Well, that's a pretty laid back perspective, I guess. Myself, I don't trust "eventually" on it's own, and without knowing that she and I were both looking at the dating relationship with marriage in mind, I wouldn't have known if time and money were going into something that wouldn't last. Once I did know that I wanted to be with her the rest of our lives, I didn't take any chances. I bought the diamond and we made commitments.

I did not live with her until getting married. Why rush it?

I was gonna guess you hadn't. You seem to be fixated on NOT enjoying sex.

My wife recently lost one of her diamond earrings that I bought for her several years ago while dating. Seems rather convenient, with the approaching holiday season....
I hate diamonds.

I wish I had been that smart, UL.
Jack --It has nothing to do with not enjoying sex.
It has everything to do with understanding love and what can be special. Sex does not equal love, but intimate love with that special spouse does involve sex and much more.
It took some time, but I wised up eventually.

Nothing says "Marry me! I'm $1500 poorer now!" like a diamond.

Alright a little update for you. I have decided against a necklace. I don't think she is would wear it that often. She doesn't like birthstones.. her's is garnet by the way.
I am not buying a ring, so those of you that keep brining it up can shut it. Plus when i do buy a ring, i want to do it right and drop $10K on a ring. Because i am a sucker, working for the man.
anyway....
I am thinking about a set of diamond stud earrings. I went to Tiffanys (just to look!), and that crap was way overpriced/expensive. I also went to a different jewelery store and found some stuff i liked.
I am still not sure yet, but so far the leading candidate is diamond earrings. Between .50 and .75 total weight, i believe they were set in white gold. Nothing too fancy but nice.
