Well first of all, that's not true. Zone defense still involves defending players individually. Not having defenders on the floor is going to hurt you no matter what.
Secondly, I doubt we play a ton of zone tonight.

Very nice pass by Marion. This is the underrated aspect of the argument of Marion vs Butler. Marion improves our offensive flow while Butler destroys it. And of course the big difference in defense.

Oh my goodness. We're about to see a lineup with Jet, JJB, Dirk and Cardinal.
Pray for missed shots.

Wow, Haywood is shooting merely 24% from the line. He shot 74% in 08-09 and 65% last year for the Mavericks, so he's not usually that awful.

Barea holds the ball for 15 seconds, passes to Brian Freaking Cardinal, gets it back... Charges.

Is defense that big of a difference? I totally agree that Marion is a better defender, but I've always thought Butler was at least average if not a bit better.

That looked like an intentionally late shot from Jet.

I just don't see how someone who is shooting 11% in a 34 shot sample size can think its a good idea to just launch a 3 early in the shot clock.

Very poor first quarter. Limit the turnovers and the Mavs were up already, maybe they are a bit tired so far (more of a hope)...

Well Marion's a lot better than average, first of all.
And while Butler isn't a bad man-on-man defender, I personally think he's a poor team defender that gets lost a lot and gambles too much. When he's locked on a guy he's not bad at all but all of the other aspects are lacking, I think.

The Mavs defensive ranking is a facade. They have been lit up by good offensive teams this year(Nuggets, Hornets, and so far Thunder). The have held bad offensive teams to really bad numbers.

Tonight (IMO) would be a good night to play Ian and Dominique for about 5 minutes.... they should (IMO) give the Mavs a spark and they will have fresh legs.

Why does Juan have license to shoot as much as he does?

Barea's shot is obviously way off this year, and I think that's a big reason why he's having such problems. He's best when he's driving and creating, but when he can't even provide a threat of a jumper, he can't get into the lane.

The were not "lit up" by the Hornets or the Nuggets, and they held Memphis to 90 twice. Their defense may regress, but you've presented no real evidence to support your point.

At least Haywood is rebounding?
If terry blows another layup...
If Brendan misses another free throw..

Everytime Haywood has the ball he looks to score, Terry wide open on the wing. That was also the case the last games...

Barea is a career 34% outside shooter, thats allready not good.
This season 15% taking 2.5 a game, they just should forbid them to shoot 3´s

Well, Ibaka could have flopped and we'd probably be looking at a Elton Brand/JaVale McGee situation. That appeared to be a two handed shove.
