Total points
5 Wilt Chamberlain 6,033
6 Shaquille O'Neal 3,061
7 Moses Malone 1,874
8 Elvin Hayes 1,777
9 Hakeem Olajuwon 1,411
10 Oscar Robertson 1,175
11 Dominique Wilkins 1,133
12 John Havlicek 860
13 Alex English 78
14 DIRK NOWITZKI ---
-----------------------------------
Games at current pace (21.1ppg) to pass. (59 games left this season)
-----------possible, but unlikely--------------
5 Wilt Chamberlain 285 games
----------plausible next year if he plays 82 games and averages 19ppg this year and next--------------
6 Shaquille O'Neal 145 games
7 Moses Malone 89 games
8 Elvin Hayes 84 games
9 Hakeem Olajuwon 67 games
----------plausible this season at current pace---------------------
10 Oscar Robertson 56 games
11 Dominique Wilkins 54 games
12 John Havlicek 41 games
13 Alex English 4 games
14 DIRK NOWITZKI ---
Current pace is for 26,780, which would squeak him ahead of Robertson for 10th all time, although missing games like tonight will hurt him in his chase of #10 by the end of this season.

BTW, Monta is no longer the Mavs leading scorer. So maybe now people can quit with that rhetoric (even though he was doing it in more minutes, on more shots, and less efficiently...)

He is what he is. A high usage rate player that doesn't contribute to a lot of wins when you look at advanced stats. He's had TWO seasons in which he posted a WS/48 better than .100. Even DeJuan f'ing Blair is better in that regard.
On the other hand, you have Dirk who is posting an elite .200 WS/48, his best since '11, yet isn't the primary scorer down the stretch for some unknown goddamn reason.

This thread is about Dirk's greatness - take the anti-Ellis agenda elsewhere.

You're right. I just wanted to reaffirm the notion that Dirk is still by far the best player on this team when it comes to leading the team to wins.

I was playing around on Synergy today. Dirk is 5th...in THE NBA, on post-up defense. Only giving up .51 PPP.

I'm surprised with Dirk's defense in the post this year. In the past he had trouble guarding guys 1-on-1 but was solid when boxing out and closing out on jumpers.

Oh, and not to anyone's surprise, he's dominating offensively. .200 WS/48, 23.3 PER, 117 ORTG, .600 TS%. All best since 2010-11.

Holy crap, in the process of listening to the NBA podcast of Bruce Bowen putting Dirk's career in perspective, and he's doing a shit job. First off, referred to Dirk as 6-10, 6-11...
Only really talks well about him when he brings up specific games about him. His comparisons to other greats are a joke.

Bruce Bowen is a chump. Almost as bad as Jalen Rose. Don't look to him for anything other than ignorant at worst and banal at best hoop talk.

after the loss to the Raptors - Nowitzki now needs 35 points to pass Alex English for 13th on the NBA's scoring list.

Oh and Dirk is great.

Random Dirk is amazing factoid, Dirk Nowitzki and Kobe Bryant are the only two players in Nba history to play their entire career with one team, score 25k points, win an mvp and a finals mvp and a win a title. It jumps to include Jerry West and John Havlicek if you knock out the league MVP requirement. Still pretty special.

Just a random thought: Dirk is currently averaging 21/6/3 on 49.9/39.8/92.3 splits... the only players I can think of offhand that were better at age 35 would be MJ, Elgin Baylor, Kareem, Bill Russell and Wilt. That's a damn impressive list to be on.
Very happy to see that last year was a total aberration, as most of us here suspected. I wish the roster was a little better this year, but I think it's still good enough to get into the playoffs and give one of the powerhouses a scare this summer. Hopefully we can add a center that better complements Dirk's finely-aging game and we can make one or two more deep runs before the Uberman hangs 'em up.
