The third point guard WILL play on this team. They need to be a solid guy.

They're not that bad. I believe the play by play guy is from the Clippers. The color is a former Celtic spare (Michael Smith). Count how many times he shoe horns references to his playing career into the broadcast.
Hopefully Rick Kamla will be doing the game.

I didn't think NBA TV broadcasted in HD. If they do, they never mention it.
What did you have on?

Darius Washington dominated offensively last night with 24 points on 10-14 shooting, and along with Ager's 24 led us to a victory against the Spurs.
Powell still shows no offensive competence, and went 1-6 from the field, but pulled down 7 rebounds in 25 minutes.
Pops shot 50% from the field and made both FTs for 6pts, 3 rebounds in under 18 minutes.
Pittsnoggle shot 50% from three, for 7pts, 3reb
DJ Benga 9 pts (3-10FG), 4reb, 3ast, 2stl
Pavel played 7 and a hald minutes and picked up 1 rebound and 4 fouls.
Barea did not play, but wasnt on the roster?

I'm leaning towards waiving Powell. He has been given plenty of chances to prove himself, and he seems to come up short. What happened to his offense? I thought he used to have at least a decent offensive game last summer.

He left to join the Puerto Rican world championship team. I don't think he would have made the team anyway.
BTW, I didn't see you at the summer league game. Weren't you sitting behind the bench?

Is there something that makes you think he won't be invited to training camp?

He'll be invited to camp by us and by G.S. I just don't think he can play in the league until he developes a reliable jump shot. He shot a horrible percentage in college and he followed that up by shooting even worse in summer league (save for one game). He already has his height working against him. He may be an NBA level passer but it won't matter if teams just lay off of him.
I've only seem him play once (in the summer league game against Denver) and he looks like he has a little something. The Warriors may be able to develop him. I don't think we have that luxury.

It's hard to say how much of a jump shot a guy has to have these days with the new "hands-off" nba rules for guards. If the guy can get into the lane and disrupt things then he might be valuable. Maybe not championship "valuable" but pedestrian valuable.
I do agree that the mavs don't have much of a luxury to develop him however.

The Mavs may indeed have that luxury, especially if he offers something else in the meantime that is valuable. I remember Donnie saying recently that the Mavs "aren't afraid" to keep a young guy on the roster.
I could see him as a fireplug for a few minutes a game, while he works on his shooting.

Well...DA didn't necessarily play like a savvy veteran it seemed. A lot of turnovers for my taste.

With Marquis gone, we can't slide one of our two guards over to play the point. That third PG is going to be important unless Devin and JT can play 82 games.
Of the two GS summer league guards I'd prefer Will Bynum. He's not that great of a shooter either but because of his athleticism, I fell better about his ability to get to the basket and finish. Mind you, I wouldn't be thrilled with either option. I'm holding out hope for Chucky Atkins.
Maybe I'll see things differently after watching him play in the Salt Lake league.

The reviews I read of Bynum's play was that he just looked lost as a point guard.
Now, I was certainly impressed by Lucas!

Lucas looked like a seasoned pro out there didn't he? Not surprising when you consider that he practically grew up in a basketball camp. A friend of mine was doing some business with his dad a couple of years back and went down to Houston to check out the operation. He came back with stories of how organized it was. They're not just playing pick up games, they're running organized drills. Not to mention the competition. I heard on one of the summer league broadcast that right now Cassell, Mobley, and Daniel Ewing among others, are working out in Houston.
All that being said, everything I've read says he's signing with Houston.

That's good to hear about the camp in Houston. Doesn't Lucas also run a camp (maybe it's the same camp) for guys who have had drug problems? He's doing quite a service, to be sure.
Better watch out for that Houston team. Get enough talent in one place, and you never know what may happen.

I watched the first half of Dallas/Atlanta in the Rocky Mountain Review tonight and I'm more convinced than ever that Ager's going to be a player. He didn't shoot the ball well in this game (3-12) but you can just see it.
First of all, he carries himself like he's supposed to be there. You can't teach that.
He was really aggressive going to the basket and I saw a couple of things that will serve him well. He's really quick. Of course he's going to need to be at his height. He's listed at 6'5 but if he's 6'5 Rawle Marshall is 6'8. I think Ager is 6'4 tops. Still, like Mobley, his quickness and athleticism will allow him to play the position.
In addition to that quickness, he has excellent body control. Jazz analyst Ron Boone even mentioned it after he used his body to shield off Sheldon Williams and finish over him. Ager was called for an offensive foul but I didn't see it. There was another play where, from the wing, he beat his man to the baseline and instead of getting routed out of bounds, he was able to collect himself and explode up to finish the play. His game is tight, for lack of a better term. You can really see it when he shares the floor with Marshall who, while effective, is kind of wild assed.
He also had a missed dunk over Anthony Grundy that was nice enough to replay despite the miss.
On the down side, he struggled with his dribble on one play and it caused him to get his shot blocked. Needs to continue to work on the handles.
I don't know if he's better then our other options at the two. My hope is that Avery gives him a shot and doesn't bench him just because he's a rookie and probably wouldn't complain.

Well, it's better to spend two days in Vegas and not see Ager than to spend two days in Salt Lake City.
