Thats sexy too but we would have to reactivate KVH and Bradley for the bench.

More to come.

Just posted the same link in the NBA forum. Weird.

Mavs should try to do a sign and trade involving Stack/Bass/Carroll/George/2nd Rd Pk for Mickael Pietrus/Hedo Turkoglu.
Roster:
Kidd/Howard/Turkoglu/Dirk/Gortat
Beaubois/Jet/Pietrus/Hollins/Damp
Barea/Wright
Nivins/Williams/Foster/

If the Raps are still in play then Shawn Marion may have played himself by trying to squeeze an extra two years and $15MM out of the Raptors. If they pull their offer he's going to have a tough time getting more than the MLE.

If that's all anyone's willing to pay him, though, you'd have to think Cleveland would be a likely destination. He'd be a pretty good fit for them.
Mavs need to bug Portland's front office, figure out where they're going from here. Their ability to offer money to a restricted free agent could be Dallas' ticket to finding a S&T with Stack.

done with "doom & gloom", back to "win now"
The perfect summer involves landing 3 out of 5 of these guys using different combinations of Damp, Stack, George and Howard as centerpieces (they dump salary, we dump losers - it's addition by subtraction, at worst):
Bobcats - Gerald Wallace, Raja Bell, Raymond Felton (S&T)
Bucks - Michael Redd, Ramon Sessions
**Howard/Stack/George for Wallace/Bell/Felton (or) Howard/Stack for Wallace/Felton (or) Howard for Wallace - allows the Bobcats to shed major salary (up to $18-19mil) so they can sell the team, plus they get talent in return. Howard (1 season) for Wallace (4 seasons) straight-up works too.
**Damp/Stack for Redd/Sessions (or) Damp/George for Redd - salary dump for the Bucks (up to $18mil), but they lose major talent.
Assuming Kidd returns, the 3-player deal with Charlotte works best because it allows us to retain Dampier as a trade asset and eases Gortat into the starting lineup:
Kidd/Felton
Bell/Terry
Wallace/Ross
Dirk/Singleton
Damp/Gortat
But we can use the Damp chip now to get a superior offensive SG and a "truer" PG to mentor under Kidd by dealing with both teams (of course, this operates on the assumption that Gortat is ready to be a starter NOW):
Kidd/Sessions
Redd/Terry
Wallace/Ross
Dirk/Singleton
Gortat/Hollins
Either deal should put us back into contention (assuming Gortat lives up to the hype and my new-found interest in Ross isn't entirely alcohol-fueled!)

Free agent Hedo Turkoglu has backed out of his commitment to the Portland Trail Blazers and plans to sign with the Toronto Raptors, multiple league sources told Yahoo! Sports on Friday night.
Turkoglu had agreed on a five-year, $50 million deal with the Blazers, but changed his mind and is headed for a five-year, $56 million deal with the Raptors. Toronto would have to renounce three free agents – Shawn Marion, Carlos Delfino and Anthony Parker – to create the cap space for Turkoglu.
Apparently, the Blazers are already busy exploring other free-agent options for the $9 million in salary-cap space.
A source says Turkoglu’s wife wanted badly to live in Toronto, a far more European-style city, and that’s where it appears the Turkish native is headed. The Raptors have embraced the Euro game under GM Bryan Colangelo, building a roster that includes Euro talents Jose Calderon and Andrea Bargnani.
Five years ago, Turkoglu was close to signing with the Phoenix Suns that Colangelo was running, but changed his mind and went to the Orlando Magic.
After opting out of his contract last week in Orlando, he became one of the hottest free agents on the market. Turkoglu, 30, averaged 16.8 points and 5.3 rebounds last season for the Magic.
________________
I hope this doesn't mean Portland will now jump in on Kidd. I assume Marion will be there next target.

Well, first you can thank EL for comparing me to 92bDad earlier today - that comment threw my mind back into positive mode, rather than dwelling on the worst-case scenario for this offseason (thanks EL!)
Also, thank Ribosoma - he & I spent the past couple hours mulling over which teams were looking for salary dumps and whether they had anyone who could help us win...
I'm fairly certain this is the best-case scenario available this summer...

