For those mentioning Community...I love that show, but it's doomed, gets crap ratings and looks sure to be canceled. Don't know why. It's awesome.
I don't know a damned thing about Justified, thig. I've never watched anything on FX before. How good is it, exactly? I know Bob and Dan are always prattling on about The Shield and Sons of Anarchy (which, btw, could not possibly have less interesting subject matter to me) but...I don't know. I have popped my cable tv cherry yet. Never watched any original series on TNT or FX or anything like that.

Community also does well in the younger demographic. Not saying it won't get cancelled, cause you never know. But I wouldn't say it is doomed. Even if it is, NBC won't pull it mid-season. It has developed a following - at the very least we will get to finish this current season.

I really like it, but it may not be everyone's cup of tea. I've never watched The Shield or Sons of Anarchy either.
BTW, if you've watched Breaking Bad then you've popped your cable cherry.

I don't watch it, but it's sad how many good comedies have suffered this fate over the past 8-10 years. Hell, even Parks got pushed back to a midseason start this year. That's never a good sign.

That's because Parks is horrible. And I cannot believe they kept it. My wife and I were horrified to see it was coming back in the winter. We were content thinking it had been cancelled.

I don't watch Parks either, so I have no comment on that. I just know a lot of people who like it (and a lot of people who like Community, too).
No accounting for taste, I suppose.

Are FX shows the same quality as breaking bad? If that's the case I will definitely give them a try...I was just under the impression that Breaking Bad was more...HBO quality than TNT/FX quality.
Speaking of which, watched Boardwalk Empire recently. Loved it.

Good news for Fringe fans. It looks like the move to Friday may be enough to sustain it for at least a 4th season.

I wouldn't say FX shows have quite the same depth of something like Boardwalk Empire. But I enjoy both Justified and The Walking Dead, both of which are on FX.

I would think anyone that enjoyed 24 would like The Shield and SOA. Both are high energy, action shows with alpha male main characters who can fight or think their way out of any situation. They also use plot twists to keep the tension at ice cream headache levels for most of the hour. IMO that works better when you're only doing 11 or 12 shows a season which is why I ultimately bailed on 24.
Both are quality show with good acting though. Especially in the case of The Shield when they bring in Glen Close and Forrest Whitaker at different points.

Walking dead is AMC, along with Mad Men and breaking bad.
I watch Always Sunny and Archer on FX. Both very funny.
Parks and rec was shelved to mid season because of poehler's pregnancy. As for whether it is good or not, I really like it. I posted about it earlier in this thread. I'll link to my comments when I find it. But basically, there was no bigger anti-poehler person than me, and I now love the show.

Crap. This shows how much I pay attention to things like this. My DVR records it and I watch it.

Here were my previous comments on Parks and Rec (from 9/21):
Quote:
Parks and rec improved leaps and bounds (like 10000%) in its second season, such that i would watch shows in that order (community, parks and rec, 30 rock, the office).
I gave it a shot its first season, mainly because it was only 6 episodes. Even though i probably hated amy poehler more than you. Believe me, i HATED her after watching SNL for over the years. with a passion. And the show was just ok.
Then i let the second season build up on tivo, wasn't planning to really watch them. Then a friend of mine told me how much it had improved, so i finally decided to watch a few one night. I ended up plowing through the 8 episodes i had on my TiVo. It was SO much better.
They changed poehler's character (less hyper, less plain stupid and a switch to just naive), but what really elevates the show is the supporting cast (specifically Nick Offerman, Aubrey Plaza, and Chris Pratt). Aziz Ansari was toned down a bit, too, and his character is so much better for it.
may be hard to just pick it up again in its 3rd season, but it's going to be delayed because of poehler's pregnancy. Worth checking out the second season on dvd.

Ever since the epic paintball episode, Community has been extremely hit and miss.

I definitely think they went off into excessive silliness the second season. Which isn't to say that I don't watch it, but you're right, the first season was better.
And that paint ball episode is still epic after many subsequent viewings.
At any rate the show is still better than Parks or Outsourced (or 30 Rock, IMO, but that's not a popular one...)

Hell yeah - I love that show!
(although I might be over-using the phrase "revenge anal" a little too much because of it...)

Without having read anything of the above, as I am really no TV guy, and most of the (good) US shows are not available over here anyway, I just watched the pilot of "The Big Bang Theory" on kino.to; These 20 minutes sure had a laugh-per-minute ratio beyond awesome! This might be due to my sharemate being a engineering student (one of the guys who will later on sit in porsche's development for sure) and me being a philologist who just spent his night watching the mavs on a crappy live stream while reading some aristotelean tragedy theory. Oh well.

Men of a Certain Age is a good show. But TNT is screwing it up having the "season" so short.
I think I watch more "cable" shows than I do network TV nowadays:
Breaking Bad
Justified
Sons of Anarchy
Man vs Food (that show makes me seriously hungry!)
Hoarders
Psych
Men of a Certain Age
I know I am missing a few. About the only two shows I watch on Network TV are Big Bang Theory and Parenthood.

Justified is a really good show. This week's season premiere was incredibly dark, AND it features the great Daniel Farraday in a role that I hope will be around all season.
Good stuff.

I've been a fan of Timothy Olyphant ever since he threw Sarah Michelle Gellar off a sorority roof in Scream 2.

Deadwood was kinda awesome.
As for totally awesome..Friday Night Lights. I am saddened to say that the series is over. It is easily a top 5 series all time for me... probably a top 3.
I'd probably have to go:
The Wire
Friday Night Lights
Lost

This show is hilarious. It's on the Science Channel on Saturday nights and was originally aired in the UK last fall. Basically, Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant (creators of The Office) send their close-minded, almost xenophobic buddy to see the 7 man-made wonders of the world, and hilarity ensues.

I don't think I have the Science Channel, but I'd love to watch that show. I do watch The Ricky Gervais Show religiously (new episode this week)!
