Question:
If the mavs get S.Marion, would it be a good move to try and take RIP from the pistons for Jho and whoever?

On the Marion rumor...the idea of getting 8+ rebs consistently from our sf spot tickles me greatly.
If they can pull this off, this off season is a VERY solid A.

Hear me out.
If we get JKidd to sign, Gortat at center, and Marion, we still need another NAME player to compete for a ring.
Maybe you haven't watched the NBA that long.
But if we are going to get a ring for Dirk as a Mav. We not only have to put a team out there that can beat everyone else. We also have to put a team together that can beat ESPN.
Without another name brand player, we will never beat the Kobe Lakers or the now James/Shaq Cavs.
I don't want a team that can get up 2-0 in the finals just to lose to a team that will sell more shoes.

Wait you want Allen Iverson, and I'm the one who hasn't watched the NBA for long?
No to Iverson. I can guarentee most on the board will agree. In fact you're the only one on the board I've seen say we should try to get him.
You're trying to insinuate the NBA is rigged and that we're winning a championship if we get Allen Iverson and that is laughable.

Who else do we have at the two guard?
I don't give two sh!ts if he can play. A.I. will be here for one reason.
TO GUARANTEE WE DON'T GET SCREWED FOR NOT BEING GHETTO ENOUGH!

I approve the move to try to get Marion w/o giving up Howard. We do need a good perimeter defender and since we couldn't get Ron Artest or Trevor Ariza, Marion is the next best option.

Rip isn't the game changing scoring option as most feel that he is.

His name is Jason Terry. Like AI, he's undersized, only he's not a selfish, inefficient black hole on offense.
Or were you being rhetorical?

If we are ever going to compete for a ring again in this pathetic joke of a sport,
We must assemble a team that will sell enough jerseys to hood rats first.
Who cares if you actually have the talent to win,as long as your players will draw the ratings.
I don't know if you have been watching, but after the Spurs/Cavs series drew moths for viewers, Stern has mad it quite apparent you don't play in the finals unless you fit his image of the league, And that image is Thug.
Add A.I. just for the fact we will sell more sneakers.

I can't believe somebody is actually arguing that the key to beating a rigged NBA system in which Kobe and Lebron are the chosen ones is to sign a washed-up has-been like Iverson.
Wade, CP3, the current holder of the title "AI"...these are acquisitions that make some sense to me according to the conspiracy theory logic. But Iverson?

Who else is left? Can you name any other player that is/was a name guy in this years free agent market? That might be had for the LLE? I would be all for a less washed up guy, hell I'd sign Barkley and Reggie Miller if they would commit.
Do you really think after this year the super market sweepstakes that will be 2010 won't just make The Lakers and Celtics better.
I mean people talk about how the Knicks are going to be contenders after 10 like it's a done deal. They suck, yet somehow we have to worry our point guard is going to them?
The fix is in, the sooner we get in on it, the sooner we win a ring.

Look this league is rigged the only time a team has won that didn't fit Stern's view was the Spurs.
And there is a reason they never one two in a row.
Every time they won, David Stern burned a kitten on an altar made of Pete Maravich's bones.
It is WWE with a ball. Either play along or get left out.
Our owner knows it, why else did we do the Kidd trade?
It wasn't to compete with talent, it was to compete with names.

....and yet we were a top 4 seed in the West up until the trade and the last 2 seasons we've been #7 seed and #6 seed respectively.
So how do you explain that even though we "added a name" we're a worse team than before, since it's all rigged?
But you're joking anyway because there's no way the crap you're saying can be serious. So I'm not giving you anymore attention.

It's not just about Iverson, it is if we will compete with the national media.
Who cares what the guy's name is, he can sit on the bench and do nothing as long as ESPN loves it.
For the LLE I would let A.I. ride the pine to not be called soft.

I agree that Stern is enamored with the money makers... more so than any commish in any of the major sports. However, the Spurs DID manage to win 4 times... so, you never know.

Eh, I'm not crazy about it, but I guess it's better than nothing. If we get Marion then we've got a pretty solid defensive/rebounding team, but a pretty damn lousy shooting/passing team (although no worse than what we've got presently I suppose.) However, if Rip is at all available, then he is a MUCH better option IMO.

Stein updated his article early this morning. A few things that weren't in there the last time I read it:
Quote:
The Mavericks and Toronto Raptors, according to NBA front-office sources, are in advanced discussions on a sign-and-trade deal that would bring Marion to Dallas. No trade appeared imminent Monday night, largely because this will be a difficult deal to complete without a third team to help make the salary-cap math work. But Dallas has emerged as the most determined suitor and perhaps the best option for Marion, who appeared to be heading for a new deal with the Raptors last week when Toronto succeeded in wooing Hedo Turkoglu away from the Portland Trail Blazers with an 11th-hour bid on Friday after Turkoglu had committed to the Blazers.
|
Quote:
"For sure," one source close to the process said of Stackhouse's involvement. One big issue, though, is that even buying Stackhouse out for $2 million would force Toronto to shed $2 million somewhere else from its payroll to finance its Turkoglu signing.
|
Quote:
Sources say that the Mavericks, meanwhile, are determined to keep Josh Howard even if a trade for Marion can be worked out, with Howard also entering the final year of his contract. It was not immediately clear whether Dallas will be forced to add draft considerations to the cash payment Toronto is certain to seek to cover some or all of the cost of Stackhouse's buyout.
