[i]Timberwolves sign Kendall Gill

September 25, 2002

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Kendall Gill, a 34-year-old swingman who has played 12 seasons in the NBA, signed with the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday.

The Timberwolves also completed details of forward Gary Trent's contract. Minnesota has 13 players under contract, with center Loren Woods and second-round pick Marcus Taylor still unsigned.

Gill, 6-foot-5, played last season with the Miami Heat. He averaged 5.7 points on 38.4 percent shooting with 2.8 rebounds in 21.7 minutes.

``Kendall gives use depth at a couple of positions,'' said Kevin McHale, vice president of basketball operations. ``He is an athletic veteran player who will help us a both ends of the court.''

Gill, a 1990 first-round pick from Illinois, has averaged 14.2 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.67 steals in 814 games.

Trent re-signs with Wolves

September 25, 2002

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- The Minnsota Timberwolves re-signed free agent forward Gary Trent on Wednesday, solidifying their front line for the upcoming season.

Trent, 28, averaged 7.5 points, 4.2 rebounds and 17.8 minutes in 64 appearances last season, his first with the Wolves. He missed 18 games because of ankle and hamstring injuries.

Trent, who started 10 games last season while Joe Smith was injured, is one of Minnesota's biggest bodies. He posted a season-high 20 points with 10 rebounds on Jan. 7 against Detroit.

``Gary brings an aggressive attitude and a physical presence on the court,'' said Kevin McHale, Minnesota's vice president of basketball operations.

In his seven years in the NBA, Trent also has played for Portland, Toronto and Dallas.

Trent's signing means center Loren Woods is the last Wolves player yet to agree to a deal for next season. The Wolves have made a qualifying offer to Woods, a restricted free agent.

But the Wolves are still looking at several veteran free agents, including point guard Rod Strickland, a 14-year veteran, and forwards Kendall Gill and John Wallace.[i]
