Yep - just waiting for a good pic with Magloire in a Mavs uniform so I can finish my new sig (it features our primary rotation - I was waiting for a player to replace Devean George in that lineup...)

I agree with you. IMO the best way to guard Duncan is to make him work on the deffensive end of the court, thus leaving him less energy for offense and if you're real lucky getting him in foul trouble. Sounds like Magloire is head and shoulders better suited for this than Diop.
But we're talking about a backup center. Let's face it the bar is set pretty low for success there. Diop became a legend on just a few successful plays. If all Magloire gives us is decent defensive resistance on opposing big men, it's a great deal for us. Any thing above that is gravy.

This is all you need to know about Magloire: he's better than using Bass as our backup center...

This is a good thing having Bass in at center sometimes though. Like last night when they had Gooden at center. Damp couldn't stop him because he's too quick and so much smaller. Bass would have been perfect for that situation.

I thought Chicago purposely subbed in Gooden to abuse Bass. The radio guys were not thrilled about that matchup.

I'd argue that Damp was quite a bit better than Diop against Duncan as well. Hell, Damp started Game 7. Not only that, but Damp was the one who got to D up Duncan on the final play of regulation in Game 4 in Dallas. He pushed him all the way out to the FT line and forced him to miss the buzzer beater. Mavs go on to win in OT.

Kidd racked up most of his triple doubles early on in the season. When they hit a tailspin, he started to think about himself, requesting a contract extension, requesting the trade. Look at the Sunday game against the mavs, triple double basically convincing Cuban to pull the trigger, when he wants to , he will be there.....it can be said of most of these over paid stars. I compare this to when VC got to NJ, Kidd missed about the first 20 games that year due to microfracture. By April, they strung together enough wins to earn an 8th spot by game 81 or 82. The Nets were 3-10 to start that season. When these stars are on, they are on, when they don't feel like playing, like VC this year, since he inked his contract, he hasn't done as well as last year. Kidd will be fine......though, Hollinger did predict a 41-41 record for the nets a year ago.

My lasting impression of Diop for that entire series was him taking a Duncan elbow to the face (which broke his nose) and still standing strong to force a Duncan miss. And I also remember Mr. Injury-Faker going nuts on us that entire series.

I'm not saying Diop was bad. I'm saying his performance has been overrated.
Nobody stops Duncan. Nobody. Diop did an ok job, Damp did an ok job. I thought Damp did an ok job more often, though.

Or Magloire, is big and strong enough to actually cause some damage, he'll get 6 chances a night to do that. An elbow here, a hip check there, a shove there, a knee there, takes a toll on the body. Geez, Kobe has Kidd to thank for his injured pinkie.

This is what you call and all star lineup...
PG - Kidd
SG - Howard
SF - Walker
PF - Dirk
C - Magloire
Nice bench too... Damp, Terry, and Stack.

This Magloire signing really takes a whole lot of pressure off the Mavs. We go a legitimate 9 deep now (if you still count Bass, who will hopefully get to play in a role better suited for him).

Have you even SEEN Walker play? He is quite possibly the worst use of talent in the history of the NBA. He can't shoot, he no longer boards, he never could play defense, and his shimmy is annoying as hell. I wouldn't trade a popsicle for that spare, and if he ever wore Maverick blue again I would vomit all over the arena all thanks to me drinking for weeks on end.

Magloire will be more than sufficient. Almost every player that plays with a better team plays better for the better team as a better player.

Honestly I'm just waiting for Kidd to turn Bass into '03-'04 Kenyon Martin.

If I'm not mistaken, that's in about 11 minutes of playing time. For comparison, that's about 8 ppg, 15 rpg per 48 minutes.

Dallas Mavericks to sign Jamaal Magloire
06:26 PM CST on Tuesday, February 26, 2008
By EDDIE SEFKO / The Dallas Morning News
esefko@dallasnews.com
Veteran center Jamaal Magloire will be signed by the Dallas Mavericks after he clears waivers at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
The 6-11 former Kentucky standout has agreed to sign a one-year contract for the veteran's minimum salary of slightly over $1 million, NBA sources said Tuesday afternoon.
Magloire was waived by the New Jersey Nets on Friday and should be in uniform when the Mavericks visit San Antonio on Thursday. Although he played sparingly for the Nets, Magloire as recently as 2005-06 was a full-time starter and averaged better than nine points and nine rebounds per game while playing for Milwaukee.
The Mavericks developed a need for a backup big man behind Erick Dampier when DeSagana Diop was included in the trade for Jason Kidd.
The Mavericks still have one roster spot open and are holding that open in case either Brent Barry or Sam Cassell agree to join them.

No way. Magloire is a former All-Star. Damp hasn't even come close to making on the All-Star team. It's an easy decision who starts.
