UGH I am so disappointed the Mavs did not get Jennings. At least its for one year but man. He wont be able to put up huge numbers either with what they will have on the court. Hopefully the Mavs can acquire him at some point.

We still need someone who can get to the rim. Harris/JJ cant do it all.

@WojVerticalNBA: Sources: One early possibility for Caron Butler, who @ShamsCharania reports has been waived in Sacramento: A return to the Miami Heat.

Did Memphis just slide into being a top 4 seed in the West w/ + Parsons and OKC drop off? Top 3 are obviously GS, SA, LAC 4th seed I guess would be Memphis or Portland.

Where does OKC fall to? They still got Westbrook, Adams, Kanter, maybe a 6th seed.

On paper and if healthy, they certainly should be. If.

Really like Zaza-- solid Human being and teammate.

Just hated how Rick played him so much and how he had to be our starting center. It just goes to show how untalented we were. We got him for nothing and when he left he only got 2.89 mill in an age of spares getting 7-14 a year.

As a backup he'll be solid. He just can't play major minutes and his lack of defense and Tim protection hurts. Then again, it's the Warriors. They'll let you score 110 and they'll score 123

Ridiculous all of the flack KD is getting. Many people have been saying for years that he and Westbrook need a split. I actually think it will help Westbrook as well.

And he just guaranteed himself a ring. If he had stayed in OKC, then you're going against a hungry Warriors team that wants revenge against Cleveland....AND a Spurs team that now has Pau. Sorry, but GS was an easy decision.

Obviously sucks for OKC fans, and they have every right to be upset. But putting emotions aside, this makes all the sense in the world for Durant.

It's easy to hate the guy who just made rooting for the other 29 NBA teams absolutely meaningless.

It sucks for Spurs, OKC, and Cavs fans, sure, but the rest of the league wasn't winning it all anyway. GS was/is a powerhouse with or without Durant.

I just don't get why people would be upset that a superstar wanted to join a better team. This won't be the last time it happens, either.

Warriors aren't as good as people think. Bogut was essential to their defense along with Green. More shooters doesn't equal more shots. Defense and rebounding will be way more of an issue. It'll be impossible to defend them but a strong rebounding team with enough offense (like the Spurs, Cavs, and ironically-- last year's Thinder team) have/had a real chance.

I respected KD's decision to leave Westbrook. He probably wasn't getting a championship with a guy who literally needs the ball at all times to be successful and doesn't always provide a positive influence. Going to the Warriors for a cheap championship is pretty classless. I used to respect KD a lot more than I do now

I have absolutely no problem with KD leaving. He was never going to win a championship with Westbrook. Presti babied Westbrook and probably shouldve traded him for someone who complements KD.

But you were minutes away (game 6) from knocking off the greatest reg season team of all time, choke away a 3-1 lead, and join the team that was themselves 1 game away in the finals from b2b titles. Any ring he gets with GS has minimal value and he's lying to himself if he thinks it means the same as winning one with OKC. He latched onto a train that has 2 of the top 3/4 shooters in the league. Total punk move. I have way more respect for Lebron and his decision to leave CLE.

I think it says ALOT about Russ relationship with KD that he wasnt in the meeting with Thunder. Theyre reporting on Cowherd there was tension in their relationship (obviously if you watch the NBA you can see it).

Cant really blame the thunder because they made every move possible to keep KD happy. Now it's the beginning of the end for them for awhile.

@ESPNSteinLine: The Nuggets' two-year offer to Dwayne Wade is north of $50 million, according to league sources, with Denver still hopeful Wade accepts it.

Don't understand this unless they're just trying to fill up cap space, it's not like Wade makes them a contender, if he ends up there it's purely for money but I think he stays in Miami.

Denver still needs to come up with about $30m in salary to hit their cap minimum.

That's what I figured.

So what would happen if a team doesn't hit the cap minimum?

All the players on that team get a one-year raise to hit the cap floor, although I have no idea how the money is distributed.

I don't begrudge Durant for his decision. He can play wherever the hell he pleases. But it disappoints me to see it as NBA fan, because in my view the game just got a lot less competitive and therefore less interesting. My favorite storyline since the Mavs' championship victory was the emergence of a palpable, heated rivalry between the Warriors and the Cavs. I was also really interested to see if OKC could get over the hump and stop the Dubs from dominating the western conference. I guess I'm just not a fan of "superteams" because I like not knowing who's going to win.

