Hate what Lamar Odom has shown this season, but the Mavericks badly need him back. We can't put Cardinal and Yi out there as backup power forwards. Odom, even if uninspired, taking stupid shots, and playing outside of the offense is still just so much more skilled than our two backups that he's really needed.
Sad to see the Mavs playing so crappy right now really hope they can end this slump tonight. Things were looking so promising before the all star break and that Lakers loss.

@EKS_MavsNBA: The Mavericks have officially recalled Lamar Odom from the D-League. He will suit up tonight vs. the Jazz.

I really kind of hate that the mavs seem desperate and have to turn to lamar...but maybe odom needs a sense of need to feed him.. I expect the last 2 weeks has been pretty cathartic for him.

I agree! What is the point of going through the red tape they did by sending him to D-League to just recall him before he even played one single game? Really the 2-6 seeds in the West are clumped up. Even if we were to lose tonight without him what would it really hurt? Are we certain to win with him? How does it affect the locker room?
THIS IS REALLY JUST TOO MUCH DRAMA! I am one of those that believes people should be able to grieve however they need and just because he has money or a contract to live up to just doesn't change the fact that he is hurting inside and may need a break. However, a break is not what he wanted. He wanted to go back to L.A. I understand wanting to be in your "own space". But, his "Kardashian" family has all been here at some point...more here than L.A. and that's part of the business. I'm glad Cubes didn't let him out...EITHER STAY HERE AND PLAY "AS YOU REQUESTED OR SIT AT HOME and make no money. They need to start fining him for missed games and not meeting expectations. Let him start losing money for not scoring double digits or for not pulling down at least 6-8 boards a game and lets see if he starts playing like Carlisle said "like his shorts are on fire."

Maybe the Mavs want and need him back helps him. And i hope he knows that this is his last chance, one good game won't change much. He just needs to give consistent effort, i can live with bad shooting nights or not so great stats if the effort is there!

Bucher now reporting Odom wants to go back to LA (in the video in the link below).
http://espn.go.com/dallas/nba/story/...-their-support
I'm not sure about the timing. Was this the original issue and it is only surfacing after he's returned to Dallas and sorted it out or is it something new cropping up.. either way, looks like LO is done after this year. 3D, Cubes, 3D!!

He was reaching for something to write, it was a boring Monday. Who wants to read about Lin or Rondo again or about Wade putting all his energies into whining about a non - call yesterday, and not having the mental fortitude to fight through it, instead of shows the refs a foul....3 times in 3 minutes. To me it's LA and it's what sells.

Thought so. Still, an interesting tidbit on his "personal" problem.
Also practically ensures Odom is one and done even if 3D doesn't materialize.

Odom's buyout next season, doesn't it work similarly with like Stack's Chip. Where it was a 2 million buyout with 8 million salary and the salary can be moved in full.

Good point. On paper, that's how it could work (assuming no sneaky clauses).
However, that's only a legit move if you can add salary, which the Mavs don't want to do. If 3D fails, they could use it for something else.

The difference is that Stack's final year didn't become fully guaranteed until well into the season. So you had a lot of time to decide what to do with the contract.
Odom has to be decided on by the end of June.

Odom still sucks. Just saying.
He should give us some Bass, Humpries, Gooden...basketball. 2 rebounds and 6 points in 24 min is a joke.

i think the decision-date can be moved back if the player and the team want that. would give dallas some more time to operate and Lamar a more realistic chance to be traded to a contender instead of a lottery team.

Cuban and Odom getting into it during last nights game. Tweet from a NY Daily News journalist.
"Lamar Odom getting into it with Mark Cuban. The owner had the nerve to ask Odom to hustle. Lamar didn't like that"; Frank Isola (@FisolaNYDN)
I don't see him here past the trade deadline. Or that's my hope at least..

NY Daily News is a glorified gossip rag. Somebody else probably would have reported on this if it actually happened that way.

Like i said in an earlier PGT, Lamar Odom will not change. Whatever it is, this is how its gonna be. He will not get some enlightenment all of a sudden, and begin playing with fire in his pants.
What we see from him is what we're gonna get. Right now the only reason he is here is for depth. We need him as a body for Dirk to get rest. Anything passed that is considered a success for the night.

I seem to remember people saying similar things about JET last year...
Your premise of Lamar not changing is horribly flawed, being that there has been a clear change from last year to this year. So change happens. The notion that human behavior is fixed in some artificial vacuum is completely disprovable by even the most cursory analysis of basic human psychology.
Dirk changes for the playoffs, getting to the rim more, Kidd looks to score more, even Barea changed his game as the season progressed last year. Being that Lamar's problems seem to be psychological from most of the reports and interviews I've read, there is really no way to forecast what will happen. His skillset hasn't diminished, nor has his size, so all that is required for him to do to turn things around is a mental adjustment, albeit a significant one. If that happens, I think that many fans will come to appreciate what he can bring. If it doesn't, then your view of him being just a body to give Dirk rest will be accurate.

Odom is a very sensitive, crowd boos, rides him, he don't like it, his grip of the ball becomes tighter, over thinks things. He needs to learn to shut everything down and just play basketball. Forget Cuban, forget the crowd, just play basketball.

I dont even care if his offense is off. He just needs to play at least half as hard as Cardinal and I'd be ok with him.

Wow...that sequence that made cubes pissed at lamar is pretty bad.
http://espn.go.com/blog/dallas/maver...ner-mark-cuban
"With about 2:45 left in the quarter, Odom let his man, Tyson Chandler, drift behind him to the basket. Chandler received the pass and had a clear path for a dunk until Shawn Marion slid over, contested at the rim and forced Chandler to miss the two-handed dunk attempt. The rebound bounced out to Jason Kidd at the free throw line, who pushed it up the floor.
Odom jogged upcourt and made it only to the top of the arc by the time Kidd dished to Jason Terry on the wing. Without hesitation, Terry misfired on a 3-pointer. Odom started to backpedal as Terry launched the shot. Carmelo Anthony rebounded and handed the ball off to Jeremy Lin. Odom had already retreated beyond mid-court and back near the 3-point arc, yet Landry Fields ran right by him, caught a long, two-handed pass from Lin and soared in for the easy layup.
Coach Rick Carlisle instantly called a timeout as Cuban rose to his feet and emphatically jabbed his right arm and looked to have flung some choice words in Odom's direction. Odom, cradling the basketball in his right arm, slowly walked to the bench as he appeared to fix his gaze toward Cuban. "

I'll retract my suspicion of the NYDN tweet since this is now being reported by other sources. I will not, however, retract my statement that the NYDN is a gossip rag.
