One of the areas I thought he could improve. The numbers from G league didn't initially translate. It was obvious to me his earlier 3 ball attempts had a lot of movement, specifically left to right, which is what shooters definitely don't want to see. I think Hardy is really settling in on the offensive side. Still some work on D, but his size and speed should allow him to become at least solid on that end in time.

Fast Break Points
Mavs 27
Jazz 4
The Mavs pace in this game seemed much faster than what is usual. Jaden and Josh had a lot to do with that. The two "Js". Reminiscent of the three "Js" from the Mavs past? Not ready to go there yet, but still an impressive performance.

ngl, kyrie and josh green pushing the floor for a bucket will be fun.
i hope kidd can figure out how to stagger kyrie and luka's minutes with the right pieces around each, of course most of their minutes will be together, but they have to take advantage of pace when luka sits

It seems a no brainer to start Green next to Luka and Kyrie for defense and uptempo offense. Sub Josh out first, then bring him back starting 2nd qrtr to run the offense for a bit until Luka returns.
Green hits 3s, hits FTs and moves the ball really well. Also a solid defender.

Would be nice to move THJ at the deadline. Once he gets the ball he is going to shoot a poor mid range shot or clank a 3 point attempt regardless of how many open guys there are around him. He doesn't seem to grasp the team concept whatsoever.

I wouldn't mind starting THJ one last time tonight and have him put up a rando 30 piece to make some buyer budge...we simply do not need his skillset now that we have Kyrie (just better than Spence and will play more minutes) and Green and Hardy have proven they are ready. If his role isn't at the very least reduced, that's a tough sell from the coaching staff and FO.

the real question:
Do we abandon the s#$%show GDT and make a custom. GDT for Kyrie's first game?
If so, who makes it?

THJ has been one of the worst shooters in the league this year. Putting him out there more to watch him ball hog and brick everything imaginable is hurting what little value he has.

All the same problems are back so I'm going back to this GDT unless someone else wants to make one.

Haha I'll make one. GDTs are my favorite to keep away from the other BS. Whether I get to watch and come back and see how people commented on the flow, or I didn't get to watch and get to see intricacies of how the game went along versus box score watching.
Feel like this thread was necessary prior to the deadline though, for sure.

Just hilarious how bad the defense is. Can?t even extend a lead on the worst record in the league

Again, we're going to win games with offense. You can forget defense.

Told y?all Holiday was a great pick up. He?ll bring veteran presence, 90% of DFS on defense, and 110% on offense.

Kyrie is a sight to behold with regards to his patience with the ball. His superstar quality is being able to levitate mid-air with the ball and shoot it over the defender.

An underrated aspect in watching this team last night was a little extra care with the ball. No idea on the numbers, just felt like Kyrie understands that importance of maintaining possession and getting good shots up each time down. Maybe rub off on others.

Hopefully on Luka.
Luka is a generational talent, but his penchant for destroying momentum with a poorly timed turnover or jacked three is becoming the story of his game.
Kyrie also has that fourth/fifth gear in terms of tempo, but also in terms of clutch performance. Luka always seems to play in first gear so hopefully Luka will either learn/evolve or Luka can defer to Kyrie.

For sure, saw some of that tempo in Luka at times last night. Tough to gauge against a bad team and sitting all fourth quarter. Green and his speed are what get a big bright light shining when they get using pace more. He's so damn fast.

Well and I hate to keep dragging this narrative on, but Luka looks the most out of shape that I can remember. He definitely doesn't carry his weight well (NBA standards-wise of course).
It all depends on how long Luka wants to play in this league. Lebron spends a shit ton of money and healthy eating/determination to be playing like he is at 38. Luka won't make it past 30 at this rate, and I'm being serious. Lack of NBA fitness almost always leads to injuries and his youth won't protect him from that forever.

I mean Luka can be as fat as he wants to be. We wouldn't be dragging him if he had the kind of star talent that Jokic has surrounding him. We just happen to have the worst supporting cast in the NBA. We have starters that when traded/waived, no one wants. That's the kind of level of talent we have.

Well it's a good sign that Luka only had to play 30 minutes last night. Without Irving, he is likely playing 40.
Then again, the Spurs might not win another game. I have a strange feeling they might be doing something devious to get Wemby.

I meant more in the realm of what EL picked up. General carelessness. They can be good overall all they want, too many times watching this team cough it up in terrible moments. Like, weird to have such an understanding of the game and BBIQ and then still commit stupid possession killing momentum.
For example, our two highest turnover totals in the last 20 games were wins. Not truly indicative of an outcome, more in the flow of watching the game and timeliness of them, especially when they are silly.

I?m not sure how a team that is bottom of the league in turnovers is generally careless.
If you mean that having an extra ball handler of Kyrie?s caliber will help in clutch situations, then yes. That?s why it was so catastrophic to lose Brunson.
A lot of the jacked threes and turnovers in the clutch this season are due to Kidd running the same play over and over. Even when it?s obvious the other team is sitting on it.

I didn't mean to move the goal posts, but you hit it with Brunson and Kyrie filling that void. I couldn't pin why it felt we were so awful and "careless" with the ball at times. Maybe not overall, but certainly in ways I mentioned in my 2nd post and how you put it.

Once Kyrie and Luka gel it?s going to be really tough for opposing defenses to cause turnovers, for sure.

Sunday's Lakers-Mavericks game is the second most expensive regular season Mavs game on record with an average purchase price of $390, according to @TickPick. The current ?get-in? price is $282, which is about 300% more expensive than the average "get-in" price for a Mavs game.

Holiday is starting over Green. Might irk some people, but now the bench finally looks half decent. Green, Tim, Wood, Morris, Hardy looks much improved.
