I've always maintained that he was the worst MVP ever, on account of all the past winners having tried and failed multiple times before actually making it... Here's a list of all the one-time MVPs since the Mavs became a franchise back in 1980: Dr. J, Barkley, Hakeem, Robinson, Shaq, Iverson, Garnett, Dirk, Kobe, Rose, Durant, Westbrook... One of these things is not like the others.
The NBA was so eager to crown him as the "next big thing" just because he was the face of the House that Jordan Built, but the battle-tested superstar longevity just wasn't there.
Although do keep in mind that he's making ring-chaser money, not fair market value.

Yeah, I mean, he was Kyrie Irving good before injuries which isn't superstar, but it's almost there.
I think his biggest downfall, other than bad knees, is the fact that he can't shoot threes.

@wojespn: Portland has traded Allen Crabbe to Brooklyn for Andrew Nicholson, league sources tell ESPN.
@wojespn: Sources: Crabbe waiving trade kicker. Also: Portland, Nets had to wait one year from matching of Crabbe's $75M offer sheet to execute deal.

Wow huge win for Portland. Crabbe is ok but getting out of that contract... Marks first mistake is not getting a good pick along with that monstrosity. Also, that Celtics pick looking worse all the time. Still dont expect Brooklyn to makew the playoffs but its no longer out of the realm. Russell, Lin, Crabbe isnt too terrible backcourt

@wojespn: Suns guard Brandon Knight has suffered a torn ACL in his left knee and could miss the entire season, league source tells ESPN.

Poor kid can't catch a break (no pun intended). I feel for him. He's underrated as a shooter/ offensive player but just can't stay healthy.

Not that this means anything, but Irving just followed a bunch of Mavs players today. Speculation, anyone?

Where did you get this info?? Glancing at his Twitter, it looks like he just started following DSJ recently, and has been following Barnes and Seth for a bit... But he's not following Dirk, Cuban, Rick, or anyone else associated with the Mavericks.

Some dufus posted it to a Mavs Facebook page. I don't read anything into it as he also recently followed some soccer player too. I doubt he will be playing for Real Madrid next season.

Kyrie will be attending Barnes wedding on the 29th -- they've been boys for a while. I suspect the festivities have already begun if Kyrie is following Mavs players.

Yeah he played on USA basketball with Barnes. HE played in a lot of summer games with the Curry brothers and DSJ.
Had it been others it would be news, but those three are totally understandable.

- 3 straight trips to the Finals
- 1 championship followed up with Gold at the Olympics
- making $20 million per year for the next three years
- line of Uncle Drew commercials for Pepsi
- considered one of if not the top PG in the league
- what do you do? Demand a trade because you want to be "the team focal point" and then stop responding to calls from the team.
Seriously, WTF???

I think it's more about legacy. If he goes to 6 straight finals it won't matter because Lebron took him. Already ppl are saying that he can't lead a team to more than 40 wins, so that should tell us where perception is about him. I think he wants to prove he can be the best player on a contending team without one of the top 3-5 greatest players ever leading him. Makes me think of Pippen personally. When it was time for him to go to the Hall I remember some saying he was a top 40-50 player ever, but I remember the vast majority saying he was great but he never did anything without Jordan. If Kyrie wants to blaze his own trail he has to do it while he is in his physical prime imo, otherwise it would be too late prolly. At least that is how it would make sense to me.

Does Kyrie leaving (potentially to the West) make the NBA playoffs more or less viable?

When I first read this I was like, oh come on of course it makes it worse and yet... half a second later I realized this is a really interesting question haha. Because I actually think it makes things more interesting if he went to the Wolves for instance. It would make the West playoffs more competitive having another young contending team on the rise and it weakens the Cavs, which by default makes the East more competitive. If he went to the Heat it also weakens the Cavs and helps the Heat. I say it weakens the Cavs in any trade because any trade for Kyrie would likely have some sort of future picks involved.
I'd say it probably helps the playoffs and makes the finals worse in nearly all trade scenarios.

It helps the Celtics and Raptors and Wiz. Too early to tell though it depends on what they get back for Kyrie. Bledsoe and Melo and filler may actually be an upgrade. But then I'm not a huge Kyrie fan. I suppose he's young enough that he can be become a better passer and at making his teammates better and play better defense. But I think he pretty much is what he is.

@ShamsCharania: Sessions, Knicks have agreed on a one-year, $2.3M minimum deal, league sources tell The Vertical.

And Barnes. Never forget the shit he talked last Summer about Barnes. His career in the NBA is over, peace.

Yea, quite a ballsy statement from Jennings about Barnes and his spot on the Olympic team. Dude, you didn't even get an invite to tryout, much less have any ground in commenting on a player's playing time for the Olympic gold medal team.

There were many on this board up to last offseason that wanted him as a cheap fixer upper.
Problem with fixer uppers is they always start a wreck and most players stay that way.

He had some fun moments his rookie season. I remember him torching us for like 40 something. I could be misremembering though. Got hurt and never really improved.

Jennings has somehow stuck around for like 8 or 9 years even though he hasn't had more than a handful of good games. I doubt he would have gotten a 2nd contract above the minimum had he not scored 55 his rookie year.

Doc Rivers stripped of front office duties. That's what happens when you replace Chris Paul with Lou Williams.

That's what happens when you make Austin Rivers a top offseason priority.
