You can knock on mine because I just like to make jokes (sometimes at the expense of throwing fuel on the fire)

Is there any way that you can put a specific thread on ignore? I still cringe when I read that someone actually is proposing this.

It's different from Oden, of course, in that our franchise cornerstone can actually play NBA basketball.

I didn't propose it or support it but it was worth talking about at the time. Potential vs. known happens all the time. We got our PG from a trade just like that. But yeah, looking back at it now, REALLY glad those that did want to do it didn't work for the front office. Really glad.

True, removing a horse cock for easy comparison to Oden's famous one would probably kill the horse.

Barea has midget bones; Oden has brittle bones.
The caveat here is that this is less about Oden's injury and more about his uncanny ability to suffer an injury every other time he plays a basketball game. Both Barea's height and Oden's fragility are intrinsic properties of the players' bodies, hence the reference.

That is an extreme reach. The comment, the comparison and the explanation.
Barea is short, he can't and will never be 6'7'', nothing about that is unfortunatly unlucky for him in the same way Greg Odens injuries were.
Oden can and most likely will be healthy. He has obviously had bad luck as a pro but his luck will change and he will be healthy but Barea will never be tall.

Right. Just like McGrady and Yao will definitely return strong in the indefinite future.
The term "injury prone" exists for a reason.

Different subject, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if this surgery fixes Yao's injury woes just like it did with Big Z. McGrady on the other hand is pretty much finished.

Here's the bottom line (for me): Portland would trade half its roster and their front office would jab hot pokers in theirs eyes if that would allow them to trade Oden for Durant right now. And that has nothing to do with injuries.
Everyone got hung up on the Oden hype, and he was never going to live up to it, injury or not, because he's not as good as people though. He's not offensively skilled enough to be dominant hall of fame big man.
He still has a chance to be a darn nice center, if he can ever stop fouling, and if he can ever stay healthy. But those are big ifs.

Here, let me draw it out for you:
If Oden hadn't injured his knee, then he'd be playing full time and he never would have injured anything else, and he'd be the all-star cornerstone of the perennial contending Portland Trailblazers, just like Bill Duffy told me.
and
If Barea was 6'7 then his court vision would open up and he would drive into the lane able to take advantage of any passing lane, his great and lengthy silver beard flowing behind him. He would be worshipped by the other leprechauns as the one who walks among the humans and showers of stars would shoot out his butt every time he dunked, just like Richard Katz told me.
. . . are really kinda the same thing because they start out with pretty shaky premises

The people who are arguing Odens injuries dont change his value ill ask you this(assuming you are a rangers fan too) Do you still value Brandon McCarthy the same way you did 3 years ago? Because thats what greg oden is, The nbas Brandon Mccarthy(or erick dampier with hands )

I thought your whole point is that Oden has always sucked and it wasn't cause of injuries that he sucked? I'm getting confused now.
Oden's injuries most certainly do change his value. The last joint you want to see injured in a basketball player is the knees. When those start wearing out, you can say bye-bye to your athletic ability. Maybe Oden can still recover and get back to where he was three years ago, but I'm a little skeptical.
Still doesn't change the fact he was a good player with loads of potential three years ago. He had one wrist injury at that point, but that didn't mean he was injury prone yet.

Hey, I'm just glad this board has TWO threads about a guy who doesn't play for the Mavs (and other than getting injured, hasn't done anything thread-worthy in his entire career).
Although I wonder how people with lives actually have the time to dig through 2 different threads that cover the same topic - isn't that more time-consuming than digging through one big thread?

Ah what could have been...

Hell, this kid could have turned out to be Erick Dampier with better hands if only he had stayed healthy. Now look at things - he can only dream to be Erick Dampier.

Was there really "a chance" or was it just talk anyway?
We would be a yearly lottery team right now if that took place.

Oden's value is low so now is the time to jump on it!
I mean, come on....we're talking about a franchise player for the next ten years once he comes back from injury. TEN YEARS!