I thought about that too - both Sessions and Felton could arguably be better than Kidd this season anyway...
We definitely don't want any of New York's garbage, LA can't afford him, Cleveland can't give anyone up for him, so Portland seems to be the best suitor... Who would you go after?

If there are rumors of a firesale in Charlotte, then I want in - that's how "Gasol-like" deals happen!
(well, that and massive collusion - hopefully some of that goes our way too!)

Thinking about this lineup's defense gives me wood, but the offense is equally balanced...
This would easily be the most well-rounded Mavs squad ever - it keeps the one-dimensional players on the bench where role players SHOULD be!

Redd & Terry are kind of redundant because they both suck at defense, and I'm still not sure about Gortat starting, but this team could easily score 120 points a night (and I suppose Ross could put in a bit of time at the 2 if we needed a stopper...)
The biggest aspect of this lineup is that Dirk, Wallace & Redd all have the ability to be Batman at any given time - hell, it wouldn't be inconceivable for all 3 to put up 30 points EACH in a game!
Not as well-rounded as the other lineup, but they could score a lot of points and they're certainly NOT bad on defense (like D'Antoni's Suns...)

Not even close. Cuban's net worth is currently in the realm of 2.3 billion. MJ isn't any higher than 500 or 600 mil.

Kidd/Sessions 16 ppg combined (including JJB)
Redd/Terry 38 ppg combined
Wallace/Ross 22 ppg combined
Dirk/Singleton 27ppg combined
Gortat/Hollins 12ppg combined
That offensive of team looks scary, 113 ppg, someone could be worse scoring than expected though Gortat/Singleton/Hollins could score more than expected

Nice ideas, UD. Redd instantly becomes more interesting to me if he comes with Sessions.
Thinking out loud. If a straight salary dump would arguably get you Redd and Sessions, would you have an easier or harder time getting them with a package of JET/Stack/JJB/filler? Say the Bucks bit on that (more long term obligations but more talent and plenty of savings this year relative to what Sessions + Redd would cost), you lost Bass but kept Hollins and Singleton, and didn't trade Josh:
Kidd/Sessions/Boobie
Redd/Ross
Josh/LLE
Dirk/Singleton
Gortat/Damp/Hollins
Depending on who fills that LLE slot (Barnes?) your backups on the wings probably leave something to be desired (expect to see Kidd and Sessions on the court at the same time), but your center rotation isn't lacking, and you've still got both Josh and Damp available to you as trade chips to make future moves.

Sure, we could keep Howard if we only dealt with the Bucks (and it's definitely easier to deal with one team at a time), I just wanted to replace Josh with Crash to eliminate the bulk of our 2006 loser mentality...
But let's play it your way...
Shipping Terry definitely clears up the redundancy between him & Redd and allows Ross to play his natural position... Same with JJB - he's out of the loop with Sessions on the roster (not to mention Boobs & Calathas lurking in the distance...)
The biggest motivation for the Bucks is that JET & JJB give them pretty good positional compensation to go along with the salary dump...
Grab Barnes with the LLE, and I'm a happy camper... Howard should play well in a contract season (and he'll expire in time for the 2010 sweeps if he doesn't, so win-win...)
Kidd/Sessions
Redd/Ross
Josh/Barnes
Dirk/Singleton
Damp/Gortat
That's balanced AND attainable!
(I knew I was missing a bunch of angles when I first thought this through - thanks for helping me sort some of it out!)

That team would have so many options it is crazy, run multiple screens for Redd, leave Dirk in mid post at free throw line, Gerald Wallace will have so many chances for alley oops on the break, Kidd will continue to get open threes and the spacing will really help Gortat on the break and pick and roll

(and if they're selling the team, they'd definitely want to sweeten any deal that included an $18+mil salary dump...)

I don't know if this'll make sense but it does to me:
Josh's best spot is probably 3rd or 4th option on this team, the problem I see is if we actually had the talent to make him the legit 3rd or 4th option...he'll fly off the reservation.

That's part of why I wanted to trade him for Wallace - Crash would be a legit #2 guy next to Dirk...

Right, I honestly liked the Charlotte one better with
Kidd/Felton
Bell/Terry
Wallace/Ross
Dirk/Singleton
Damp/Gortat
I think we get better defensively and if you go small you're still quick and have scoring options. You're also still protected with the good center combo.
