The questions fans should ask themselves is if they would send out Tyrell Terry, Josh Green, or a future 1st for Dragic. If the answer is 'no,' congratulations, you just came to the same conclusion as the Mavs BT.

Ok Luka has got to work on Free Throws and Conditioning. Especially with the way this roster is build. He doesn't currently have the stamina to carry this team season after season all the way through 4 qrtrs every game.

Pass on trading for Dragic, he's pretty close to being done and a starting backcourt of Luka - Dragic.....very ugly defensively. You don't sacrifice 19 million in assets for Dragic.
Now Markkanen is a different story, Chicago's been adding wings, but not bigs and not trying to resign him is a huge clue that they don't want him back, but because he's restricted, the Bulls somewhat can control where he goes in a sign and trade. WCS - Powell - 2 2nds for Markkanen?

He certainly needs to work on those things. But I think the new coaching staff should be able to implement an offense that doesn't rely so heavily on him. There is no reason Brunson/Burke shouldn't be able to give him a break. Especially if they focus on getting Porzingis more involved.

How much better can his conditioning get though? He just finished playing a full NBA season, playoffs, and the Olympics. If he’s not in shape after that it ain’t happening. I don’t know that you can ask much more from him. It’s the other guys that need to step up.

I feel like Burke has a similar game to Monta Ellis. I have to think that Kidd tries to put KP in the same spots Dirk was successful.

They do have similar playstyles but this is a disservice to Monta Ellis. Monta averaged 18.9 ppg or more in nine different seasons. Monta was longer, quicker, more athletic, the better ball handler. and the better finisher. Honestly prime Monta was a lot like Dwayne Wade on offense. He's one of the most underrated players ever.

Reporting with
@RamonaShelburne
on ESPN: The NBA has opened up investigations into possible tampering violations involving two sign-and-trade deals completed in free agency: New Orleans and Chicago centered on Lonzo Ball, and Toronto and Miami centered on Kyle Lowry. Story soon.

Two years ago, NBA elevated maximum tampering fine to $10M for teams and opened door for suspension of executives, forfeiture of draft picks and voiding of contracts. Team execs can also have their communications – such as phone records, texts and emails – randomly audited.

His conditioning can't get better for sure and his diet can go a long way in helping that, also throw in more strength training. He can lose fat and gain muscle in a similar way that many other thicc NBA and NFL players have. Jokic comes to mind off the top.

I hope they void trades for tampering. My take is enforce the rule or don't have it. You have to undo what is illegal regardless of how complicated it is. They need to do a lot more work going forward to keep tampering from happening.
Having players take to players as a work around because the teams can't talk to agents is hard to stop but they need to try something. Fines and taking meaningless picks aren't keeping teams from doing it. Reporters giving detailed breakdowns of where guys are going and then deals and trades are announced 2 mins into FA is a silly.

It's shame because this is Mike Fisher who is basically wrong about everything, but who wouldn't like to see DSJ make a come back here? Not really sure what else you could do for a 3rd guard at 10-15 mpg. You can always waive him for something better down the road.

Plus, I have DSJ jersey so...

Agree. Sign him, but give him a short leash. If he's an issue, cut immediately. It's worth a shot. People can grow up and mature.

Isn’t Frankie Smokes still available too? I feel like he would add more than DSJ with his length.

Yeah, I'd sign DSJ to a two-way contract. Any other contract? HELL NO!

I feel like we've addressed that with Sterling and Reggie.
Plus, I still don't see what anyone sees in Frank. He has no offensive game whatsoever.

I don't wanna swap my young healthy guys who have all their potential in front of them for a 35 yr old guy who has everything behind him. Not adding a 1st either. We need a better look at them, even if it means not having Dragic.

I'm all in on DSJ. Sometimes a heaping helping of failure is just what it takes slap an overrated player's ego down a few notches. Look at what the Suns got out of Cameron Payne, after he washed out of the NBA.
He's athletic and he's cheap, and he certainly can't still be pouting that Luka is getting all the attention. And Kidd might be just the guy to teach him how to put his athleticism to good use.

He would arguably be our best defensive PG and gives them someone who can actually stay in front of people.
He had issues with RC much like a few other young players here...
But with Kidd on board now I think Smith Jr could really help this team by getting out in transition a little more.
On side note I noticed that article stated Spencer Dinwiddie would preferred New Orleans over Dallas had he not been traded to Washington.
Makes you scratch your head and wonder why most of these top FA guys just don't prefer Dallas.

Not really... In Dallas he's an off ball player next to Luka and secondary playmaker. In New Orleans he's running the offense.

The reason they cant rely on Brunson/Burke is because neither see the floor very well. Brunson is the most overrated asset we have by the Mavs fandom in that he is a good spark and finisher near the basket on drives but he is not a good PG in that he seldom sees the chess board. How many times have you seen him put the blinders on and fail to see the obvious kick out etc.

Go back and read the Mavs Moneyball stuff about 2019 free agency period. When Luka walks in a few years we will likely point at the 2019/20 FA moves and the total whiff on the 20 draft as the reason. Just venting after another disappointing FA period.

I know you love beating this dead horse, but to call a draft a bust when your picks are still 20 years old is stupid.

During a recent episode of “The Mismatch” podcast, The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor mentioned the Dallas Mavericks as a ‘team to watch’ for Lauri Markkanen. “One other team to watch for (Lauri) Markkanen is the Dallas Mavericks. I’ve heard they also have interest, so there’s some sign-&-trade possibilities involving him with Charlotte & Dallas.” – via DallasBasketball.com Staff @ Sports Illustrated

Carlisle let DSJ do whatever he wanted his rookie season. He sucked. Then he played sick to force a trade, because he was jealous of Luka. You don’t give that guy another chance.

Not only that, but he would bring some badly needed energy off the bench. That's one of the most glaring issues that nobody really talks about. We seriously lack an energy guy to keep the momentum going...esp with the second unit. That's what we miss that JJB brought.

Why would Toronto and the Pelicans get picks? They were involved with the process and deserve to be punished too

Not necessarily. Miami could have tampered without Toronto involvement, by contacting Lowry or his agent. Or even having Jimmy Butler negotiate and report back to them. We know that Riley had dinner with Lebron a couple years before he signed with Miami; the league simply decided to not punish them for it.

. No one else should be rewarded from this. Void those illegal trades if they were in fact illegal.

I get that.....and I get why the veterans did it. But if you're 23-26 years old.....the Mavericks should be a designation for you. And I know in a year or two we will hear about how someone wanted to come here but the Mavs didn't show interest....I mean it took 8 years for it to come out that Iguodala wanted to come here....I expect the same.