I guess I'm just not a fan of "superteams" because I like not knowing who's going to win.
This is pretty much entirely how I feel. I don't blame Durant because GS plays the game the right way in the way they share the ball. I can see why that would be appealing to other players. I think the call with The Logo is what put KD over the edge. He explained how playing with them how showcase his other talents not just scoring. I just found out KD led OKC in rebounds last year at 8+ per game. It just sucks because it's a given who the final 2-3 teams are going to be the next few years. Super teams are the future and if you don't have that superstar (or 2-3) you have no hope of competing. I love basketball, but once Dirk hangs them up I can't promise I'll be watching near as much.

I think it gives teams a reason to try to take down that superteam though. Gives the league a sense of purpose much like when everyone hated the Heat with James. And who beat that team the first season they formed? What is better than beating the unbeatable team?

I guess I just don't care where KD plays if he isn't on the Mavs. And rumors and whispers of him joining the Warriors had been going on all season long. I'm just not a bit surprised at it.

There is just too damn much smiling and hugging after games win/lose. All of that friendliness is blurring the lines that used to be there about going against the best, because now they want to play with the best(if money is the same).

Really hope Wade leaves Miami and Whiteside rethinks his move.

I wonder if Malone, Barkley and Ewing would agree with your notion that "trying to beat an unbeatable team" gives you a sense of purpose? Hell, I stopped watching basketball in the 90s because seeing Jordan dominate the league got boring after a few years (and I wasn't even a Mavs fan back then so I had reason enough to watch).

KD to GS is even worse than LeBron joining up with Wade and Bosh in Miami -- those guys never played with each other before, whereas Durant just joined a trio of champions who have been playing together for years... It's more like if LeBron had decided to join the Spurs, in which case, Dirk almost certainly wouldn't have a ring. Kinda changes your perspective a bit when you consider what would have been lost if LeBron pulled what Durant just pulled.

Imagine if Whiteside rescinded and signed with Dallas, which could only happen if the Mavs rescinded on Bogut, which would keep Golden State from being able to sign Durant... Total chaos.

I would love to see this just to watch the chaos unfold.

Sort of agree, sorta not. I like the concept of parity, but in my opinion it produces a lot of mediocre basketball.

The same "elite-team" situation existed in the late-70s/early-80s. The Finals was going to be the Lakers coming out of the West (challenged and defeated by the Rockets, and challenged to a lesser extent by teams like Phoenix, Portland, San Antonio and Dallas); and a dog-fight in the East between Philly and Boston (challenged nominally by Nellie's perpetual also-ran Bucks). And those Lakers-Sixers-Celtics rivalries are regarded as one of the best eras in NBA history.

The Bulls of the 90s were an absolutely dominant team, but once they defeated Daly's Piston teams, they never had that rival who could actually knock them off their pedestal. In MJ's Bulls era, there was never the situation where the Bulls had to come back a season after having been defeated in the Finals. They had their rivalries, but there was never the back-and-forth that created dramatic tension from year to year. It became pretty obvious that Jordan's team was always going to win, and that the Finals were just a stage on which for him to perform.

There are a couple of differences now: 1) league expansion, which dilutes elite talent by spreading it over about half-again as many teams; 2) salary cap, which makes it more difficult to stockpile elite talent. What this means is that players are creating the super-teams in shorter time-frames (and for shorter durations) via free agency decisions, rather than having GMs draft, trade and sign. Does the fact that players are creating the super-teams now make it less satisfying? Maybe. The rivalries do seem more short-lived, and less dynastic. In other words, parity. I can't imagine the league will ever contract--with multi-billion dollar franchise values, there is just too much money in playl.

To me, it seems like even as the individual skill level of players has soared, the level of play has plateaued, and the overall intensity of competition has plummeted. I'm less interested in pro ball now than at any time in the last 30 years.

What will finally kill my interest in the NBA altogether is the insane contracts currently being handed out to 3rd-, 4th-, and 5th-tier talents. I have zero interest in supporting those contracts with higher cable prices or higher ticket prices.

I wonder how close Wase is to leaving. Mike Miller is recruiting him to Denver who is offering the most money and they are good friends apparently. Butler and Rondo want him in Chicago and they are offering a 3rd year. The Bucks are going to get a meeting with him. Clev wants him, but can only ot like $3 mil. That'd be a huge slap in the face to Riley if he accepted that deal.
