Saw this posted on reddit and thought y'all might appreciate it - a summary of his greatness. Would post the image directly, but too lazy to resize.

That Mister Europa award clinched it for me.
Be sure to add "player of the year" or "basketball" to a Google search...

Mister Europa is a very prestigious award, no need to make a joke about it.

Labeling him as a choker was probably one of the most ridiculous thing ever in sport history. He is literally the complete opposite of that, and was even before 2011. A handful of bad games out of hundreds, and he got that label. Meanwhile some other player who has terrible elimination stats compared to other all-time greats, gets labeled as the "assassin". Just utterly ridiculous, and obviously goes beyond the sport itself."

Marketing is not really needed. Most of you know it from db.com already
But there is no forum archive and it would be sad if this link gets lost...that's why i posted it here, too.

Well without a title, presentation or prior knowledge I would never have clicked on it.

I don't blame the fans as much as I blame the narrative based propaganda of sports media. ESPN harms legacies and spits on the hard work of dedicated players with a combination of misinformation and low rent sensationalist journalism the likes of which belongs in a $2 tabloid magazine.
Unfortunately they are able to frame majority opinion with this slop. Even more tragic when you consider the agendas at work in the media when it comes to social and political issues. Thank goodness for the internet, though it can be a cesspit that acts as a purveyor of ignorance, it is also a bastion of free thought and research free from the constraints of mass media.
Anyway I'll stop spewing the BS. Great analysis, just more evidence of how fortunate we Mavericks fans have been. Here's hoping for more clutch playoff performances this year.

hilarious video
Dirk Nowitzki gets pretty excited on game days
short video link http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.c...medium=twitter
The Mavericks do one of the best jobs in the league of making entertaining videos promoting their team, and this one featuring an overly-excited Dirk Nowitzki is no exception.
In an ad for Mavs season tickets, Dirk rolls through the office like a madman trying to get everyone to guess what day it is — of course, they already know, but that doesn’t derail his enthusiasm in the slightest.

Dallas Mavericks' Dirk Nowitzki spoofs a Geico commercial.

Dirk Nowitzki Playing 5-on-5 Before Training Camp for First Time in Years
by: D.J. Foster
http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.c...time-in-years/
15 seasons. Over 45,000 minutes of regular season and playoff minutes. International play. Training camps. Practices.
That’s a lot of miles on the old odometer, but that’s not stopping Dirk Nowitzki from getting acclimated to his new teammates.
After all, there’s only so much time Nowitzki has left in his career, and after the Mavericks balked at the chance to rebuild, both Nowitzki and the Mavs are all-in on the present. That means guys are ramping up a little earlier than usual.
“He is playing 5-on-5 with the guys,” owner Mark Cuban said. “(That’s) something he hasn’t done in years. Actually, all you need to know is that he’s talking about possibly playing more internationally. I don’t think he’s doing it just to make me mad.
“You never know in this business. But he looks good.”
Via Eddie Sefko of the Dallas Morning News.
It’s good to hear Nowitzki is feeling up to the challenge of carrying the Mavericks, because he’ll have to do just that if Dallas wants any chance at the playoffs this season.
Nowitzki missed the first 26 games of the season last year after knee issues flared up in training camp and preseason, but both he and the team appear confident that no health problems will arise this season. The extra time on the court with the newly signed backcourt of Monta Ellis and Jose Calderon is important, but working with Samuel Dalembert on their back-line defensive chemistry might be even more critical.
We know Nowitzki will score in a ridiculous fashion, but what we don’t know is how the Mavericks can hold up defensively this season. Calderon and Ellis are swinging doors on the perimeter, and Nowitzki, while crafty with his strips in the post, isn’t as mobile as he once was.
Can a team with so many aging veterans cobble together a defense that’s at least league average? Right next to Nowitzki’s health, that’s the biggest concern this season. But at least on Nowitzki’s front, it’s so far, so good in Big D.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
And this was one of the comments to the article from 'sportsfan18
I agree that Dirk doesn’t get the respect he deserves. I’m a Bulls fan but I’m a basketball fan too…
Dirk has a higher career PER than Kobe. Dirk is currently in 19th place ALL TIME on the list of highest PER’s in the NBA.
Assuming he’ll decline some as he ages and depending on how many more yrs he plays, let’s say he drops to like 25th all time in PER.
He’s currently 21st all time on the NBA scoring list. With just a decent season, he’ll move up to around 15th place this season. With another decent season the yr after this coming season, he’ll be around 8th place or so.
He has a great chance 3 seasons from now of becoming just the 7th man ever to score 30,000 points in the history of the NBA.
So you’re looking at what will be a top 10 all time scorer and it’s more likely he’ll end up around 6th place or so when he retires as well as a player who will end up around 25th all time in PER.
RIGHT now, Dirk has more win shares than Kobe even though Dirk has only played 39,975 minutes to Kobe’s 45,390 min’s in their careers.
I’m NOT putting Kobe down, it’s just that folks don’t realize just how good Dirk is and again, I’m a Bulls fan.
Dirk has a great true shooting percentage too as he shoots the 3 pt shot well, over 38% for his career (above the great Larry Bird’s career 3 pt percentage) as well as having a higher career true shooting percentage than Bird too.

Excited about new season. Go Dirk, go Mavs!

You know, I've seen a number of people on this board that are under the impression that Dirk isn't playing well (Erica said he's had a "lethargic" start). And that's simply not true. People need to start taking a look at Dirk's effect and build realistic expectations based on his age, role on the team, etc. Right now Dirk is putting up a line of:
19/6/3 with a 62% TS. 21.9 PER, 122 ORtg, 106 DRtg, .216 WS/48
That's actually pretty darn impressive vs. what you should expect. And I'm here to tell you right now, if you're expecting more from a 35 year-old Dirk playing 30-33 MPG, then you're in for some serious disappointment.
Let's compare Dirk's current numbers to KG and TD at age 35.
Duncan: 15/9/2 with a 53% TS. 22.5 PER, 108 ORtg, 99 DRtg, .174 WS/48
KG: 16/8/2 with a 55% TS. 20.4 PER, 106 ORtg, 94 DRtg, .178 WS/48
As you can see, he's doing better than both overall. KG and TD obviously had a greater defensive effect, while Dirk has had a (much) greater offensive effect. Right now Dirk is shooting at an unsustainable clip from three, but he's also shooting well below his average from inside the arc. I expect both to even out a bit.

Seriously? With all the muck that was thrown, I'm the example? There were three pages of Dirk debate and I said that Dirk was still a little sedate early on as the team learns the offense.

Erica,
I didn't mean to explicitly call you out. It was just a quote that stood out in my mind while writing the post. Of course other posters said far more egregious things. I meant no harm.

Don't be that guy. He's not 2011 Dirk because of bad knees and old age, not a lack of trying. Lemme guess you booed Troy Aikman at the end of his career too?

Pretty bold to say six games into the season. I mean, seriously folks, November is one of the toughest months on the schedule. Teams like the Rockets, Thunder, and Wolves will be extremely tough especially when they are on the road.
