Duncan many times frustrated us with the ISO bank shot vs. Damp and co. IMO this was probably the motivation for Dirk to use it more often in the last 2-3yrs.

I noticed that this season as well. I swear, he seemed to shoot around 75% on that fadeaway off glass. Really tough shot which he's mastered.

I can't understand what they are talking about. But seeing the dirkster hunched over a mini ping pong table is worth the look.

Nah that's not true ... Boll is also one of the most underappreciated and underrepresentated sportsperson in Germany. He's also one of the people that would have been better of if he would have been born 10-15 years earlier. The chinese players weren't as dominating and it would have been a joy to see him compete with jan ove waldner.
As with dirk you hear rarely anything about him ... and that's sad because he's also a humble incredible person that's doing so good.
Dirk was even allowed to carry the national flag at the olympics ... he is and was known in germany it's just that the reporting about basketball/us sports and other small sports sucks in germany. Well you can hear alot about soccer

Dirk greatness listed, thanks to crazyboy from realgm to collect it, other posters (mostly or all of them Mavs fans) names are staying in the post to give them credit.
Dirk Nowitzki and Mavs become first team in NBA history
To defeat three teams that each had a
ALL-NBA 1st team player and ALL-NBA 2nd team player:
Kobe and Gasol
Durant and Westbrook
LeBron and Wade
----
Dirk now holds the all time record for the most efficient scoring game (40+ points) in the history of the NBA
Achieved against OKC.
---
Dirk is only 1 of 3 players in the history of the NBA to win the ring while being a volumne scorer (25+ ppg) and hitting nothing but net (60% TS).
The others are: Larry Bird and Michael Jordan
---
Dirk now holds an all time record for consecutive FT made in a game for the regular season AND the playoffs.
Achieved against OKC.
---
Dirk is only 1 of 3 people to average more than 10 points in clutch situations in the finals.
The others are:
Most Points Per 4th Quarter
NBA Finals Past 20 Seasons
1995 Shaquille O'Neal 11.5
2000 Shaquille O'Neal 11.5
1997 Michael Jordan 10.7
2011 Dirk Nowitzki 10.3
1993 Michael Jordan 10.3
O'Neals games are marked with an asterisk because of the intentional fouls against him as soon as the 4th quarter started.
It's save to say that this elite level is reserved exclusively for Jordan and Nowitzki.
---
Dirk Nowitzki is only 1 of 4 players to ever average at least 25 points and at least 10 rebounds in the post season.
The others are: Hakeem, Baylor and Pettit.
---
Nowitzki is the 11th player in NBA history with at least 10 NBA All-Star appearances, an MVP award and a Finals MVP award. Seven of the other 10 are members of the Basketball Hall of Fame and the other three -- Tim Duncan, Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant -- are near-locks to be enshrined once they are eligible.
---
Jason Terry tied an NBA postseason record with nine 3-pointers and the Mavericks matched a league playoff mark with 20 3s on their way to a 122-86 victory over the Lakers on Sunday
---
The Dallas team now becomes the second-oldest team to ever win an NBA championship, trailing only the 1997-98 Chicago Bulls.
http://thepaintedarea.blogspot...s-would-be.html
---
Kidd become the oldest title-winning player to lead his team in minutes (regular+playoffs). He's also the oldest starter to ever win a ring. All as a guard, where speed should matter more. Just amazing longevity from the Hall of Famer.
---
The Mavericks lineup of Jason-Kidd-Jason Terry-Shawn Marion-Dirk Nowitzki-Tyson Chandler appears to be the greatest clutch lineup on Earth (since the introduction of advanced metrics).

According to BBR.com, he is. He and Bird are also the only players in playoff history to have 2 100+ FTA, 91% FT% seasons.

Los Soles:" The numbers for that Mavs crew are just ridiculous. They absolutely beat the sh*t out of Miami (offensive rating: 130.51, defensive rating: 92.44), most of the time against all three of the stooges.
Remember those crazy comebacks the Mavs had? Terry didn't start, so they would fall behind at first with their starters. Then they'd rotate through until this crew would finally all be in, and they'd begin methodically taking scalps.
They outscored Chalmers-Wade-LeBron-Bosh-Haslem 56-30. Not a chance you weigh those two lineups against each other and bet on a blowout for the Mavs. Unless, of course you believe like I do: that four-out with four 3-point shooters, a solid defensive frontcourt, and a kick@$$ pick-and-roll is simply the best way to play basketball)"
Will try to find how that lineup historically fare against famous fives, i think they has to be up there, they're dominating that list. Funny how the Barea-Terry-Peja-Dirk-Haywood lineup still did some major damage. We really played amazing team defense, if we didn't do this, José and JET gets burned badly.

Here are some more NBA records. All of these were achieved during this year:. However, some of them are not listed in wikipedia yet. If someone here has an account there, feel free to make an update.
Most free throws made in a half, playoffs
* 19 by Magic Johnson, Los Angeles Lakers vs. the Golden State Warriors on May 8, 1991
* 19 by Karl Malone, Utah Jazz vs. the Portland Trail Blazers on May 9, 1991
* 19 by Charles Barkley, Phoenix Suns vs. the Seattle SuperSonics on June 5, 1993
* 19 by Dirk Nowitzki, Dallas Mavericks (vs. Oklahoma City Thunder) on May 17, 2011 (2nd half)
Most free throws made in a quarter
* 13 by Michael Jordan, Chicago Bulls (vs. Detroit Pistons) on May 21, 1991
* 13 by Dirk Nowitzki, Dallas Mavericks (vs. Portland Trail Blazers) on April 16, 2011
* 13 by Dirk Nowitzki, Dallas Mavericks (vs. Oklahoma City Thunder) on May 17, 2011 (3rd quarter)
NBA FINALS Series:
6-game series
Highest free throw percentage
97.8% by Reggie Miller, Indiana Pacers (vs. Los Angeles Lakers), 2000
97,8% by Dirk Nowitzki, Dallas Mavericks (vs. Miami Heat), 2011
Btw, both shot 45/46.
NBA FINALS Career:
Highest free throw percentage (min. 100 attempts)
93.0% by Dirk Nowitzki (94 made in 101 attempts; 2006 + 2011)
passing the old record of Bill Sharman (92.6%, 126 made in 136 attempts)

According to BBR.com, he is. He and Bird are also the only players in playoff history to have 2 100+ FTA, 91% FT% seasons.
|
I'm not sure though. Wiki has listed Bill Sharman there with:
Highest free throw percentage (min. 250 attempts)
* 91.1% by Bill Sharman (370/406)
Any way, Dirk did some amazing stuff this year!

Seeing Dirk at the ALCS game on Saturday was awesome. Cruz and Napoli were the only ones that got bigger ovations...and that was only because they only left Dirk up on the big screen for 3-4 seconds. The MVP chants started immediately.

Nowitzki controlled the series, particularly his repeated fourth quarter dominance in one of the most closely contested championship battles in NBA history; three of the six games were not decided until the final buzzer and Dallas won two of those contests as a direct result of Nowitzki's clutch play. Nowitzki totaled 62 fourth quarter points during the series, duplicating the combined output of Miami's LeBron James and Dwyane Wade; Nowitzki shot 18-35 from the field (.514) and 24-24 from the free throw line in those pivotal fourth quarters, while James and Wade shot 23-50 from the field (.460) and 11-14 from the free throw line (.786). The Mavericks are just the fourth team with one current All-Star to win a Finals series against a team with three current All-Stars (the 1994 Rockets, 1989 Pistons, 1975 Warriors and 1951 Royals are the other teams whose lone star outdueled an opposing trio of stars).
