The Mavs just couldn't hit the broad side of a barn down the stretch. They had their chances.

That's my point. It's hard to be the only one who can score all night, every night and not be tired by the 4th. Terry is absolutely worthless lately. I think his hand is bothering him.

We were unlikely to get the 7th seed anyway. Utah was the one team we had a chance to pass but what makes it tough is that we have to have a better record than them not tie because they have tie breakers over us. Now with this loss it's pretty much a sure thing that we're the 8th seed.

Carlisle really did a poor coaching job tonight. Why stick with the 3 guard lineup when it clearly wasn't working? Poor rebounding and poor coaching killed the Mavs.

Wow...you can't live on shooting jump shots...
In the 4th quarter is when you have to drive to the hoop because its when your team is tired and those jump shots will not fall... sad effort.

I will be major pissed if Utah losses also.

Sure they had chances. And Longhorn and BG will tell me that the Mavs will have more chances to get out of the 8th spot.

Once again, the fact that the Mavs only have a couple guys who can hit an open shot consistently is killer. If either (or both) of those two guys are off, they stand no chance. And even when both guys are on, it's still fairly difficult.

Um, they do. I don't think it will happen, but I haven't thought they would for awhile. There's a difference between "they still have a chance" and "they will."

Wright is worse than almost anyone on offense. The fact that he starts for a playoff team is laughable. In a sad way.

When you, yourself, mention that this was another chance lost...aren't you buying into the fact they put themselves in a spot to get better, thus having another chance?

It's not weird we really needed his scoring game, because Terry forgot that he has to pick up the slack with Howard out because he was their in the last two games.

We got murdered on the O glass bc our guards can't box out. In 70 minutes, Terry and Wright combined for 2 defensive rebounds. Do you realize how staggering that is?

No, but I thought I made that pretty clear in the post I quoted. I have thought they would end up the #8 seed for at least a month. Just because I say "they still have a chance" doesn't at all mean that I think they actually would capitalize.

And they still do have a chance, but I still don't think they will capitalize.

Losing to a bunch of weenie scrubs shooting 20-footers all game when playoff seeding is (was) at stake usually burns pretty bad.

Carlisle relies on Barea just way too g*d d&mn much. Hollins plays like a beast for 2 games and can't even get on the g*d d&mn floor tonight? When the Mav bigs were in foul trouble?

Dirk is the only guy on the team that can score. Since Terry got hurt he is pathetic shooting the ball. Josh Howard as usual is a no show. Kidd can't make layups.

And this post will be edited because of the swearing.

It just sucks that the Mavs blow every g*d d&mn chance to move up in the standings. And they have not a snow balls chance in hell against the Lakers. But they keep f*cking up every time when they have the opportunity to move up.

we went from being a solid defensive team with good balanced offense with good shooting to a bad defensive team with a one sided offense and inconsistent shooting within 2.5 years....
the fact that josh was out so many games probably distorts the picture quite a bit but still...
our offense in the 4th was pathetic. kidd tries to avoid shooting and rather throws a blind pass into nowhereland instead of shooting an open jumper, wright cant hit a bus from point blank, damp just kinda stumbles about, terry runs around the perimeter and then we run dirk at a triple team and wonder why he doesnt make all the shots...

This is a bad loss for this club.

If the Suns win tonight they are only 3 back. We still play New Orleans twice (who are a terrible matchup for us), Utah, Houston and Phoenix with the Wolves mixed in. That's a pretty tough schedule for us. The 8th seed is everything but wrapped up right now. Thankfully all of those games but one vs. those contending teams are at home, which is great. If we played those on the road, I'd say we'd go 0-4 in those games.

The Suns on the other hand face the following teams (vs. Sac.. tonights game, @ Dallas, @ NO, @ Mem, @ Minn, vs. Mem, vs. GS) A much easier schedule.

I'm still very skeptical the Mavs make the playoffs.

I don't think Terry is healthy. He just doesn't look right to me.

And yeah, 2 scorers just doesn't cut it.

Yeah but you look at all those @'s for the Suns and all the home games for us. We're a pretty good home team just terrible on the road. They're 16-21 on the road. With a 4 game lead I think we should make it unless a terrible collapse happens. (which admittedly with all they've been through the Heat and GS nothing would surprise me)

Then again we're just going to get slaughtered by the Lakers anyway, maybe we should just let the Suns do that instead and go for the lottery.

I honestly don't know. I love playoff basketball, and it's true, anything can happen. But if the Mavs won a game vs. the Lakers I'd be pretty surprised. If Josh isn't healthy then, just fold up shop basically. I never thought I'd say this, but Josh Howard is absolutely needed on this team. It's like this with the Mavs.

as long as phx doesnt beat us at home there would have to be some freakish thing happening for them to catch us. assuming they win all other games they'd be 47-35 and we'd have to lose all other games to end up behind them since we'd hold the tiebreaker. i don't see that happening

I'd still take them in vs not getting in...even if it's a massacre. I'm not a Josh fan but if he's still a Maverick, he's a critical part to the lineup. He's the x-factor. If he's rolling, and brings another scorer, this team can compete.

phoenix is gonna win easily against Sacremento, they will probz drop 130 points tonite.
So Dallas will only be 3 games ahead of them.
And Phoenix is looking pretty good atm, so they could beat Dallas
And Dallas's shedule is amazingly hard, especially seeing that they cant even beat the Grizzlies
Its gonna be a tough battle to hang on to the 8th playoff spot

I'm mostly sad that this means we prolly wont get 50 wins this season. i really hope we get some good pieces in the offseason (of course we have no capspace so it'd have to be trades/sign and trades) but I'll take what we can. probably best to extend kidd by 1 year. we won't make it far into the playoffs until at the earliest 2011 though - aand that is IF and thats a BIG IF we get a major player next to dirk on this team (in his prime - Kidd is no question a great player but he is over the hill)

I feel sorry for Dirk. If he was smart, he'd opt out as quick as he can. The Mavs are rudderless right now. Same situation that Garnett was in....

The Mavs will win just enough to keep Phx at bay. They will lose just enough to not catch Utah.

btw what happend to damp after the first quarter? he scores 8 points in the first and then 2 in the second and then only fouls the rest of the way?
I don't get why hollins didnt get any minutes in the third when we were getting nothing other than dirk going. It's not like Marc Gasol is a 10 year veteran player that'd totally abuse him.

so sick that we lost this one.. minnesota almost beating utah, gs ahead against NO.... we are blowing it every single time. how many losses vs the worst 6 teams in the league do we have?
2-2 vs memphis
1-1 vs oklahoma
3-0 vs minnesota (so hopefully we wont blow that one)
3-1 vs clippers (whoo hoo)
3-1 vs sacramento
2-0 vs washington

14-5 against teams below 0.3 is not exactly stellar.

I didn't get to see the game. I would of thought the Mavs would pull this one out easily since were we supposedly "rolling". I see Dirk had a big night but JET is still in the shooting slump.. this sucks.

How many times have we had a chance to move up in the standings this season but never won?
Thankfully the T'wolves pulled it out tonight on the Jazz.
