Nice to see the show improving. I wasn't sold after the first couple stellar episodes of season 1. Enjoyed most of Season 2.
I really like how they establish characters and then murder them.

Pretty much.
Have you read the comics? I loved them for that very reason-- they'd kill even main characters without a blink which made it just that much more compelling than stories where you know the main guys are coming out alive.
Then again that ended up burning me out on the series. You can only watch 10-15 people you like die before you are just too depressed and unwilling to be involved that you can't keep interest.
The prison books were easily my favorite in the whole series until they leave. Such a cool story of intrigue and survival. Season 3 is going to be epic.
Plus Michonne is an incredible heroine and easily Rick/Shane's equal in badassitude.

So, I watched the first three episodes of Walking Dead tonight.
It's all right, but I don't know if I can take the drawls on everyone for too long before blowing my brains out.

What an odd complaint...
Would you prefer they have Northern accents?

All my shows are coming to an end or already ended, I'm going to go crazy with nothing to watch.
Walking Dead, It's Always Sunny, Dexter, Shameless, The River. I still have Eastbound & Down for a little while longer though.

I would prefer they have neutral American accents, like I do. Although it may become more entertaining now that I know that Rick's actor is English.

They're in Georgia - people do not speak with neutral American accents in Georgia...
And if you want to complain about something, the fact that there's only 1 black guy in the group when Atlanta is 60% black should be the first thing that stands out (oh, and anything that Lori does is a viable complaint too...)
If you hated the drawls in the first season, then you're really gonna hate the 2nd season when they spend all of their time on a farm with an extremely drawly farmer and his extremely drawly kids.
Personally, I like the authenticity - America is not California, no matter how hard Hollywood tries to force that notion upon us.

Yeah - of all the complaints I've heard about Walking Dead, not liking the accents has to be up there with the most ridiculous.
Also, only rick, Shane, and Daryl have the noticeable accents of the main crew. Everyone else is pretty normal (except for the season 2 farm people).
Next season should be a good one. Will be interesting to see how Michonne plays out. Her character is more comic-booky than the rest.

Only at the beginning when she has her "pet" zombies - her use of the katana has a fairly plausible backstory (at least in the comics, anyway...)

Exactly. No, not everyone in say, Atlanta has a thick accent. But I don't think these people are even from there (wasn't it an outlying town)? A lot of people in Georgia do have a twinge of an accent. For the most part, there is no "neutral" American accent. Linguists claim that Mid-Westerners come the closest.
And as Baseline said, they don't all have a "drawl" anyway. Carol, Lori, T-Dog, Andrea, Carl, and Glenn clearly don't.

True - and if we already believe that the current characters can hit zombie after zombie with headshots, even while in a moving vehicle, we can believe someone with advanced sword skills.

exactly. their accuracy with shooting from a moving vehicle was almost as preposterous as a zombie apocalypse.

It really wouldnt have made a big difference at all if they had hit some in the thigh or chest and just staggered them for the most part. Its not like they really did more than just slow the herd. Im not sure why every shot was a headshot or why Herschel and Glen's shotguns had the same impact as the handguns either. It didn't bug me too much though.
Anyway, the show has done a decent job of weaving the new into the comics and there is plenty of personality with Mischonne along with her utter awesomeness. I even wonder if she will take over as the second pillar of the show so Darryl can stay a free radical. With Merle returning, the _____ may hit the fan with him. He's either coming out a solid hero or else a villain. Darryl is easily the greatest character on the show but may not be a good foil or second pillar the way Shane/Tyreese/Abraham were in the comics.
I just hope that we see less whiny, annoying Lori and way more adventure/survival/discovery. The prison books had a ton of that which is what makes S3 so promising. I like seeing developed characters and I want Walking Dead to be about people surviving disaster and not just silly zombie pulp, but the melodrama got a bit much at times in S2.

On the contrary, the "drawls" aren't good enough. I live in Kentucky, just like Shane, Rick and his family before the attack. He doesn't sound anywhere near as redneck as people from here really sound.

If anyone wants to read the comics for free, check out your local public library for the collected editions. Worked for me.

