It's unbelievable how deep we are. Stackhouse and Terry combined for 37 points off the bench. I'm liking Terry more and more.

Another good shooting night for the Mavs. Another opponent held to 41% shooting. Our defensive rebounding's going to bite us in the ass eventually if we don't step it up, but that's about the only thing that I see worth complaining about after a 2-0 start.

What an awesome game. This is one heck of a team, that plays like a team. Different guys carrying the load at different times, sharing the ball....... We have improved the defense and gave up nearly nothing on offense.

thoughts:

Damp with an ugly looking game, but a great line.

This could be the year Dirk notches his first triple double.

Nice to see that Nellie will actually play the mantis when Damp doesn't show up.

I'm convinced the ugly start to the game was due to the team being blinded by that bright yellow or distracted by the sheer ugliness of those unis.

I stilll like having Terry AND Stack off the bench. No team in the L can handle that type of secondary production. I scoff at the notion that ANYONE has anywhere NEAR as deep a team as us. Scoff.

Damn Mavs almost had 4 players with 20 points or more. Definately a great accomplishment to have six guys in double figures though. I think that's going to be a trend this season. I would've liked to see Devin a bit more tonight though. I was worried about having Devin start this season but I see it really doesn't matter who starts the game because the more experienced players will be on the floor at the end of the game everytime and I can't say I have a problem with that. I'm not sold on Terry and Stack's shooting from the field but i'm starting to give in a bit. If they can hit shots like they did tonight on a back to back road game than they may be better shooters than I give them credit for.

Yeah, we can practically field two different teams on back-to-backs and still have a solid lineup. That's gonna be a big help when the season starts to drag and guys need rest.

Really nice game for a 2nd half of a back to back on the road. Mavs still have lots to work on, but still were way more than the Hornets could handle. Nice to see the Mavs hold a 2nd straight team under the goal of 42% FG shooting.

Damp didn't look as good tonight even though his stat line was better. Nice to see Nellie play Bradley though. Bradley and Damp combine for 46 out of 48 minutes at center.

This team looks like it can be really good. I'm looking forward to the rest of the season.

We will see DJ later in the season. He isn't ready yet. He is working with Mark Bryant before the game on his one on one moves. Right now Bradley and Henderson is why Booth can't get in. Bradley just needs to play a role. Don't worry about stats or being pretty. Be agressive, block shots and play around 10 minutes a night against most teams. it is a nice role for him. Henderson has been very solid. He won't block shots like Booth but he can guard people better out on the floor, will show on a pick and role play on D, is fundamentally sound and won't hurt you on the court.

Can you blame Damp though? I'm not sure if it his conditioning that made him tired but this team never stopped running tonight. Everytime an opponent missed we were already down court ready to score. That's something Damp is going to have to get accustom to and going into this season it wasn't really much of a concern of mine because I assumed we would be more of a half court team.

I like what I see from Henderson this season. I felt he could get some minutes behind Dirk but he's forcing Nellie to play him beside Dirk. He sort of reminds me of PJ Brown without the mid ranger.

Very nice win on the road. Decent numbers for Damp in the end: 8 reb, 3 ast, 10 pts. He did seem to struggle a bit in the beginning. Maybe it was the back to back games.

And the depth off the bench is absolutely amazing. If they keep playing like this, it almost seems unfair to the other teams! [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

Pistons have a different type of "DEEP BENCH" which is extremely good defensively...other than that, theres no other team

Anyone else excited about stack? I know it's early, but the guy just seems like an extremely confident player. Yet I don't sense any arrogance about him. I liked the sequence of stack missing a jumper guarded by baron davis, davis scoring on a highlight reel layup on the other end, and then stack attacking baron on a fastbreak on the next possession getting to the foul line.

I'm worried about jumping to conclusions too soon. After all, it's only two games. At the same time, I agree that it's important that this team is getting a taste of winning. I know a lot of us have worried about minutes, shots, etc. When you win, those things have a tendency to sort themselves out. If this team had started ugly, I'm afraid the players would have started worrying too much. Still, there is plenty of time for ups and downs...

I like what I see from this team though. These guys really scramble. It gives the Mavs a scrappiness that will be a great benefit to them in the future. Best of all, they look like they can still score effectively.

The player who stood out tonight was Stack. I thought he had a very good game. It seems that a common concern is whether or not his play is going to negatively affect Dirk. I don't think that's a problem...yet. Last night, Dirk left a lot on the court. I was concerned about how he would play tonight. With Stack stepping up, that became somewhat irrelevant. Dirk was able to pick his spots and have an efficient night. That's the beauty of talented depth.

Have I mentioned how much I love Michael Finley. I'll say it again, you just know what that guy is going to give you every single night.

Jason Terry got a little more opportunity to shine tonight. I thought he did an admirable job. Just a solid night.

Damp will be the litmus for the boards this year, it seems. I thought he had another positive impact. His numbers aren't gaudy, but he uses his body well, gets his hands on a lot of balls, and makes himself a presence. I love it.

