who is our best point guard? Delonte or Collison?
Who and why? I honestly don't know Collison at all. I do know Delonte is a borderline starter/solid backup.

You've got to hope that it's Collison although I don't know that it's a given. Regardless, the Mavs are in a better situation at the point than they were last year.

Pass rating
17.3 Nash
13.8 Lin
10.4 Williams
10.2 Dragic
9.8 Sessions
8.8 Kidd
8.6 Westbrook
7.7 Collison
6.8 West
6.4 Jones
6.1 Roddy
4.3 Mayo
Assists/bad pass
5.2 Dragic
4.6 Collison
4.3 Roddy
3.9 Kidd
3.7 Nash
3.7 Sessions
3.5 Jones
3.4 Westbrook
3.4 Williams
3.3 Lin
3.2 West
3.0 Mayo
Assists per 48
16.3 Nash
11.6 Williams
11.0 Lin
9.7 Sessions
9.6 Dragic
9.2 Kidd
7.5 Jones
7.5 Westbrook
7.4 Collison
6.3 West
6.3 Roddy
4.6 Mayo
I have no doubt that some of our guys will be better this year and that the numbers are all skewed by different circumstances (particularly Mayo's) but as a pre-season power ranking I'd put Collison/West/Roddy/Mayo/DoJo/Cunningham but thats all based on last year's performance, only offensive PG skills and not representative of new roles on the team and a new roster around them. Clearly Collison takes the top spot numerically and by popular consensus.

Collison is better suited to start and finish, due to his ability to break down opponents. Delonte does well off the bench. I can almost see him in our Jet role as first guard off the bench.

I'm just happy that the Mavs got a PG that's not allergic to finish layups.

I love Delonte's game, but he tends to pound the rock a lot longer than a PG should...
Collison seems to be our only true PG on the roster - everyone else is really more of a combo guard.

I agree. NY has no idea how awful Kidd is at this point in his career. Thank God Jason dumped us for NY.

I think there's a good argument that Delonte is a better all-around player, but Collison is definitely the better pure PG.

Neither are great poing guards, but Collison is a little better passer, and obviously, has much more potential as a scorer, penetrator. West is much better defender though, same with Roddy.

Can't find this even close, Collison by far.

I do expect Darren to start, to get the largest share of the point guard minutes, and to be the most effective player at that position for Dallas next year; if not right out of the gate, then by the midway point of the season, once he and Rick have had a chance to get to know one another. But I also think it's a pretty close call between him and Delonte. When we're talking about point guard the ability to make plays and distribute the ball on the offensive end is obviously going to be at the top of the priority list, and Darren gets the nod there, but Delonte's advantage on the defensive end is almost certainly larger than Darren's advantage with the ball in his hands, even if it's ultimately of less consequence because of the specific position under consideration.

Collison, but I see Delonte's skillset as closer to a 2's, despite where he's slotted into most lineups before coming to the Mavs.
