Default Kurt Thomas to Seattle

http://www.azcentral.com/sports/suns...traded-CR.html

...The Suns are getting pretty crazy about this salary cap relief thing.

The whole deal is Kurt Thomas, the Suns' 2008 first round pick, the Suns' 2010 first round pick for a conditional second rounder and a trade exception.

That is absolutely insane.

IMO, that's a huge blow unless they really have a KG deal soon.

So let's see.... the Sonics now have Chris Wilcox, Nick Collison, and Kurt Thomas at PF. They have Petro, Sene, and Swift at the 5. Something's gotta give. They're not done yet.

Agreed. I don't understand what Phoenix is doing. I know some are speculating that this move is to prepare for the arrival of KG, but how exactly do you put together a desirable package for Minnesota without 1st round picks? It would have to be a three or four team deal, and if that's the case, they're treading on dangerous ground making a move like this because they are then dependent on other teams not backing out. If the other team/teams do back out and their deal falls apart, they gave up all of that for what?

I think you can trade 3-4 years in the future, just not consecutive years in the same trade or something.

I'd really love me some Collison or Wilcox, considering there's clearly not enough PT for the two of them AND Thomas.

For those keeping score at home, in the last month suns nation has gone from being the front runners for landing KG to having sold off three 1st round draft picks and given away their best option for guarding Tim Duncan. Nice offseason they have going. I'm sure Grant Hill feels really good about his decision right about now.

I don't know if I care anymore, it's hard to see an organization that is completely driven by money...

That $8M exception is interesting. Maybe the Suns are planning to go after a FA that is left on the board. Varejo?

You can't use a trade exception for a FA. I guess it can be used for a S&T, but it can't be packaged with anything else, so there would either have to be two deals, or another team S&T someone just to get a trade exception of their own. And again, since a trade exception cannot be packaged with anything else, this is useless in acquiring KG.

It must be sad to see this crap as a Suns fan. Should also make people tone down their whining about Cuban not being willing to spend enough money. I'm just utterly amazed that the Suns would do this. They basically PAID Seattle two of their next three 1st-round picks to take Kurt Thomas's contract. Wow. I hope that team has a fire sale and just keeps unloading all their players--preferably to the East.

I can see giving away Kurt Thomas, but giving two first rounders for that?

It is really delicious though after the reemergence of all the anti-Cuban crew.

Agreed. You want to give up Kurt Thomas for nothing, to save money, go right ahead. But to give up TWO first-rounders just to get someone to take him? That's really sad.

Honestly, Mavs, Spurs, Rockets and even Lakers and Jazz fans should be thrilled. With Colangelo gone, the Phoenix front office is destroying that franchise. Once Nash declines it's over for them. They'll be left with a horrible team and no future because they've traded all their picks away. As soon as Nash is done, there will be one less team in the West to have to worry about.

The Suns did it for the 8 mil exception. They are obviously not done in the free agent market. Maybe a large sign and trade. KG??? J. Oneil???? Hmmmmm....

Minnesota said the other day they have decided to stay with KG and will look to trade other pieces. So let's just end all of this KG talk shall we?

If it was going to happen it would of happened already. Expect KG in a Timberwolves uniform at the start of the season.

The deal sort of makes sense. A 8 million dollar trade exception is worth a lot more than Kurt Thomas IMO. The first round picks aren't really that valuable. The Suns usually get rid of their rookies anyway. They didn't give up ATL's pick though did they? That's the only valuable pick they have. I imagine that's going to be dealt this offseason as well.
