Man, where has this version of Maxi been for the past two years? He's defending better than I've ever seen him, and he's finally hitting some three's again.

Injuries kill his game big time. I know he is still nicked up, but I guess he finally got the memo not to suck ass anymore.

I think he's always been what he is: pretty good defender, decent shot-blocker, decent 3pt shooter. Sub-par rebounder (although some of that is that the coach tells him to hang out outside the arc, but even inside, he pulls down a mediocre number of contested rebounds)
He's just been banged up and that has thrown him off. He's a big at 32, so he's going to have some injuries and those injuries are going to take him long enough to come back from that he'll have to work his way back.
I get the frustratation with him, but people who want to waive or trade him for magic beans don't make sense to me. He can contribute more than Powell and now that we have Lively/Gafford/Washington, he's only playing if a center is injured or we need a second big at PF.

Man, PJ stinking it up against his former team. We gotta have him making shots to go anywhere in the playoffs.
I'm happy about the blowout, but I really don't get his hot/cold offense.

I think we can be forgiven for thinking that Maxi was washed. He's been pretty terrible for most of the last two years. 30+ year old players usually don't come back from that.
I'm happy to be wrong though. We need him playing well, especially since we don't know if Lively will even be back for the playoffs.

I gotta say, I think Luka was flat out coasting for large chunks of this game. But Luka's talent is so incredible, that him coasting is still a 39 point triple double.

I think the curse of Tarpley broke, because we went from the best and most loyal superstar in NBA history to probably the best player in the world.

After the recent excitement, this game was frightfully boring. It happens. Just take care of business and move on.

Suns off to a great start...30-4 Clippers on top.
Feel like the Suns don't get the shit they deserve this season.

Unfortunately for us, I think the Clippers are getting hot again at the right time. I do think the Mavs can beat them, but it won't be a cakewalk.

Clips are a tough matchup, imo. I cant think of anything worse than losing a 3rd time to them in the POs.

I worry because they have 2 elite defenders in PG and Kawai plus several players who can easily go off for 20+ on any given night. Add in that they have 3 7 footers, so they always have bigs to match with Gafford/Lively. Really hoping the Mavs can at least secure home court, but they are running out of time.

I can?t imagine a single fan thinking this will be easy. 6-7 games minimum and I?m not sure Mavs win even though they?ve looked amazing.

If Lively can?t go, it?s going to be a long series hoping Maxi can give us 25-30 for a 7 game series. He can give us one good game offensively, and probably four good ones defensively.

F the Clippers. There is no easy path in the west. Even if we lost to them, we will make sure they pay for it...

For whatever its worth, the Clippers have not been good defensively at all lately, even though they've been winning. Over the last 10 games, they're ranked 25th. Mavs btw are 1st.

Again, if you want to win it all, then you're playing teams like Denver and Celtics. Can't let the Clippers intimidate you.

Exactly. Besides, this kind of shit is good for the NBA. We need rivalries. Bring on the Clippers. The Mavs owe them some serious payback. And Luka is always god tier against them. Those previous series had no business going 6 and 7 games. Luka singlehandedly made those series competitive. Now that Luka has a supporting cast, watch out.

Their lack of defense is letting the Suns back in
From +35 to +10
Kinda excited to see how it ends

I mean, losing sucks no matter what, but everything changed with the deadline trades. There are no "we might lose Luka" scenarios in the short term anymore.
No real or glaring holes and no big FA drama. That does blunt a potential playoff loss a bit.

Shaq on his bullshit ALWAYS shitting on Luka. He literally brought up Ginobli as more skillful god damn he?s such a bitch
Edit: this was in response to Jamal Crawford saying Luka Kyrie is the most skilled duo ever.

What, you don't remember that time Ginobili averaged a 30 point near triple double and made 5 straight all-nba first teams?

Good point. Its just fans that have gone through the downs with Mavs and Dirk, then getting put out by Clips makes some of us nervous. But yes, we have to be ready for everyone. 2011 Mavs had one of the toughest routes to a championship ever.

This team is a well-oiled machine right now though, so I'm not really afraid of playing anyone.
And it's amazing that Luka looked like his knees were going to fall off against Houston and last night looked like a different player.

The Ringer: ?The Dallas Mavericks are the losers of the trade deadline.?
Top 5 team records since the trade deadline:
1: Celtics (23-5)
2: Dallas Mavericks (21-7) ‼️
3: Nuggets (20-8)
4: Timberwolves (20-8)
5: Thunder (19-9)

That?s what I?m saying. I think we could take them in 7, but a one-game series? Absolutely don?t want that. The NBA this year is about anarchy. If the Warriors just make everything, there's nothing we can do and would be facing being bumped from the playoffs. Plus champs are statistically the team that is freshest (fewest games, most rest). Adding a couple of games won't do us any favors.
Direct to the playoffs is the best bet. No chance to get ganked. We get a week off so Luka can heal his legs which have been sore lately. Lively and Green can become available.

Standings update:
4th - Clippers with HCA
Mavs 3-0, Clips go 0-3 (unlikely. Clips hold the tiebreaker after going 2-1 against us)
5th - Clippers without HCA
one Pelicans loss or one Mavs win
6th - OKC without HCA
Mavs go 0-3, Pels go 3-0 (Pels play Kings, Warriors, and Lakers so....not likely)
Play-in - ???
We clinched a playoff berth with a Mavs win and Suns loss. Worst we can do is tie the Suns for 7th, but we hold the tie-breaker so we'd be bumped to 6th and they'd have 7th.

Yep I said this a week ago doing that mini series vs them
They are tough matchup for Dallas because they seem to get guys like Wiggins and Paul play their basketball vs Dallas.

I'd hate to see the mavs lose to them for the 3rd time though.
That would be a tough pill to swallow especially with a roster like this year ready to compete
Truth be told I think Denver, OKC and Minnesota are more favorable matchups for Dallas.
I just don't think Kawhi can be handled by any of our wings.

One Mavs win or one Pelicans loss guarantees the Clips. With the Pels playing the Warriors, Kings, and Lakers, I would prepare for a Clippers matchup.
Now the real question is Kawhi having legitimate health issues, or is he resting to come out fresh? A redhot Clippers team (4-straight without him) that adds Kawhi could be a tough out.
Then again, people were afraid of the Lakers, Thunder, and Heat and we beat all of them in 2011. Spurs were our Clippers and we finally beat them in 2006 after being knocked out of the playoffs by them more than once.
I still stand by the idea that OKC is an easier out, but adversity builds chemistry and I'd rather have that rush of finally beating the Clippers than getting overly cocky after an easy Thunder series.
