#1 reason Dallas can't get Shaq
Okay, correct me if I'm wrong, but I see a huge flaw in all the "media" speculation about these trades for Shaq. Everyone of them says Dirk has to be involved, or a S&T with Nash + others,
BUT
Am I the only one who believes this is impossible for the Mavs. Beacuse:
#1) If you deal Dirk, Nash might be pissed that Dallas traded his best friend, and go to Phoenix, which has the money, and Nash might be the only player available to spend it on.
#2) If Dallas refuses to trade Dirk, why would Nash agree to a S&T trade for the Lakers when he'll still be leaving his best friend, and going somewhere not of his choice. If this was proposed to Nash, wouldn't he just say no, and sign with Phoenix. I know it's a little less $, but honestly, what would you do. He likes Phoenix, has a home there, has been with the organization before, and is being asked to leave the #1 choice for him ( DALLAS ). Wouldn't you just go with you're second best option ( Phoenix ).
IMO either way you'd lose both of them, so the Mavs should avoid this trouble (unless there is a miracle non Nash or Dirk scenario), and re-sign Nash, make an attempt a different Center, or just stay the same.

RE:#1 reason Dallas can't get Shaq
really nash wouldn't relish being in Los Angeles. Playing along side a superstar guard like Kobe. You have way too many assumptions as what nash will and will not do.

Resign Nash first then deal Dirk to LA.

RE:#1 reason Dallas can't get Shaq
Just211, I happen to agree with you. I know it's dangerous to assume what Nash is thinking or how he feels, but it doesn't make much sense to me. I don't think Dirk or Nash should be seperated. If that is the case, how does Dallas get Shaq?
The answer, it seems, is to acquire as many other pieces as they possibly can. I think the next piece is a center. If that center can facilitate a deal, great. If not, you have your center.

if they get Shaq without givin up Dirk or Nash.....then I will go out on the long and crazy limb of predicting that the mavs would be the favorites to win the title.
i dont see LA caving to the point where they deal Shaq for anthing less than a package involving Nash....

They have to deal him. Shaq wants out and Kobe wants him out. I think the reason why Kobe opted out of his contract was to send a message to the Lakers that if you want me you have to get rid of Shaq. Shaq is more than likely out of the Lakers organization however I don't think its a given he is a Mav.

FFM "I think the reason why Kobe opted out of his contract was to send a message to the Lakers that ...."
Horse-hockey!!!!!!
The reason why Kobe opted out of his contract was THE MONEY. A guaranteed max 7-year deal, worth about $130M, was certain to land in his lap if he opted out.
While he is roaming free, he is using the leverage, yes indeedy. But his REASON TO OPT OUT was piles of cash.

All basketball quote on quote all-stars opt out. I thought the deal would be closer to 7 years and 141 million dollars. Anything but Dirk and I am on board.

RE:#1 reason Dallas can't get Shaq
Shaq is flat out not worth Dirk at this point in both their respective careers. While there are ways to trick Nash into a sign and then trade, I wouldn't want to do that it could come back to bite you in the butt later by garnering a bad rep in using and tricking players. This team can win a ring without Shaq, although not as easily as with Shaq.
But if LA has to trade Shaq, I think that there's a good chance to get him without giving up Dirk or Nash. If LA doesn't have to trade Shaq, I doubt that they do so.

RE: #1 reason Dallas can't get Shaq
Fish, DB.com...
Dallas Morning News writer David Moore, a respected voice, says the Lakers are telling teams they want “two All-Stars and a young player.’’ Question is, by the time they settle, will something right between those two desires work? Is Antoine Walker a recent-enough All-Star for you? Is Jerry Stackhouse – up until 18 months ago considered a “franchise player’’ – a recent-enough All-Star for you? Would Josh Howard and Devin Harris constitute “stardom’’ for you?
Shaq .... 2 ex all-stars (Walker -Stack) and top young player, #5 in draft ( Harris) and filler parts (Delk-Bradley)

I think it takes Nash (a former All-Star), Walker (a former All-Star), Josh Howard (young player) and filler parts (Delk-Bradley or Laettner), but if you could pull off this deal, I'd definitely do it.

How come noone has brought up the "Nash-Santa Clara" connection?

RE:#1 reason Dallas can't get Shaq
Maybe that too long ago? Besides, money speaks. He can always fly to Santa Clara if its so important to him. I think Dallas can definitely get Shaq. I believe they can get Shaq without trading Dirk. Cuban looks like a great businessman and his negotiation skills are superb. If anyone can get it done, it would be him. If I were the Lakers though, I would resign Fisher and take Harris off the Mavs hands. Then they have their pg and future pg. Forget Payton. I think the Lakers would have been better last year if Payton came off the bench. The Mavs then resign Nash and Daniels and they have their pg punch for the future. Daniels at sg is baloney I think. Get another sg who can defend better.
Mavs will get Shaq. If they don't their current roster looks solid enough anyway. Oops, they still have Walker. That's the last move they really need to make. Then again, they can keep him for the cap room.

MT, I'd like to ask you a favor.
Please stop using so much space in your posts.
It's really not necessary to double space every single sentence.
Nor is it necessary to add 5 spaces between your last sentence and you sig.
Thank You.
