I'm pretty thankful the Mavs didn't get JO. I'm not a big Dalembert fan by any stretch, but I like that addition better than JO.

Don't think you could have had both unless you losesome of the following:

Ledo
Sarge
Ellis
Ellington

I'm no cap expert but I don't think there would have been enough money to go around.

Gustavo Ayon has been waived. What you think about picking him up? Being our last player to sign.

I'd love to have Eduardo Najera 2.0, but Ayon is a poor man's version of Najera-- average rebounding, no shot blocking, poor lateral mobility and extremely limited offense.

How old is he? I think I'd rather have Carmichael. But Ayon definitely a good hustle/energy guy to have on the bench.

28 years old and stands at 6'10. Carmichael is 1 inch shorter. But could probably jump higher.

Sarge and Ellington signings are both official.

I think that leaves Larkin, Devin and one additional roster spot that, unless Oden picks Dallas, I sort of don't expect to see filled with a guaranteed deal at least until after training camp has gotten rolling.

I'd like to see Carmichael get a shot. That dude likes to play Defense.

Darn, Phoenix traded Louis Scola and got Danny Granger, I kind of wanted us to trade Marion (at 35) for Granger (30). Maybe Mavs aren't sure he'll come back from knee probs....

Bryan Gutierrez ‏@BallinWithBryan: The Mavs just announced that first-round draft pick Shane Larkin has signed his deal with the team.

Bryan Gutierrez ‏@BallinWithBryan: With the signing of Shane Larkin now official, the Mavs now have 13 players under contract

Bryan Gutierrez ‏@BallinWithBryan: Larkin slated (rookie scale) to make $1,280,800 this year, per ShamSports. He has to be signed to within 80% to 120% of the scale price.

Had to check but Larkin is 1/2 inch taller.

Larkin 5'10.5" without shoes
JJB 5'10" without shoes

So I should have said that he's JJB with better size.

And yes, I used "without shoes" but only because they were both so close. Both are between 5'11" and 6' with shoes.

Shivek blasts Donnie Nelson
By Nick Borges | ESPN.com

Dallas Mavericks rookie point guard Gal Mekel is spending the duration of the offseason in Texas working on his game and Arik Shivek is not happy. Shivek is the head coach of Israel's national team and he blasted the Mavs for Mekel's decision to skip the EuroBasket tournament, which will be played in September.

Pfffffft!!! Screw off, Shivek, you entitled piece of crap... Mekel signed a contract.

With Harris sidelined, the Mavs are going to depend on this kid as a backup early in the season - he/we can't afford the risk of injury playing overseas.

agree with UDog.
It is time for Mekel to show his stuff on a bigger stage.
I'm expecting a "rubioesque" type of pg play from him.

Mekel certainly does have a Rubio vibe to his game... I absolutely loved him in Summer League and can't wait to see what he looks like playing with real NBA players.

I also think he can learn a lot from Calderon, since they do a lot of similar things on offense.

Yeah piss off. Contract has been signed and since Larkin went down Mavs don't want to take chances and rightfully so.

FYI, Larkin will reportedly be ready to play at the start of the season. Injury was a fracture with an excepted 3 month recovery time.

I could still see Mekel higher than Larkin on the depth chart to start the season, seeing as how he's a little more polished and healthy.

I've got no idea about that and know nothing about either player, just throwing out there that Larkin should be available from day one, will likely even make camp.

That's good news, actually. Nothing sucks worse for a rookie than missing their first training camp.

Not sure where you got this considering we haven't seen Larkin play. Also Mekel has the worst jump shot I can remember a guy coming out with. I think he has potential but he's very far from polished.

I didn't say he was polished - I said he was a little more polished, and that's mostly due to his experience in Euroleague... Plus, the fact that we haven't seen Larkin because of his injury also factors into my opinion. And I'm only talking about who should be more prepared to contribute at the beginning of the season.

That hitch is pretty striking in his jumper.
