PJ is looking at a fat contract in a couple years.

If PJ keeps playing like this, then the sky really is the limit regardless of depth. I really never had the concerns others had about his offense. Sometimes you just miss shots.
Difference is when he misses shots, he goes balls out on D.

Assuming Suns pull the win, the Mavs keep a full game lead on the Suns for 5th
Only team the Mavs like playing more than the Suns is the Clippers. Certainly looking like yet another matchup.

This might?ve locked up the 5 seed for the Mavs. Tiebreaker over Pelicans and Suns. Kings lost again.

Any win is good, but it's concerning that Luka is experiencing consistent knee soreness. We got no chance without him.

Do we want the Clips?
I?m not scared but Thunder are the epitome of a regular season team. Easy picking against a fast break team that can?t rebound.
Plus it?s looking like Thunder then Wolves for 6th and Clippers then Nuggets for 5th

Kawhi is injured so that helps a ton. They?re pretty quiet on his injury.

I'll take either one. I think we match up well with both. The Clippers seem to be gathering some momentum again though, while the Thunder seem to be losing it.

The parallels between 2011 Shawn Marion/Tyson Chandler and 2024 PJ Washington/Daniel Gafford is stunning.

So Gafford is averaging about 3 assists per game the last 10 games or so.
It does seem that he's capable of making some good passes to cutters down low.
he had at least 3 of those last game that i can remember - one to Kyrie in the beginning of the game when Kai back cut. And a couple to PJ - wasn't sure if he just got a switch onto him where he was able to seal/bully his guy for an easy one.
Will have to watch more carefully but that combo of having a big at the top who can make those passes and guys who are cutting and are big enough to get good position down low may be helping us to rely less on the 3. Additionally this threat should open up the 3 pt shot even better cuz guys defending can't sell out to deny the 3 ball if there's the threat of a back cut and a good pass waiting.

Last 15 games:
MAVS
1st defensive rating
8th in offensive rating
19th rebound % (14th in last 10,
7th best in TO%
2nd in Net Rating
WARRIORS
9th in offense
9th in defense
3rd in rebounds
Warriors are a really tough win. I just wish Kidd could do whatever voodoo magic he does to get a frontcourt of 6'9" TJD, 6'6" Green, and 6'5" Moody to be a top-3 rebounding team

I also never really thought of PJ playing center, but he did it very well actually.
We all pay attention to Gaff and Lively because of how badly we needed centers. And they are great.
But PJ really changes this team in a way that it wasn't before because of his versatility. All OG, Draymond, or Gordon fans should rejoice with this guy. And I think he is as good as any of them really at least talent-wise.

I think many of us were hoping for Anunoby and were disappointed when he ended up elsewhere. however, I think PJ has provided just about everything we would've wanted with someone like OG for arguably a lesser price.
They're similar size with being 6'7"-6'8" with ridiculous 7'2" wingspan.
we've truly seen him guard 1-5 - and even if he's not a complete shutdown defender, his size and athleticism at least makes it a challenge.
He definitely has raised the floor (at baseline at least provides size, length, and defense - even if his shot isn't falling) and the ceiling (if he's shooting well especially from 3) of this team.

OG's man defense is better, but he is going to reportedly command 37-40 mil a year. PJ is at 15 a year and it regresses to 14.5 in his final year.
And PJ's switch and recovery defense is as good as I've seen, but maybe it's just because we've been so bad defensively.

PJ rising to a serious offensive threat makes this team incredibly dangerous because we can now comfortably start and close with DDJ.
It also lessens the reliance on THJ to put up points and limit him to a more appropriate role.

Long term, Prosper should be the perfect backup to PJ. Has very similar attributes and style of play.
Kudos to Nico for putting together a team that should compete now, but has the proper pieces to keep Luka in a Mavs uniform for a long time.
I honestly didnt think that was possible and I must say this Kyrie Crow is tasting really good right now.

Luka isn't on the injury report, so we gonna keep on cookin'.

I'm really hoping that long term, Omax can be more than just a backup for PJ. But I suppose beggars can't be choosers. I just know with all the draft capital we've given up to put this team together, we desperately need the young guys we do have to pan out.

