I am looking forward to the regular season opener against the San Antonio Spurs in 2 days. The Mavericks will be without backup point guard Raymond Felton. I think that's a good thing for the Mavs in this game in particular since Devin Harris has always proven to be so valuable in his matchups against Tony Parker.
Depth chart for game 1? Starters are a lock-in: PG Jameer Nelson SG Monta Ellis SF Chandler Parsons PF Dirk Nowitzki C Tyson Chandler Backups? PG Devin Harris, Gal Mekel SG Devin Harris, Jae Crowder SF Al-Farouq Aminu, Richard Jefferson PF Al-Farouq Aminu, Chandler Parsons, Charlie Villanueva C Brandan Wright, Greg Smith Should they go 3 deep at PG and Center? Monta can certainly play a bunch of minutes. Does he need both Devin Harris and Jae Crowder providing backup for him? Really, Richard Jefferson can do that. Who shouldn't dress among Gal Mekel, Jae Crowder, Richard Jefferson, Charlie Villanueva, and Greg Smith? Nice problem to have!

Hi guys, im new here...
 my name is Itay, im from Israel. when I was young I played in maccabi kids and I saw mekel few times training after me so its nice to see him atm.I watched a few times the forum just to see what you guys thinking about Mekel ammm I just have a question, do you think Felton is better than him? I mean, for the 2nd backup PG, you take Felton over him? just want to know youre feeling, interesting from far away have a great day guys.....

Yeah, I love JJ but we already have a bunch of undersized guards at this point. I just don't see how he fits in with this current team.

If/when JJB gets released he's instantly going to become the best available free agent by a wide margin, and is unquestionably better than at least one guy on the current Mavs roster who plays the same position he does. I can think of no reason why the Mavs shouldn't sign him if he's available and willing.

If the Mavs sign J.J. I wonder who they will trade/waive. Also they're still interested in potentially re-signing Rashard Lewis. I say before things are all done and said we'll be saying goodbye to Ricky Ledo and... one of the two point guards named Gal Mekel or Raymond Felton.
What shall the depth chart look like also? That is a potentially crazy deep team. 5 different guys could definitely run the point. Among those guys, Monta Ellis, Devin Harris, and J.J. Barea can play the 2 spot. Then the team is crazy deep at SF as well with Chandler Parsons, Rashard Lewis, Al-Farouq Aminu, Jae Crowder, and Richard Jefferson all being able to play minutes at that position. Same story at PF. Who would ride the IR? Tough call when the roster is all healthy. I think they'd just be smart to evaluate their opponents and take turns resting guys all season long.

Someone please take the time to make a comparison between this year's team and the championship team. Where does this team excel? What is this team lacking that the championship team had? 3 seasons have passed on by since the Mavericks won the Larry O'Brien trophy. Dirk has obviously gotten older, but his supporting cast is potentially the best he's ever had thanks to his selflessness.
