Thomas out 6-8 weeks
Suns' Thomas will miss 6-8 weeks
February 25, 2006
PHOENIX (AP) -- Phoenix Suns center Kurt Thomas is expected to miss at least six weeks with a stress fracture in his right foot, the team said Saturday.
Thomas, who is averaging 8.6 points and 7.8 rebounds, had played in all 53 of the Suns' games. He had been playing hurt recently and limping noticeably, but he continued to be in the starting lineup.
The Suns also were without swingman Dijon Thompson and forward Nikoloz Tskitishvili for their game against Charlotte on Saturday night. Suns coach Mike D'Antoni said Thompson had an ailing right knee that would require surgery and keep him out indefinitely, and Tskitishvili had a sprained right ankle that would sideline him a couple of weeks.

Good lord, I guess they'll be starting Marion at center now?

Yahoo Sports shows Boris Diaw as their Center tonight.
It's an offensive showdown going on there. Bobcats leading 98-97 with 3min left in the 3rd quarter!

The Matrix ends up with 31 points and 24 rebounds on the heels of a 44/15 game. Of course it doesn't matter since everyone knows that Steve Nash is carrying that team and is a lock for a 2nd MVP trophy.

For a second I thought it was an article about Isiah and the trade deadline. Fair enough.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I really think the Nash-MVP talk is dying down, just like the Kobe-talk already did. I just can't see them giving it to him again when both the Mavs and Spurs are so far ahead of the Suns, not to mention the Pistons.

This is bad news for Phoenix, because as well as their bizarre matchup games work against some of the cruddier teams in the league, they won't work so well against the kinds of tougher teams that they are going to have to soon face in bunches like Dallas, San Antonio, Denver, the Clipps, or even recently surging Houston.
Considering the fact that DanToni and company have a whole heck of a lot of those kinds of games to play over the next few weeks, they had better pray that someday Amare will be able to come back in any half-way decent shape to play, because on most nights a gimmicky frontcourt rotation of Marion, Diaw, Pat Burke, and Skita (and maybe Action Jackson #24 if the Suns bring him out of mothballs) just isn't going to cut it against a real playoff team. Seventeen of their next twenty-eight games will be played against teams currently holding playoff spots, and five of those games are against Dallas, the Squirts, and Detroit; and many of the other games that they play in that stretch are coming against teams like Houston or Utah that might be a tougher win than their records would indicate.
Now, they'll probably still hold on to their playoff position, but I'd guess that they are probably going to have to run Nash and Marion into the ground playing virtually all game long to do so, and that's the kind of thing that just might come back to haunt them when the second season finally starts...

I don't care if they're first in their division. Phoenix is pathetic.

A month or so ago 82games posted some numbers on which teams and players were most effective at offensive fouls. PHX had 3 of the top players in the league in Thomas, Bell and Nash. That goes a long way towards explaining their improvement in defensive efficiency over last season.
Taking Thomas out of the lineup won't do anything to help a defense that's already falling back to earth (down to 5th after being 2nd for most of the season). Adding Amare and his knee could, and probably will, make them even worse defensively.

They have to play with four guards and a forward at all times. Even with a healthy roster, they'd be still be playing people out of position. Pathetic.

Suns are far from pathetic. Behind the Spurs, Mavs, and Detroit, they've been playing better than most of the league. This after losing Joe Johnson, Q-Rich and Amare for pretty much the season. Yet, they're only 6 games behind first place. Nash and Marion deserve major props for their play. They're carrying that team into the playofffs. They don't fear me too much right now because I haven't seen them play much but I do worry about how good Amare will be once he returns. Experts will say he's going to come back half as good.

I reiterate. I don't care how many games they've won. They don't have an actual center on the team.
You know, the 03-04 Mavs played better than most of the league, and I thought that team was pathetic too.
The Suns are pathetic.

They are - like Nellie's mavs - just going through the motions, on their way to proving the old adage defense wins championships.

It will be interesting to see how they respond in the next few weeks. Every time I think they're due for a slide they prove me wrong.

Well, normally I would label the horrible teams and the underachieving teams as pathetic ie Knicks
Phoenix is not in Dallas's league, but I wouldn't call them pathetic.