Yeah many libraries have the trade paperbacks or the larger collections in hardbound editions. They aren't terribly expensive either if you want to get em on Amazon.
basically you can get
"comics"-- obviously just one issue at a time. Not a cost effective way to go, and not terribly collectible
"books" -- 12issues-- BEAUTIFUL and collectible. They are remastered and in sturdy hardback
"compendiums"-- 48 issues/4 books. They are crappy quality but they are a cheap way to get the entire series. Good if you just wanna buy/read/sell em.
You can probably get digital copies around in both legal/illegal ways too. I'd probably read the first 12 issues and decide if its something youd like to skim or something you'd want on your shelf.

Very quickly catching up on Mad Men, and I'm amazed that it's taken until March of 2012 for me to discover the absolute wonder that is Alison Brie. I don't watch Community, either, so I was totally unaware that such an utter goddess of beauty graced this earth. Seriously, the most mesmerizingly pretty woman I've ever seen in my life. And her Twitter feed makes it worse. I want to have her.
... I think I'm in love.

Community is one of my favorite shows on TV right now, and possibly in my top 10 ever. It's very quirky, some people don't like that. Just a warning if you're one of those people.

I've been told by countless people in whom I trust deeply that I would adore it. I just don't watch TV shows on regular TV, and so since it's never been on Netflix I've never gotten around to watching it.

Eight episodes in now. Oh, how I love ironic dialogue-driven humor. This is magic.
“Your song? We wrote it together. Are you trying to Garfunkel me?”
“Maybe? Assuming to Garfunkel someone is to keep putting up with them, even though they’re a fat lazy cat who hogs the spotlight and eats all the lasagna.”
Also, I was totally unaware that the whole Internet was in love with Alison Brie. I feel really late to the party, but at the same time my love is totally legitimate because I wasn't doing it just to be cool. My feelings are true. Hopefully she'll understand this when I ask her to marry me.

Doesn't matter how late you are as long as you make it. Abed is probably the best character ever, and he showed a serious personality flaw last episode. I like the direction this second half of the season is going so far.
Omgz, found an ultimate Community thread.

Lillyhammer the Netflix original is funny I thought. I watched the whole season in like three days. Community is a no brainier. If only they would have used Theo to make a Gordan Gartrelle joke.

Okay, I just finished season one. I'm not ashamed that it only took two days.
The characters... they're all so wonderful. Except Shirley. And Britta. Take 'em or leave 'em. But yeah, the other five are great.
Paintball episode. So wonderful. Troy and Abed. So wonderful. Annie. So... whatever is beyond wonderful, because she's so laughably, ridiculously hot in a way I can't even put into words.
Season two will have to wait until Saturday. I have a gig at the Frisco Arts in the Square Festival Saturday morning and need to do some songwriting tomorrow and Friday.

Britta gets a lot better in season 2. She basically goes from being the hot chick that Jeff wants to sleep with (and she's really not all that hot - attractive, yes, but not super hot) to a huge butt of a ton of jokes.

Two things I've noticed so far:
1) This show constantly brings up older episodes and recurring themes, not very common in sitcoms ("Baggel!").
2) It selectively uses slapstick, virtually exclusively with one character (Pierce). The humor isn't based on slapstick (does anyone actually want to see The Three Stooges?), but stuff like Pierce randomly knocking all of the champagne off the table or the desk collapsing underneath the poor student complements the wit very well.
And I couldn't resist, so I'm watching season 2. Annie got hotter. And more boob-focused. Not fair.
EDIT: Stop motion Annie? Not hot. I had hopes.

Okay, after six days, I'm caught up with Community completely. Can't wait for the conclusion to Blanket Fort v. Pillow Fort.
I love how this show responds to itself. The writers, for example, realized that Jeff + Britta wasn't working out as a primary arc and so changed to give Annie that role and turned Britta into, yeah, the butt of everyone's jokes and the sex partner of a corporate humanoid.
Also, there's a rumor today that Chevy Chase doesn't want to come back for season four, assuming it happens. The only thing I would miss from this would be when Bill Murray or Dan Ackroyd makes a cameo as Jeff's dad and that interplay. His character has otherwise completed its arc.
Cool. Cool cool cool.
Oh, also, I have a confession. My college apartment experience featured four bedrooms and three people living in them. The fourth room was an empty bedroom. We used it as a Dreamatorium.

losing Chevy Chase would not be good. Replacing him with anyone less than Bill Murray would feel inadequate (to me).
