Howard needs to improve on rebounding the ball. 5 rebounds in 40+ minutes doesn't cut it.
Needs to improve his defense too.

Howard could do a hell of a lot to improve in my opinion. Im not impressed with him very much. He has had a few good games, then other ones he just isnt very good. He does hit some clutch shots though. Ive seen him hit several shots when it really counted.

I think Juwan's improvement will come when he FINALLY realizes that he is the 4th option here. He is so used to being the go-to guy that I'm sure that it is a tough adjustment. Maybe when he gets the point that he only needs to score 12 or so points a game, Juwan will focus on rebounding and defense.

I think that as long as Nellie doesn't feed him the ball on offense he is a big asset to the team. I like his game and his attitude. My only complaint about him this series has been when he takes more shots than Dirk. I am not sure if that was caused by Nellie's play calling, Howard's greediness, Dirk's nerves, Finley's favoritism or something else. I don't think it was caused by Howards's greediness. Whatever the reason was, it has been corrected and the Mavs are rolling. The Mavericks are a great team since they play as a team.

does howard have the potential to be a good enough rebounder and a decent defender?
i don't know that he will be a decent defender. he's by far the worst defender on this maverick's team (that gets significant playing time)
as a 4th option on this team, he's solid enough offensively.
but if he dallas tries to make him anything other than 4th option, then he'll be detrimental to the teams offensive success.

The best thing about Howard is his contract. When it is up in 2 more years, the Mavs will be able to use his salary as the starting point to offer a contract to a free agent. Something about being signed under the old CBA. And there is a certain large man in San Antonio who will be a free agent that year. We'll be able to offer Duncan a larger contract than even the Spurs. Add that to the fact that the Admiral will have retired by then, and we're in the Duncan sweepstakes.

Dude - if Duncan was our team's 2nd or 3rd option, we'd be one of the best NBA teams ever assembled. I think he'd probably want to be the man.

i know mffl, i was joking a bit..
well, you would have duncan, nash..maybe an all star by then, finley.. a two or three time allstar by then, and dirk...maybe an all nba player by then but definitely an all star...
could you imagine that?
and all of them are good, team players

i'm happy that he has had two crucial rebounds.
that's what i'm talking about....i'm not talking about a one game performance, i'm talking about his whole freaking career..specifically talking about his time with the mavs.
he doesn't play defense or rebound even remotely consistently
even worse, he doesn't even put the effort in most of the time

he's going to have to prove that he's willing to do the dirty work.. rebound and play defense on a consistent basis.
it's so frustrating watching him lollygag around on defense and on the boards..
it's also frustrating watching him get the ball and the mavs completely get out of their game when he gets many touches

I always thought Juwan was pretty solid. Not great, not spectacular but he fills up the PF spot adequately, and allows Dirk to move out to SF and gets Eisley off the floor... =P
I always thought that he isn't going to be an All Star anytime soon but he does everything decently enough and without disrupting chemistry that he's actually a great find.
He did a poor job on Malone but he does OK against other players. If the Mavs had traded for another player instead of Howard, the Mavs might not have even won that series with Utah.

No, howard does not play defense or rebound well at all
sorry to burst your bubble
malone was dominating throughout the series when howard guarded him.
he wasn't very good in the series when bradley or bryant guarded him though
