to watch him get beat up by the opposing team night in and night out. He would literally be the only player worth a crap on the team and will get hammered. Please either sign with GSW or retire.
Then Cuban can throw one seriously hilacious party at the AAC for him!

And it would've been worse with never healthy Parsons and a bunch of meh players surrounding him. That's why you risk going after them in the first place.

I think Cuban has definitely come up short on free agency but you're really going to say he's a slightly scaled down version of Trump. Cuban made his money and success from scratch. Trump inherited it. Get out of here with that garbage.

I've always thought he was a clown... An intelligent clown but a clown nonetheless. He's the guy that's so sure he's the smartest in the room and has everything figured out...
And saying I don't give him an ounce of credit is harsh... But I do think he and Donmie in large part failed in assembling a team around Dirk for the majority of his career.