Anyway, the guys have a little time to rest and develop some more chemistry. I can honestly say that I am thrilled about the potential of this team though. They have to put it together, but it's exciting to think about what could be...

About the game:

I don’t know what it was about tonight, I just think that we had a game under our belt helped us out tonight. That is why I felt more confident about tonight’s game than last nights (game). In my years of coaching, I’ve never seen my team come in to another place on a home opener and win this easy.

About the play of Jerry Stackhouse:

I thought Stack was great. I love him as a sixth man; I’ve always loved him coming off the bench. I didn’t have to burn up (Michael) Finley’s minutes with the way Stack played.

Mavericks Guard Michael Finley:

You get in a game like this where the offense comes easy and you forget about playing defense. It puts pressure on your offense to score. Coach (Nelson) called some timeouts to settle us down. Jason Terry and Jerry Stackhouse came in off the bench and gave us energy. They give us power off the bench. The Hornets put Baron (Davis) on me in the second half to try to rough me up, to be aggressive against me. I took the challenge head on. I ran him off screens.

Mavericks Guard Jason Terry:

We’re going to spread it around. We have guys that look to make the extra pass. They are so unselfish. We have guys committed to winning. They want to do whatever it takes to win. They are ready to sacrifice. In this situation against the Hornets I feel very comfortable. I know their personnel. They have beaten me so much in the past. I knew what was going to happen. We had the lead at half and I knew they were going to be aggressive in the second half. Could we match their aggressiveness coming out? We did.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- After only two games, Dirk Nowitzki thinks this year's Dallas Mavericks may be their best team yet.

Nowitzki, Michael Finley and new sixth-man Jerry Stackhouse each scored 19 points Wednesday night, and Dallas improved to 2-0 with a 106-91 victory that tarnished Byron Scott's debut as the New Orleans Hornets' head coach.

``You get a Stackhouse and a (Jason) Terry coming off the bench -- that's amazing. Not a lot of teams have that,'' Nowitzki said. ``We have a great luxury ... the deep bench is going to win us a lot of games this year.''

Terry had 18 points off the bench, one of six Mavericks with at least 10 points. Josh Howard added 11 and Erick Dampier had 10 points and eight rebounds.

``We're just guys who are committed to winning,'' Terry said. ``You've got guys like myself and Stackhouse who've come from losing situations. We want to do whatever it takes to win. Any little sacrifice -- we're here to make it. It definitely showed out there tonight.''

In its first game as a Western Conference team, New Orleans committed 17 turnovers, leading to 23 Dallas points. When the Hornets started tossing up desperation 3-pointers and creating fast-break opportunities, the Mavericks took advantage.

Dallas had 17 fast-break points, including two dunks by Nowitzki in the second half.

``Not very good,'' Scott said. ``All the things we have been working on ... it just seemed to go out the window. Obviously we can rectify it, but I'm still disappointed in the way we came out.''

The Mavericks, coming off a season-opening victory over Sacramento a night earlier, shot 54 percent. Finley was 8-of-13 in 25 minutes. The only reason he didn't play more was because Stackhouse was so good coming off the bench, Dallas coach Don Nelson said.

``The depth of the team showed tonight and I didn't have to burn Finley out,'' Nelson said. ``He was having a great game. I normally would have played him 40 minutes tonight, but Stackhouse came in and was a dominant player. I thought he was going to be a great sixth man and he has been.''

Stackhouse, who said since being acquired from Washington that he would accept a reserve role, was beaming after the game.

``I love my team. I'm enjoying this role. I'm able to come in and just play my game,'' he said.

Baron Davis led the Hornets with 25 points, and Jamaal Magloire and David Wesley added 11 apiece.

Dallas began the second half with an 8-2 run, then didn't let their lead dip below six points despite the best efforts of Davis, who had 13 points in the third quarter.

Davis finished one drive with a leaning, off-balance scoop to make the score 66-60, but Dampier responded with a short jumper and Finley hit from 20 feet to get the lead back to 10 points.

The end of the quarter belonged to Nowitzki, who hit a straightaway 3, made a steal and finished a break with a dunk to give Dallas an 83-69 lead entering the final period.

The Mavericks led 39-37 with 4:31 left in the first half when Finley ignited an 11-3 run with a driving layup. Dallas scored on nine of its last 11 possessions of the half to build a 54-45 lead at intermission.

He scored two points. ... The Hornets unveiled their new third jerseys, which they call ``Mardi Gras gold.'' They normally wear white at home with teal numbers and purple and gold trim. Dallas wore white instead of its traditional road blue. ... Although rookie J.R. Smith was among the Hornets' scoring leaders while starting for the then-injured Wesley (right hamstring) during the preseason, Wesley got the start. Smith made his regular-season debut with 2:52 to go in the first quarter. The 19-year-old player had six points in 15 minutes
