Marc Stein: "The Mavericks maintain they agreed to join the Jimmy Butler sign-and-trade under the belief they were getting Kelly Olynyk and Derrick Jones Jr., league sources say. The Heat reportedly do not want to surrender Jones and say they must trade Goran Dragic to make the cap math work"
WTF?!

This like turned into a dick measuring contest between Riley and Cuban, but it's looking like the deal is dead. Good.
But hey, the Warriors are about to get D'Angelo Russell, so all is good. We can sleep well tonight...

This is more complex than you realize. The Heat throwing minimum-salary contracts into the trade could work for the trade-match, but Miami would cross the hard cap. They need to move bigger salaries.

LOL this God awful trade really is stuck because of Derrick Jones. Good grief.

4/85 for a guy with lower body health concerns
AND A FIRST ROUND AND TWO SECOND ROUND PICKS
85million and three picks (of which we basically have none)? That's really steep.

Small price to pay. I thought he was getting much more money than that. Look, I understand you're a fan. I am too. I was like you last season. Justifying every move these guys make. This year is ridiculous. I'm sorry. Its almost like they got caught off guard by free agency.

That'd be hilarious if that actually was part of the trade, and the Heat had to force its former players to surrender their rings. Considering how it was all rigged something should have already been done about it.

Seems to me the only way this deal can go down is for the Heat to replace Olynik and Jones with Justise Winslow and Bam Adebayo.

Don’t see how Russel fits in GS. Wonder if we can get in that deal somehow.

He's 25 years old. He's not at the age I'm concerned about his health. KP hasn't played in 2 years and I don't hear anyone talking about we shouldn't have went after him.

That's a steep price to pay considering we really can't pay it. The second rounders aren't bad, but the first rounder? Milwaukee wouldn't want to wait until 2025 for our first rounder so we really weren't in the race.

At this point Miami should just take THJ off our hands and Butler should sign with Dallas.

Mavs don't think he's a "fit". Warriors just need scorers. Russell can do that. Its the best they can hope for at this point. HE can play the Harrison Barnes role for them.

Here's a reason: we don't have the picks to give. We literally can't trade a first round pick until 2025. That wouldn't have gotten it done.
4/85 is good if that's all it costs and he's healthy.
That's not the only cost and we simply didn't have the pick to make Milwaukee choose us over Indy.
Brogdon was a restricted FA. Milwaukee just matches and trades with the team that is offering them a first rounder. I'm not sure why you think we had a chance to get him.

In hindsight Brogdon doesn't seem to have been option. I'm not faulting them for not getting him. I'm saying initially I didn't want him becauseI thought he was going to get massively overpaid. He did not.

I REALLY wonder how badly Dallas went after guys like him.
It was mentioned on twitter though that Dallas could get in on the GS trade. Draymond Green anyone?

Actually, Brogdon is turning 27 in December.
I would have loved to see him with the Mavs, but it was definitely an expensive bet, and one not without risk. I'd pay near max for Brogdon and do the picks if he was 22-24.

@wojespn: Golden State has to unload salary elsewhere to make this sign-and-trade happen --- which means Andre Iguodala could be on the move, league sources tell ESPN.

And the Mavs will be the third team for Draymond!
I'm just trying to figure out how these trades work and apparently Draymond or Iggy would have to move somewhere. Go Mavs and stuff.

@kenny_817: Warriors lost KD and got DLo...while having 0 cap space
While Mavs have $30 mil in cap and making trades for Kelly effing Olynyk
This is chess and Mavs are playing Snake on a 2002 Nokia phone. Idiots

As long as we didn’t piss off Duffy, Dragic has to be coming here after he gets bought out after the deadline right?

I stand corrected. But what does it matter though? Between 24 and being 26? He's going to be in his prime for the next 6+ years.

This is what I don't understand. Why are teams with no cap space players in free agency? This I silly.

To try to read the gridlock here...wonder if the Heat are adamant about dumping Dragic but Mavs don't want to take him because that would keep them from being able to sign a defensive stopper like Green or Bev. Mavs may be asking for Winslow or Bam in return and Heat aren't biting.
Mavs may be coming back with the Olynyk/Jones idea and the Heat are using Jones as a deal breaker because they would still be stuck with Dragic.
IDK...doesn't make much sense but that is about all I can think of this late.

Mavs are attempting moves they can do at any time too. You can get fucking Olynyks and Dragics in your sleep without trying. Hope that trade is permanently dead.

@wojespn: Golden State is trading Andre Iguodala to the Memphis Grizzlies, league source tells ESPN. Warriors are sending a 2024 protected first-round pick in the 2024 (protected 1-4), 2025 (protected 1) and 2026 unprotected.

Yeah im sure the Mavs love Dragic but his 19m would kill any Green or Beverley signing. Thats why they went for Olynyk and Jones.
Warriors are hardcapped, for the S&T they have to dump Iggy or maybe even Draymond

I am guessing that the MBT is playing Jedi mind tricks with the Heat and in the end the Mavs end up with Butler and the Heat get THJ. It's obvious.
