Mavs 109 Raptors 98
Nothing much to see here. Just the Mavs beating a team they're supposed to beat. The win in itself wasn't a big deal but some nice occurences in this game.
Terry returns, Kidd with his 10,000th assist. Bass the recipient. A fine milestone indeed for our beloved PG.
Terry didn't get many minutes or make significant impact, but it's just his first game. I expect it'll take a few before he gets regular minutes and reacquires rhythm.
Solid game for Dirk at 24/10/5. Wasn't SPECTACULAR, especially shooting from the field, but didn't have to be.
Good stuff from Singleton and Wright. GREAT stuff from SIngleton/Wright in fact. Especially Singleton with 12/16.
I've indeed been a big fan of Singleton all year, dating back to the Knicks game when he had a double double. An appreciable amount of energy and hustle, and pretty good versatility, defense, and production as well. A solid 7th-8th-9th man indeed, I would say.
Howard was alright
Defense was marginal althouhg Raptors shooting % was low. too many fouls and offensive rebounds yielded.
One minor vexation. Remember when the Mavs were actually good at shooting 3's? I kinda miss that stuff, it would add a much needed dimension to our offense.
Anywho, on to Oklahoma City tomorrow. It's probably easier now that Durant is out, but an opponent the beloved Mavs CANNOT overlook. They've actually been solid at home in their last 10 games... and they DID give us a game in Dallas on Friday after all, even after Durant was slain.
Go Mavs.

Kidd owns.
Kidd with 15 assists and 1 turnover is downright redirkulous.

Yes, that is pretty amazing. Way to go JKidd!
Singleton was amazing. He has been great for a couple of games now. I hope he keeps this up. His energy and hustle is awesome to see.
Great win Mavs!

I beg to differ.
Kidd with 10,000 assists (15 tonight and only 1 turnover like TheMaverick pointed out.. that's just filthy)
Terry is back.
Singleton is playing with an energy and effectiveness that could win games all on it's own.
Dirk is shooting with confidence and has a completely different vibe since the losing streak.
13 games over .500 for the first time this season.
There was a LOT to see tonight.

Singleton is the reason I think we'd be fine trading Howard for a SG. Singleton can hold down the 3 position.

I agree
new Howard-level SG + Singleton > Wright + Howard
__________________
edit: Actually, we're deeper at the 2 position than the 3 and that would make us paper thin at the 3 AND 5 positions since Singleton hypothetically can play both.
On top of being clogged up in the 2 spot and thin at the 3, Hollins would have to get more minutes at the 5, and we'd probably see more DG.

I dont know. If u get a pure SG like Redd then you have the overload at SG (as example Redd/Terry) and i dont wanna play Playoffs with Singleton/Wright/George at SF...

I just hope Singleton proves to be consistent when he gets enough minutes.

Arbitrary stat of the night: Mavs are 16-2 when James Singleton plays at least 15 minutes.
Kinda neat

I truly love Singleton's game. He isn't the most talented player but he definitely is one of the most hardworking players in this Mavs team. His hustle, energy and attitude is awesome to see. He may have his off nights, but generally, most of the time, when he is given enough playing time, he will give 100% of himself on the court.

Good point. If a trade for a shooting guard were to be made at the expense of losing Josh, who we might not even have to give up considering that we have Stack's and then Damp's expiring contracts, it would be important to get someone who can play the 3 as well. Singleton has been tremendous for a couple of games now, but Josh isn't bad either.
While the game itself wasn't memorable, there were some encouraging aspects: JET is thankfully back, Dirk did indeed play "solid", even though that might be an understatement considering his 24/10/5 stat line, Singleton continues to impress, Wright once again showcased the recent improvements he's made as a result of JET's absence, and Kidd delivered his 10,000th assist which, in fact, is memorable. What a sensational basketball player, even at 35. Scoring aside, he feels like the epitome of a safety net for this team.
Still, the true test comes tomorrow. We simply have to beat a Durant-less OKC and can't afford to take it easy again with not enough effort. The Thunder should still have a bad taste in their mouths after Friday's loss and be quite interested in winning this time. Time for the Mavs to play like a gutsy veteran team.

I think in regards to this Mavs team and where they're at this season it wasn't really much to see. But for specific players it was a lot to see. JET got out there and looked decent. Kidd got to 10,000 assists and Singleton continued to hustle. But as far as the Mavs goes its the same Mavs team we've seen all season.

I would've been pissed if the Mavs did that deal. Not for both Howard and Bass. I'd take on Carter and/or Butler if it was for Josh and a expiring deal. But giving them both Howard and Bass is giving them too much. Actually Nets would be fools not to take Howard and Bass for Carter.

I've noticed the great chemistry between Kidd and Singleton. In the Raptors' post game, Rick Carlisle indeed mentioned that Kidd loves to play alongside Singleton because he (Singleton) is someone that runs the floor and rebounds well. Also, Kidd said that he's one guy who can catch the ball over the rim.

There are now four players with more than 10,000 career assits:
1) John Stockton: 15,806 (10.5 APG)
2) Mark Jackson: 10,334 (8.0 APG)
3) Magic Johnson: 10,141 (11.2 APG)
4) Jason Kidd: 10,002 (9.2 APG)
BTW, TheMaverick: Josh/Bass/Stack for Carter would have been WAY too much. The Nets would have done that deal in a heartbeat and we would have sacrificed pretty much all of our trade chips for a move that seems lateral at best.

from dominic comment on Dallas Morn. News column about JJB:
(I thought it was well said)
The terrm "heart and soul" of a team is used loosely. In Jose Juan Barea's case, it isn't. This Dallas team needs a legit #2 and a better scoring center. What it doesn't lack is heart and most of that is due to the little guy from Puerto Rico. How can this team not follow this guys emotional lead? It ain't often that a team can look to a member of the team for inspiration. Dallas can and I think they'll feed off it down the stretch.

I could see us looking into Redd this off-season. Redd loved playing with Kidd in the Olympics, we need an all-star level pure shooting 2, and Milwaukee is looking to cut salary which we can help them out with (Stack).
Anyhow, great game by the Mavs last night. Kidd was dominant and Singleton played a hell of a game. Go Mavs.

I think if Singleton makes anyone expendable it is Bass, not Josh.
Congrats to Kidd on a major milestone in a great career!
Really good to see Terry back, with Utah passing us and Phoenix threatening from behind.

JET + Wright is fine at the 2. Yes, JET's a bit undersized, but we basically have no one at the 5 spot anymore as evidenced by Damp playing very little lately. Getting a legit 5 is more important than a 2.

Redd is done. Same with T-Whack. Major knee surgeries while being on the wrong side of 30. No thanks, they aren't Jason Kidd.

If only we could play cellar-dwellers every time out.
We need to see some of these positives applied in games against contenders and not the limp noodle play we have seen recently.