I mean, this is the best possible case scenario with Kyrie. I gotta say, it's so fun to like Kyrie and root for him. I LOVED Kyrie in Cleveland. He was one of my absolute favorite non-Maverick players to watch ever. I fell in love with his game during the 2016 Finals, and I fell in love with that Cavs team and rooted for them while the Mavs were irrelevant. But then he proceeded to burn every bridge around the league and nearly destroy his reputation. I'm on record somewhere on this forum saying that I wouldn't even take him for the veteran minimum, because he was a perpetual malcontent and lockerroom cancer. I'm not sure why, but he seems like he's happy and locked in like never before. So I gotta eat crow too, and yes it is delicious.
It's funny, because even when the Mavs were losing last year, you could tell the vibes with Kyrie for whatever reason were far better than they ever were with Porzingis. Kyrie and Luka seem to really click and really like each other. For whatever reason, Luka and Porzingis did not click and did not seem to like each other.

We need this win.
Still a chance-- as small as it is-- that we drop to 7th. 5th/6th means we get a week of rest during the play-in for Lively/Green to get healthy.
6th is good. I think OKC will be super beatable. We just can't fall to 7/8

Lively would not be back for the play-in. It's hard to say that a week of rest and enough time to get Green/Lively back wouldn't help us.
As cocky as Mavs fans can be, a win against the white-hot Lakers and Warriors is no guarantee in a one-game series, even with Lively. This season is a testament to teams just getting hot and being unstoppable. Our chances against the Lakers/Warriors would be worse if Lively was out too.

On Stein's show on Saturday, he was talking about how Luka and Dirk have one thing in common...neither like to rest.
He said Dirk mentioned that the rest he got after winning 70 games made him rusty against GS helping to lose that first round.
Rest is great in theory, but if it's not actually helping your best player, then I'm not sure it's worth it.
And the team was rusty after all-star break.
It's one of those things that the coach has to have the team ready to play. But when you're white hot like we are, then rest can be as much of a detriment as it can be a cure.

I mean, we lost games, but Luka was amazing. Well over his season averages.
I'd say the 1-5 record was more to do with Kidd trying out a new defense. Kidd openly said he tried a coverage that failed. Our offense was higher than average. Our defense was just 30th in that span.
Even if Luka is a little rusty, it's still crazy to wish for a situation when
1) We could get bumped in a 1-game series against the red-hot Lakers/Warriors and
2) We (most likely) won't have Lively

mavs could finish 2-2 and they are the 5 seed. 1-3 would be a toss up for 5/6 seed. as long as they dont go 0-4 with pistons and hornets coming up, theyre getting the deserved rest to recalibrate for nba playoffs. i trust kyrie to not let the team come out slow.

Not everyone will like this, but a possible way to approach the week for the Mavs:
Beat Charlotte Tuesday in Charlotte;
Rest your main guys Wednesday in Miami
Beat the Pistons Friday in Dallas;
Rest your main guys Sunday in OKC Film Room 🐴🎥

I don?t hate it. Two is our magic number. 51 and 52 wins would be nice but 2 is all we need and Luka is hobbled.

I agree rest main guys vs heat.
No way are they going to sit vs Thunder on the final game of the season. End this best season since 2011 (personally) on a good note

I?m down for making a game thread when the playoffs start. We?ve been going so long on this thread for regular season might as well keep at it then close it since Mavs sucksge is no more.

When I saw that one where Giannis is over Luka...my god. People just like to have silly opinions where you can tell they never watch NBA basketball. It's just more fun to pick this guy or that guy just cuz.
Jokic winning it wouldn't bother me. Anyone else other than Luka is a flat out joke.
But part of me likes Luka not getting it knowing how much it'll fuel him come playoff time.

Giannis was just full bias. It makes no sense. He?s statistically one of the worst shooters in the league when it?s not a layup dunk. Clearly can?t play with Dame, something other players get knocked for, fired his coach and got Doc. And they?ve sucked and know they suck. You can see it in their body language lol.
